My dad is super into those kinds of cars that run on a a fuel mix with a tiny 2 stroke cylinder. Little remote control car that can do 50-60 MPH. This has resulted in more than one remote control car exploding into a shower of plastic and metal pieces when it hits something, but I think he likes the repairing as much as he does the driving.

I like the nitro ones too but the engines are temperamental little bitches sometimes and relatively recent advances in lipo batteries and brushless motors make electric faster, more reliable, and cost less money over time. Also, you don't piss off all your neighbors with the screaming weedeater sound.

Those are probably all bonuses for my dad. I'm almost certain he enjoys the repairing/tinkering part in his workshop as much as he does the driving. I think a minifridge in his workshop has something to do with that but never bothered to confirm. Also he hates his neighbors.

I'm waiting on doing a 5s - 6s upgrade. I get a price drop later this month and another in six months when my contract is up. ATT keeps sending me mail about the monthly package but at shelling out $600 total for a phone and having to give it back at the end.

I'm on the main upgrade path. I'm just going to buy my 7 outright next time since they're getting rid of the 2 year contracts.

Nitro rc cars are a thing of the past IMO I do not miss r/c poo poo from the 90s at all. Terrible all around. Too bad it missed its glory days with all the current tech. I had a team associated truck that was a piece of poo poo and broke everytime I took it out A kyosho inferno 7.5 that was a beast but again never ran I just wanted something simple but still quality and somewhat durable. This 1:8 buggy electric buggy flies. I wanna say 25-35 mph. Mostly for my dog to chase though Nostalgia4Dogges fucked around with this message at 22:51 on Jan 6, 2016 |

You can't even get them at an Apple Store anymore. I bought my phone outright but my plan is cheaper now with more data.

I bought my son a Syma X11 or X11C or something off of amazon for like 30-35 dollars. Then I spent another 30 bucks on half a dozen batteries and a charger. He can fly his toy for like an hour and forty five minutes before having to recharge batteries now. The thing flies great and is fairly durable. The only con I see is that the repair parts I ordered straight from Syma ship from Singapore.

Speaking of flying craft.... Love the idea but can we maybe put the rotors up top where there's less chance they'll maim someone on landing http://paleofuture.gizmodo.com/is-this-the-autonomous-taxi-of-our-dreams-1751426309

EVA BRAUN BLOWJOBS posted:I remember Estes rocket, and these things: Same company. I'm not sure if they design/build the quadcopter or if Traxxas did (or some other company) but it turns out there's a lot of badge engineering with these things. I think the Estes version is $2 or 3 cheaper. Came with 2 batteries, a USB charger that'll charge both at the same time, and some spare blades. The blades pop off rather than break though, which so far has been a good thing. It flies for close to 10 minutes per battery. Godholio fucked around with this message at 03:45 on Jan 7, 2016 |

Estes rockets were cool as gently caress once upon a time. That passenger carrying quad copter probably needs its rotors lower than the center of gravity for flying purposes? or something like that? Whatever, it would be hilarious landing that thing in a playground.

Dad question: I'm trying a sous chef service and I have a bag of pork (cubed roast) in brine for slow cooking and pulling. The instructions say to remove the pork from the brine, rinse and pat dry, then put in the cooker on low for 9 hours. I'm wary of there being no instructions to put anything else in there with the meat. Is there enough liquid in the meat or should I go with my gut and stick a cup of water in with it before cooking?
|
# ? Jan 7, 2016 05:44 |

Follow the instructions.

Bare meat will scorch against the surface of the slow cooker. You don't need to add liquid but you should at least put a vegetable layer (like a bunch of onion slices) in between the meat and the cooker.

Zeris posted:Do you want to link the instructions also what is a "sous chef service" It's a service that you buy mostly-prepared meals from, but do the cooking yourself. In this case the sauce is already made the the meat comes sealed in brine. I think I'll drop an onion layer in since that's what some other recipes suggest. It's just weird to be instructed to put bare meat and nothing else in.

When I make carnitas I toss the dry rubbed pork in with no extra liquid...there's enough liquid in the pork that it comes out as the meat cooks and prevents any problems. Doubly so if the meat is particularly fatty (which it usually is if I'm making carnitas) since the fat will render. I usually toss some sliced onions in on top but I've done it without onions with no scorching or other issues.

EVA BRAUN BLOWJOBS posted:Sous Kitchen I don't mean to be a dick but come on man. Do you live in a food desert or something? Are you having a hard time learning to cook? I can't see any reason to use these services other than the above -- not only are you paying 150% to 200% (vs. grocery stores) for someone to chop your veggies and then mail them to you, you are also losing out on the hard-earned lessons that come with learning kitchen prep the hard way. I also don't buy the "saves me time" argument. Anyway, excuse me. I do hope the pulled pork cubes come out great and so forth. I never really understood those types of services (or heard the "sous service" label).
