Have we talked about Bayghazi? Gawker had a nice write-up on it:quote:Even the slain ambassador, Chris Stevens, is given pretty short shrift. He comes to Benghazi with a pretty face and high ideals—a “true believer.” He gives the annex a corny pep talk about bringing Democratic values to Libya, while a warrior nods off in the background. He’s a victim and we mourn his passing, sure, but he just doesn’t get it. As proof of his vanity, his consular residence contains a framed picture of himself being interviewed on TV. We see it shortly before he is killed. http://gawker.com/i-watched-michael-bays-benghazi-movie-at-cowboys-stadiu-1753238965 The writer interviews a bunch of people, and many of them are at Hillary, presumably for edit: Also, apparently there's zero mention of either Obama or Killary throughout the entire movie. Somewhat surprising.

Isn't one of the 4 prisoners being released the American pastor that the right wing evangelical conservatives been clamoring about to be released? The one that they complained about because we made the deal and he was still prisoner? If so, I wonder what their response will be. Probably ignore Obama's administration involvement completely or to complain about how he should have been released a log time ago.

I think Iran have just discovered a weapon more powerful than a million nukes, one guaranteed to cause half the US to poo poo it self. And that weapon is.....helping Obama's government with little things. Think about it. Declare a fatwah or incite an angry mob to burn a US flag, no one gives a poo poo. Do something HELPFUL to the US, and the right wing froth at the mouth hating the US GOVERNMENT. Watch Iran do some more little gestures over the next few months.

This is either diplomacy working as it should or an intolerable capitulation of American power, depending on your point of view.

Re: medical work weeks: I noticed that there appears to be a wide difference in the criteria american MD use to select their specialization compared to old socialist Netherlands. Too me, it looks like the salary prospects are more important in the USA. For instance, its relatively easy to get into pediatrics and neonatology in the USA because the pay is bad. Whereas in the Netherlands pediatrics is one of the most competitive field to get in to because everyone wants to cure sick kids, even though they pay is relatively bad as well. Dermatology is a similar story, its not a flashy specialty so its easy to get into in Europe eventhough they make great money with reasonable hours. In boston getting into Dermatology was seen as one of the highest achievable goals considering the money you would be making. My speculation is that this in too a great extend due to college debts: American friends that just got their MD (At harvard at least) routinely have 200.000 dollar debts. I finished my MD with only 15.000 euro debt and that is without having any side job and no financial support from others.

Who was the guy earlier in thus thread who was handwaving away wallstreet/financial immorality as "bad business decisions" and couching everything in term of vaguely abstracted economics terms? Cause that kinda person is the problem that the American left has to ~really~ contend with: someone smart enough to craft a clever, exclusive, technocratic discourse and couch everything on her/his terms within this discourse. This is one of the faults of Marxism, IMO. It engages wealthy capitalists and neo-liberals on the terms they want, in the language they dominate, in a way where only t hey have the keys to A)understanding the problems and B) fixing them. If any inequity, violence, or predatory practice is simply, "Oh we had bad models" or "We made mistakes and poor business decisions" aparati of power and nexuses of power don't get challenged. Instead, they are couched in the ever more milqtoast and amoral terms of business and economics. "Oh we didn't mean to pile Grade A dog poo poo into mortgage backed securities, or hawk preditor loand to the most vulnerable in American soceity; just ~business ~ you see." Bullshit, they knew what they were doing would hurt people. That they either blinded themselves to that reality or just refused to analyze the actual human toll their decisions would make. Neither of those options removes their culpability in my eyes. BaurusJA fucked around with this message at 17:59 on Jan 16, 2016 |

In other news, In order to address the public health crisis in Flint, every Flint child under 6 years of age -- 8,657 children, based on an analysis of Census data -- should be considered exposed to lead. I can't imagine being the parent of a child in Flint right now and not wanting Snyder and the tinpot "Emergency Managers" running things all stacked on a pike. The utter indifference at best (and active malice at worst) shown to the citizens of Flint by basically stripping away their civil right to self-government and human right to clean drinking water is jaw-dropping. All done to further crush public-sector unions and save a few bucks, because the mental development of thousands of children apparently isn't worth a hundred dollars a day.
