Agreed, I think the reason the Mitsuoka looks so "off" is the combo of old-style rounded fenders with the more square, boxy windows and sharper body lines. Round and smooth the body lines, bring the rear wheel fenders up a bit, add a little roundness to the side/rear windows and chop the roof down maybe a couple inches while narrowing the windshield. The front's not entirely terrible, reminds me of Dizzy Gillespie.

Out if sight behind the cab, if it has one.

Part of me wants to say they just got lucky. (Most of me.)

Part of me thinks the cabover, with intake probably behind the cab - might have been sufficient to protect it.

At our last volvo club drag strip day we took a V8 XC90 and popped the exhaust loose at the cat and just stuck a socket in between to keep it open, it sounded freaking fantastic. A quick facebook video here from the day before we raced it: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10205649224541208

That looks like CFA during a Melbourne storm/flash flooding event.

Quick google: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/ipad/cfa-truck-filmed-defying-ses-advice-by-driving-through-floodwaters/story-fn6bfkm6-1226232676744

quote:

THE CFA has launched an investigation after footage emerged showing a tanker nearly submerged as it ploughed through Christmas Day floods.

The CFA has not ruled out a punishment for the three-man crew after the footage raised questions about the fire authority's safety procedures.

The video footage, shot by a bystander, shows a Research CFA crew ignoring the State Emergency Service's advice not to drive through floodwaters.

The vehicle motors through an Eltham street before slowly disappearing beneath the murky waters, with bystanders crying out in amazement.

Two firefighters then appear at the back of the vehicle, while the cabin is flooded with at least two firefighters inside.

When the truck re-emerges, water and debris spill from the cabin doors.

That makes sense now. Ballsy by them, but pretty loving dumb.

I once drove my '71 Nova through water nearly that deep at a similar intersection. It started to float when the water got up to the sills -- engine revs spiked, the back end started to drift with the current -- luckily I had gone in fast enough that the momentum carried me to the opposite shore.

Is there a single original body panel on that? Maybe the doors and A-pillar, I guess. The Mercury version used the original roofline, for better or for worse.
