Yes and no.

Admittedly, the rules are not perfect. Many agree that using the Bad Karma house rules are important if you want to have a persistent warband. Even with those fixes it can be tough when you face off against wizards of greatly differing levels.

That said. The rule set is cheap, simple, and fun. It lets you use some of the giant pile of minis that every wargamer has around and the creativity in modelling that has occurred is impressive. Check out the Facebook groups to see the variety of scratch built and kit bashed stuff that people are making/using.

Of those I've seen X-Wing (Huge) seen Star Trek get slammed, heard of Wings of War anecdotally and assumed it came under "niche historical", and have never heard of the latter. So, I think the dogfighting games bit of the market is relatively uncluttered.

Wings of War is the ancestor of X-Wing and Attack Wing.

Also I made a mistake earlier, Wings of War is not getting new releases, Wings of Glory is, but Wings of Glory is essentially the same game revived at a new publisher after the original went bust.

GW doesn't produce solid, fun games with really good miniatures though. Even if you're being charitable and assume they had a change of heart due to AoS flopping, they still wrote lovely, unbalanced rules for the new Start Collecting boxes for their cash cow, 40k. That was only a few weeks ago.

Likewise, they've been claiming they're a "model company" for years, but their models look like poo poo.

The Specialist Games department is a new thing within Forgeworld. My understanding is that Horus Heresy has basically as good rules as possible when building from the base of 40k.

I dunno, I think it's worth waiting to see how their first thing works out.

I feel like the specialist games reboot was already in the works when AoS got released, but the flop of that soggy turd in the punchbowl probably accelerated whatever release timeline they're trying to work with. Also, lol at GW for even thinking about trying to compete with X-Wing.

Let's do the space-time warp again!

GW could buck all apparent trends and put out a good game with reasonably priced miniatures for AI and it would still get crushed by X-wing because everyone in the loving world loves Star Wars and their franchise products are in every store. Even if AI is great you are going to be selling it to nerds online or people rolling through the local game store. Meanwhile I have seen X-wing on sale at Barnes and Noble and CVS. They could probably lose the entire miniature gamer demographic to GW and still be killing it on sales.

That's not what I'd heard; my understanding was that 30k managed to be balanced only because you're playing marines vs marines. Aside from 30k, everything I've heard about Forge World's rules is that they're actually less balanced than GW proper. But then I haven't played 30k (marines vs marines games aren't that interesting to me).

Who loving cares? GW stopped doing Specialist Games because they didn't sell as well as 40k, and they were roundly derided in this very thread for that stupid decision. Now they're bringing Specialist Games back and y'all respond with "morons, it's not going to sell as well as Star Wars"

Because instead of leading off with any one of a half dozen beloved but abandoned games their first offering is a rehash of a game that didn't even make a blip on anyone's radar the first time it came out, you moron.

The tail is actually legs, rather than being a true tail, i.e. an extension of the spine.

I have absolutely no idea how that works anatomically, but if you look at it as a costume, which it basically is, it's a weird pair of socks rather than a weird skirt.

The rumor is specifically that AI is first. My guess would be that AI is a smaller project than the Blood Bowl redo, since the claim is it's a board game like Calth (or Dreadfleet, lol) and not a full-fledged skirmish game like Blood Bowl likely is.

It's a tail that begins where her thighs should. I mean, I know she moves by slithering and stuff, just the tail begins where legs should, instead of continuing at the base of her spine where an actual tail would be. It's also true of the spider girl, who has the lower abdomen of a spider where her legs should be.

(I'm fully aware the real reason for this is "We have to give our anime monster person a butt" and not that they're seriously implying that tails actually extend from the hips, but that's the net effect of how they've drawn it).

The spider girl is awful. she has pedipalps where human legs would be, and an rear end. So it's like she's just sitting on the spiderpart. Rachne has the worst design.

I also don't like her as a character. She doesn't respect the other character's boundaries at all. I don't understand why she's such a fanfavorite.

god dammit it's slaanesh, two as, one e, pronounced like slah -nesh, if you say "slah neeeesh" you are literally hitler

Also this was over 150 posts ago but, the 10% vs 15% numbers for "how much of GW was Fantasy" are all estimates, and badly out of date ones.

Basically back in 2012 when GW was pursuing its most infamous of its long line of infamous lawsuits, an executive was testifying about something or other and happened to mention a figure which nerds then did a lot of handwavy math on and came up with some kind of estimate of how much of GW's revenues were Fantasy. That figure was given under oath, but it was not a financial statement, probably represented an approximation from multiple previous years, and in any case is now very out of date.

The reality is that GW does not report a breakdown of its revenues from each line of games/minis/etc. At best it has in previous years broken out revenues from paint, but only because it wanted to brag about how much money the new paint line had brought in. Nobody outside the board room actually knows for a fact how much Fantasy represented or how much Age of Sigmar now represents, and anyone who claims otherwise is confused or lying.

Also also, take a number, reduce it by 15%, and then increase the result by 15%. Is your final number equal to your original number? no, no it isn't, yet people are very lazy about how they're phrasing drops vs. increases vs. percentages of revenues.
