This is killing me, would cost me $400 to fly to Calgary to see M83, the closest show (plus ticket for the show, plus hotel, etc). I don't understand why they aren't playing in Vancouver :( or even Seattle which I can drive to

Good job looking out for other concert bros.

I almost always hit the box office for shows, but there is one I probably have to go through ticketmaster to get and it's a loving nightmare. Insane fees and not being able to pick seats. Best seats being held for "premium" buyers and us peasants have to keep hitting refresh in hopes you won't be in a corner or behind a pole.

Just picked up Plum Green's latest EP, Karma. Reminds me of a slightly more delicate-voiced PJ Harvey.

Alright. I'm all for it, though I'd be more excited if they hadn't done those few shows in 2012 — Cedric's throat is not what it was 15 years ago.

Iggy Pop and Josh Homme made an album. It's out on March 18th!

"The nine-track Post Pop Depression was recorded at Homme's home studio in Joshua Tree, as well as his Burbank space called Pink Duck. Their backing band included Dean Fertita of QOTSA and Dead Weather on guitar and keyboards, and Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders; those two will join Pop and Homme on tour, along with Troy Van Leeuwen on guitar and Matt Sweeney on bass."

edit: They're debuting a song on Colbert tonight.

I went to see U2 in 2000 and PJ Harvey was to be the opener. She got sick and instead we got Nelly Furtado. I still haven't forgiven the universe for that one.

what's up with DIIV? I kinda liked a few songs on that debut, but they somehow seem really, really popular for a generic shoegaze-ish band. They're a band that I can sort of appreciate but am baffled by their popularity, like Beach House (though even Beach House has more of a pop sensibility)

I met the DIIV guy when he was still in Beach Fossils and came into a bar after they performed at my University's mini music fest. He was bitching about having to drink beer because that bar was another venue and only had a beer license, no liquor. The Beach Fossils front man had to talk him into it saying "this is a good tasting beer you'll like it fine". I chatted up the Beach Fossil's guy a bit and he was nice.

That's my DIIV/Beach Fossils story.

what do y'all think of Lapsley? I first heard about her today and it turned out she's playing a show here in May so I picked up a ticket. She kinda sounds like what I wanted Adele to be, and has an album coming out in March that I think'll be real good if the singles are any indication

Interesting that her early albums got rereleased on vinyl but apparently that label mistreated and conts to mistreat her so I'll be passing.

Lapsley live is rad. She does a lot of pitch shifting and looping. I saw her after only hearing a couple of songs and totally thought it was a male and female singer until live when she sang both parts. Really cool.

awesome, looking forward to that show!

The Range is coming out with a new album in March that should be good, if the first single is any indication: https://soundcloud.com/therangemusic/florida/

I've actually seen him play a couple surprise opening DJ sets recently (once for AG Cook/Danny L Harle and once for CHVRCHES) and it reminded me how great his last album was:

Ratatat was great last night. Laser/video show was excellent, and the set ended with Abrasive -> Neckbrace -> Wildcat -> Nightclub Amnesia -> Seventeen Years, so things got wild. Really impressed with their musicianship, they jumped from guitar to keys to melodica without pause. I especially liked the chopped-and-screwed Predator clips in the background during Party With Children. I'd recommend seeing them, though it looks like they play the same set every night so there's not too much tour variation.
