That ship has probably sailed, people have decided it's bad, even if they made it a point and click game like WT arcade.

I think there best bet is to offer heaps of gold / premium which is shared with WoT / WoWS so people are logging in for a few hours on weekends. Also trying to make the game not suck would help.

Use it as a way to launder tanks gold/freexp into ships and I'd play it.

From what they originally said, WoWP was the game they thought would curb the North American audience. Rest assured if it had caught on we'd have 'gold' in WoT, 'doubloons' in WoWS, and probably 'wings' in WoWP, with the same promise that they'd ~eventually~ unify the currency.

As it stands, I don't know why they don't allow you to convert gold from WoT/WoWS in a 'one-way' method until then.

Because evidently the stereotype in Belarus was that Americans are 'plane crazy.' WoWS was aimed at the European (specifically British) and Asian markets, while WoT was obviously originally developed for the Russian/Slavic audience.

EDIT: Oh, and I'm basing this off the time I heard The Chieftain actually say it at the only DC 'meet' I bothered going to. Shortly thereafter they stopped comping the booze and food.

yea the only thing war thunder has going against it is that gaijin is a hilariously incompetent developer and the grind for mid-high tier planes is turbo-korean. that said, it's still a serviceable plane shooty game, unlike wowp which is a terrible dumpster fire.

Warplanes was quite good for me until right before they handed out the gold bribery payout where they hosed the controls to hell. I had a video posted flying around in the Soviet acrobatic fighter absolutely shredding others to poo poo while performing barnstormer tricks sometimes. It was really fun, then one day they decided to make it un-fun and hosed the game forever. After the show we got our gold, realized it became a virtually uncontrollable brick to fly nearly anything and the majority of people I know quit and went back to tanks. Leave it to a game developer to make a game less appealing to everyone.

Pretty much that and the released after making it basically literally impossible to successfully fight against energy fighters so going up against the wrong people would mean you lose, period.

It's a pity because it had an actually manageable camera for joystick players with the picture in picture, and didn't do that nauseating bullshit where the camera lags in turns, so I could aim and also play without getting physically loving sick. Also a damage model where calculated risk could exist, rather than occasionally losing wings to golden BBs or not being able to make shots stick.

Well there was the whole thing where your guns became so massively inaccurate while firing in a climb that trying to shoot a plane diving on you was basically impossible and a death sentence.

I don't remember that. I remember something like you getting better accuracy in a dive and having higher bloom while climbing. Which meant you couldn't just pitch up to deal with the energy fighter leaving the scene.

Yep. Also it was world of Bf 110s, the initial boost being over a minute let them climb even higher, which was totally nuts.

And that's how you get good players doing poo poo like this:

I mean, the idea of that is by pushing out your range across the board, planes get into your really powerful close range auras faster. Pretty much all ships have very high close range auras, decent mid range auras and low damage long range. The more time they spend in that close one the better.

That said, tier 9/10 CVs have an absurd number of planes.

getting to ranked 10 was quite a slog. 10>5 sounds frustrating and 5>1 sounds positively painful but each rank nets you tons and tons of flags. And i want that pirate flag......

i wonder say, if you:
-have a 60% winrate in ranked,
-and each win nets you a star and each loss takes away a star,
-and attaining each rank gives you a free star that needs to be taken away first, before being demoted to previous rank,
-and ranks to 15 have two stars needed, ranks from 15 to 5 have three stars needed, and 5 to 1 have four stars needed,
-how long it will take in terms of numbers of ranked battles, on average, in order to reach rank 1. Maths, argh

I'd check to see if your alt key is sticking. I believe alt+enter will toggle between full screen and windowed mode.

It's gonna depend on your exact loss pattern but on average you'll need 5 games to net one star. Given I dunno, 12 minutes average game length that's 60 minutes a star. Knock off one star per rank for the free one you get and from 10-1 should be like 25ish hours of gameplay, or 125 battles.

Having fun in the Pheonix, although wondering if I should be using HE or AP on battleships at max range? I was thinking plunging fire may punch through, but it seems not to very much. With the 6" guns even at max range do you guys normally use HE against armored targets?

You might pen the superstructure but you better try to set BBs on fire. Use HE. Two ships with 6" guns you want to use AP against BB are Konigsberg and Nurnberg. Their HE shells are crappy while AP is better then IJN and USN shells. And in my experience Konigsberg is better at penning with AP. I think its because it meets lower tier ships.

Yes I citadeled Wyoming once as well. Konigsberg AP is very good compared to opposition it meets. I am shooting AP even at DDs. I let them angle and then shells wont overpen. When it works I practically kill them in a volley.

On average if you're shooting the shells at the right angles, HE and AP will do about the same overall with 155mms, barring citadel hits (go for those!). Of course, HE is more favorable for IJN, due to higher fire chance and better HE damage, HE tends to be more favorable for US due to their subpar ballistics, though AP is definitely the superior choice due to better penetration power at close range, and germans prefer AP, as their HE has much reduced damage compared to AP.

But this is just "in general" advice, almost always you'll be able to figure out what the best choice is in a given situation. Will my shells bounce or hit superstructure? HE. Will my shells meet armor consistently? AP. Even against BBs. Just don't aim at the armor belt, you'll get pens. A bit above the waterline against the guns if you can, and if you're still not penning the armor, go for the bow/stern, since you're probably shooting a US BB with their beefed up citadel armor. Or a Tirpitz, but there's a lot of other things happening at T8, and you should be able to know how to do sick deeps at this point anyways

First win most likely, and you capped a base which is a load of XP. Assuming the Hatsuharu kill was majority if not all damage dealt, its not terribly out of line for such a small match. The 22 plane kills made up a good chunk of XP too. IIRC, 40 plane kills grants equivalent rewards to killing that same tier CV, so you made up half of that.

If that wasn't first win... well I'd be completely baffled.

I could see about uploading a game, maybe. I'm running mostly standard stuff, accuracy mod, steering gears, etc. I have the concealment mod, and I'm using a level 16 commander, my DD captain. He's got Concealment Expert along with some... not optimal skills for a CA, but Last Stand still somehow saves my rear end sometimes and Superintendent gives me more repair charges to blow through, which is nice. Make sure you have premium everything (except for plane, cuz that's useless). Take Hydroacoustic Search, swap to Defensive Fire if you see CVs in queue (like, more than 2). Be sure to run the Detonation flag to avoid an embarrassing loss.

Because I just finished a match, without Premium, first win, or flags and got this.

Had some assistance with the Shimakaze, but the Fubuki and Gearing kills were almost entirely by me.

Match started with me coming around the island at A on North to find all three there, and the Fubuki and Gearing within 7 km. Managed to almost entirely dodge the opening torpedo salvo from all three, bar one torpedo, and while the Gearing wrecked me with gunfire, I wrecked him harder, then killed the Fubuki. Ended that encounter with ~6500 hp, and spent the rest of the match picketing and hunting down the Shimakaze. Managed to kill him about 2 seconds before I burned to death, after multiple salvos of his in a row caused fires.

Right, that pretty close to what I'm doing, except I got both the torp detection skill and the torp detection module because all the DD's was driving me nuts and I didn't figure detection range reduction would be all that useful, again because all the DD's and because you get spotted as soon as you fire anyway. But now that I think about it, it might come in handy, especially paired with the detection skill too.

Thanks for the tips!

Concealment Expert + camo brings you down to 9.1km detection range. You can literally stealth torp in the Atago with that setup, and at 9km you'll wreck DDs with your opening salvo. A Mogami with Concealment Expert is also a phenominal idea, since it puts out a lot more shells (with the 155s), making it much deadlier to DDs than an Atago. But on the flip side, the Atago gets repair party and the 203s can pose a serious threat to CAs. If you have the option of both, you can always take which you'd feel would perform better. Lots of DDs and BBs in queue, but few enemy CAs? Mogami, for the bigger DD threat and HE spam against BBs. CAs starting to show up? Might be time to swap to the Atago.

The impossible happening and CAs all over the place? You'd be better off picking a Hipper or going BB. CVs? New Orleans, baybiiiii
but we all know CAs in ranked aren't popular, and CVs are virtually nonexistent.
