Another thing, browsing this store. I thought this whole "room system" thing was in the game and it is what it is. So why are they still preordering different upgraded hanger designs? Or is that something different?

Of course CIG is charging money for a pre-order of a digital copy of a manual giving information that any other company would release free, either as a doc thrown in the game directory or put up on Wiki. Of course they are.

Just for comparison here is the official wiki for the complex and very customisable Arma.

This is insane. I didnt even know the game promised modding, much less the idea that they would have something like modding tools available. And on top of all that, that they have been charging people for a loving manual on how to use said tools.

all that stuff has been talked about, but its spread out quite a bit.
illegal smuggling, yes.
breaching charges and trip mines/turrets (both sides of a pirate hull breach), yes

lying about value in information, yes.
obfusgating your stolen ship's ID to pass through UEE checked places, yes.
Banu seem really, really untrusting of cargo, one planet needs you to scan your inventory at the space port, before entering the planet airspace, at the dock, and all the same as you leave - some places will pay top dollar if you're able to get restricted items past these checks.
put it this way: look at the ships, if there is a ship that serves a purpose, there's going to be a mechanic around it - they wouldn't make the Herald if there wasn't very volatile information that one could steal, intercept, want kept secret, etc that you'd need the ability to wipe your drives if needed and has protections against EMPs.
or a news ship if you couldn't video monitor things.
there are ships with secret hatches and un-scanable compartments, info isn't available to everyone, it's exclusive to the finder's desire - keep info to yourself, lie about locations, have your info stolen, have your SHIP stolen, become a slave, etc.
lots of shady stuff is possible.

It's probably because that word sounds at the same time incredibly lame and incredibly stupid, so your brain expects some kind of bad SF-parody. But when you actually sit down and read what that serial killer wrote down, it turns out to be really badly written torture porn. That mental disconnect causes some kind of enraging effect in every healthy mind.

Edit:

Also when reading some of the stuff he wrote, I noticed there aren't actually any characters in it. Just nameless people getting horribly maimed. No names, no descriptions beyond "he is a crewman" or something similar inane, it's kind of disturbing.

Relevant to this, I have schizophrenia.

Beer or someone who has been following this for awhile. Do the Hanger upgrades they sell in the store have anything to do with this supposed room system that is a finished feature?

Originally the hangars represented where your ship would be stationed. There's four options; basic, business, deluxe, and asteroid. The idea was that those locations would correspond to landing zones on various planets, so someone with a deluxe hangar would have their penthouse on Terra while the dirty pirates got their asteroid base. Those are the upgrades they sell in the store, although that mostly applies to people with starter packages since the higher end ones come with upgraded hangars. The room system was supposed to complement the hangars by allowing players to pay for expand their functionality. For example there used to be a firing range that was hidden in the game code. I think it was last year that they did an ATV showing off some of the rooms they had planned. Living quarters, storage rooms, the firing range, those were examples. Players who pledged before the $44 million mark also got a stellar cartography room (a holographic map of the universe). All of this stems from the original purpose of the social module, which was to allow players to enter each other's hangars and check things out or socialize. Unfortunately that's been delayed indefinitely (probably coming after Star Marine).

It seems like this entire project wouldn't be so far behind if they'd stop trying to reinvent the wheel for literally everything. But hey, immersion!

The player doing the dragging uses both hands to pull the wounded player.
