I think Bernie did poorly during the first half but woke up during the Wall Street parts. Basically the same performance as every other debate. I'd say that's bad for him, yet his poll numbers keep going up.

I thought Bernie did quite well to articulate how a Hillary Clinton White House would not change much on Wall Street enforcement. But I thought he fell down on that question about the VT single payer plan. He should have been prepared for that. It was an opportunity to explain how his healthcare plan makes sense, even if it raises taxes, but he totally faceplanted on it.

I think the entire idea of what is and isn't effective during these debates and the campaigning process in general is really being thrown into question this election cycle. Does traditional political thought outside of "populism can work" really account for the success that both Sanders and Trump have found? It doesn't seem to me like these debates really matter at all, unless something particularly extreme or soundbyte-worthy happens.

Bernie does better with focus groups since even though Clinton is a more polished debater, she can't sell real heart or authenticity on the issues like Bernie. Her pitch is basically business as usual, while Bernie has really vision and gusty policy proposals. Hillary is a basically a old tired out company that doesn't have vision, strategy or attract people enthusiastic about the core message. She also has no brand image of her own, she talked so much about Obama did this and Obama did that. What did you do Hillary, what decisions and policy are you accountable for in government besides the Libyan foreign policy train wreck?
