Saga #32 was actually pretty good, almost as if the book was better at being about love in the face of weird space bullshit than it is at being misery porn. It does help that Ghüs is still being Ghüs.

Yeah, while I don't know if I'd say the series is totally back on track again or that people who dropped it should come back to it, as someone who was strongly considering dropping Saga or at least demoting it to trade waiting, this week's issue made me feel justified in keeping it on my pull list. :unsmith:

Honestly I'd love another weirder book, along the lines of Incognito/Fatale over Criminal/Fade Out.

Nope, but it involves a former supervillian who is in witness protection start to act as a hero. It is really good and there have been two series, but it ended on a cliff hanger.

It will be a Criminal one shot and another to be announced later.

Trashed by Derf Backderf is really good, quasi-fictional memoir/indictment of throw-away culture. His art style is really unique, kind of naive art that works really well for the stories he tells.

Just read this week as well, it is a fantastic graphic novel. Pick up My friend Dahmer if you haven't already, just as good. I described it to a friend as: it is to narrative comics as The Big Short is to narrative movies.

I read My Friend Dahmer a few months ago. Derf completely nails the feeling of small town Ohio (which makes sense given that's where he's from).

The Big Short explains a very complicated real world concept (2008 market crash) between a loose narrative (the people shorting the stock), Trashed explains a very complicated real world concept (the environmental foot print we all have and how we cover our trash) between a loose narrative (Derf as a garbage man)

The narrative of The Big Short is anything but "loose", especially given one of the main characters is explicitly a narrator and characters routinely break the fourth wall to explain how the movie's plot is changing things from what really happened.

Seriously read/watch both and you will get what I am saying or rather my friend was saying to me. And it's loose in the sense the the plot is driven more by explaining the crash than what the characters are thinking/feeling/doing

Oh man Phongram was great. Maybe if you didn't spend your late teens travelling up to London to visit lovely indie clubs it doesn't have quite the same punch, but if you did, oh man! I'm super sad that there's not going to be any more. Wicdiv is pretty great, but Phonogram speaks to me in a very personal way few comics ever have.

Phonogram volume 3 didn't speak to me as much as Volume 2 did but I still enjoyed it and I appreciated the issue we got that focused on the volume 2 characters.

It was really good but I still want an Fully Annotated Version because I feel like I'm missing so, so much by virtue of half the plot being encrypted in band names.

There's a glossary of band names, song names, album titles, etc. at the back of every issue, which is the only thing that has allowed me to make sense of most of it.

Prophet: Earth War comes out this week. Also Island and Monstress.

Did anyone else read Amazing Forest? It's another SF/F anthology and it was pretty good. However all the issues are already available digitally for $0.99. I don't know if readers will think it's worth it to get physical copies, even if the series is good. Maybe I'll wait for a collection.

I loved Prophet, but after a while I eventually stopped reading it because I just couldn't follow it month to month. It was great, insane space weirdness, but I had no idea what the gently caress was actually happening.

Then I saw everyone talking about Earth War and thought it'd be worth rereading in collection, looked at my comixology account and realised the last issue I bought was 44, one before the final.

So, rereading it now. Just finished the first arc and holy poo poo it's even better than I remembered. Plus it helps that now I've got an idea of what's going on from reading it before. It's definitely worth going back to a second time.

This has been a PSA about why you should be reading (or re-reading) Prophet.
