I see on swappa I can get an s6 that's banned from the sprint network for unpaid bills for $250. Will this work for using with the gear vr or does it need carrier updates?

I learned this the hard way with a fly-by-night Amazon seller. Bought the card, noticed the color looked a little too saturated for Samsung, but unfortunately the alarm never went off in my head. My biggest problem was that I could mount it and transfer data, but then it would disappear from my device and the only way to get it back was to format. In hindsight I now know it was because the loving thing was an 8GB card spoofed as 128GB.

Thankfully, I didn't lose anything major, but it was quite the stupid loving ordeal. Had some major life events come up and by the time I had proof it was fake, the seller was gone.

You don't need 128gb of storage on your phone anyway.

Devil's advocate: who takes a five and a half hour long 4k video. Timelapse video? But that's a super specific case that would really be better served by an actual camera.

I think the reason most people would want a 128GB sd card is to carry around all of their chinese cartoons to watch at a moment's notice. Which I can appreciate.

No one.

But you may have an hour's worth of video over the course of a few months, 32gb of music pinned to save your data plan, a few hundred photos, a couple of large games, a movie or two pinned from Google Play or Vudu for that flight next week...

Right there, you could be hitting well over 64gb of storage. I don't give a poo poo if storage is internal or not or if phones have SD cards, but to think the only use of GBs worth of storage is torrents of pirated movies is silly.

These devices are the primary sources of entertainment, communication, and computing for many people. More storage will always be welcome and I will max out storage on any device I buy whether it be internal, external, it both.

Tangerine, available on Netflix instant, is quite a good feature-length film; it was shot entirely on an iPhone 5 (and doesn't look like it).

They do not give the slightest gently caress what you actually do with your phone (well, except for a very small amount of things, like I guess they care if you use a Google Fi sim in a non-Nexus) and no real person will ever go through the information collected on you. It's just to better target ads. Still a little :tinfoil: but I guess that's the price of living in the modern age.

Oh plenty of people at Google have very deep access to your account information, but just like with IRS employees you just have to trust them with your information.

Put all your music in the cloud! Not on a plan with unlimited streaming? Get on one! Don't live in an area where it's supported? Move to one!

There are tons of reasons one could use to justify not needing ridiculous amounts of storage. It still boils down to different people needing different things, which sane people typically understand.

What I don't get is why it's so important for the ~IYG SD CREW~ to come out of the loving woodwork every time it's brought up to let us all know how the only possible use for big SD cards is giant anime collections.

You sound just like Cremnob. Only instead of preaching the Apple gospel, it's the cloud. Ditto for RZA and his weird anti-root fetish.

I'm not on an unlimited plan but I'm on a 20GB plan on Cricket, I sync my podcasts over LTE, listen to streamed music during my commute, do a bunch of browsing and poo poo, never gone over. Honestly if you're a woodlouse who only gets 2G in the forest just say it instead of trying to come up with reasons for why Spotify is some fringe app that only people who live in the coverage-rich metro areas of the country could ever use.

I'm not saying that Spotify is some modern day form of witchcraft. If it works for you, awesome. It's definitely viable/optimal for the majority of end users, and I'm not saying otherwise. I'm only pointing out that it's not possible for everyone, so to say that the same thing should work for everyone is retarded.

Because unlike people, SD cards cannot espouse opinions and support them through dialog and reason?

I'm curious for you to define "walled garden" in this context. Honestly, iOS seems just as service agnostic as Android is in all of the ways that count and if you're referring to solely the App Store then I think there's a strong argument to be made that disallowing unapproved applications is a near necessity to providing adequate security and that the tradeoff in giving that up isn't worth the bargain for either the custodian of the platform or the user.

I was just referring to the difference in ethos between the two platforms in the general sense, not just the app stores specifically. And to your point, the tradeoff decision must be made by the custodian, but I'm I am posting on a rooted Z3C, so I obviously am ok making the decision myself. I don't go around telling people who disagree that they're objectively wrong for disagreeing, because that is dumb.

Off-topic, but that movie was awesome. I had kind of dismissed it as a gimmick since everything I read about it was from the angle of "they made a movie on a phone!!" but it turned out to be great. My favorite part was the old guy in the taxi.

Ah, I get you. Honestly, now that SD cards have the option to be handled in a safe, secure, and useful manner in Marshmallow I have a difficult time raising a dander for objecting their presence. I certainly don't want or need one but as long as they aren't harming the ecosystem (as I think one could argue they were doing at least early in Android's gestation) then it's really no harm, no foul.
