Thank you for this. The first track is actually not too bad, though the rest have so far been too generic for my tastes! I've also gone on to listen to the new CD(s) - Songs from the North - and that's catching my ear somewhat. I like the whole 'Deliverance'/'Damnation' vibe they got going. Will keep at it!

There's some power metal bands with really good bass. Hibria and Light Bringer are the first that come to mind.

Rhapsody loving suck though, just listen to early Dark Moor instead if you want something like them with actual riffs rather than just gallop rhythms and keyboard doodling.

Personally I prefer Fairyland or Ancient Bards but that's mostly because a) Fabio's voice annoys the hell out of me and Elisa and Sara are both pretty good and b) I probably actually like Rhapsody but admitting it would make me seem like a hypocrite so I just like bands that are off-brand Rhapsody instead.

Italy is one of the countries I trust least for power metal but they did put out some cool bands near the start of the 2000s that don't sound like pure Rhapsody clones. Landguard are especially cool and pretty undeservedly obscure.

Vocals which are in tune are incredibly overrated :colbert:

Also the instrumental portion of the song does legitimately kick rear end.

Would recommend for fans of Xerath, Devin Townsend, Neurotech, Samael and Sybreed. I like this stuff. It's like ... progressive sci-fi, industrial symphonic metal. Or whatever.

I'll try Vortech. Industrial music is my main jam but lately I've been listening to all this groovy industrial-synth metal stuff. Love science fiction. Love planets on album covers. And after reading about Mechina in this thread I burned through most of their catalogue during a long drive. It's good.

Edit: The Encyclopedia Metallum recommends Shade Empire. I like the epic, movie-like sound to them.

I'm glad you quoted this again because I guess I missed it when it was first posted. I'm really digging this too, it's very Devin Townsend/Xerath for sure only with way more over the top synths and effects. I can't say I'd listen to this everyday ( just like I can't listen to Devin Townsend every day, the layers :psypop: ) but it's really hitting that futurespaceindustrial kind of itch.

Doesn't singapore have quite a few cool grind and war metal type bands? Like you've got Wormrot and Impiety and I'm guessing a local scene that has more than that.

Yeah, there's definitely some good stuff here. The trouble is more that a lot of the bands don't seem to play very often, or if they do they're not mentioning it on their Facebook pages. Also I'm very lazy; too lazy to go poring over a dozen Facebook pages and Twitter feeds to see who's playing and when (but able to sit on my rear end reading this thread :v:).

Anyway, thanks for mentioning Wormrot. I hadn't heard them before. While we're on the subject of Singapore bands, there's also the (all female) Tormentress and (Indian mythology-themed) Rudra.

The auto-tune vocals are pretty bad but I liked the rest of it enough to check out the previous album Acheron which to me is like a "serious" Z/Z2 concept album/story level complete with female vocals ( that are partially auto-tuned I think - but at least no auto-tuned dude cleans ).

Listening to the whole album I really get a sense that I'm listening to a space story/concept album with "story" samples, guitars and a fuckload of synths. I like DTP but I mean, there are so many synths and so many layers sometimes it's hard to even focus and it's kind of the same with this.
