Holy poo poo with my green dice luck recently I'm seriously considering just selling up and playing Armada (or just playing 2x pancake builds for ever). Both games last night Soontir got a crit on the first attack. First game, range 3 mangler through asteroid at tokened up soontir, 3 hits vs 5 blanks. Second game, I spent my focus on attack, as the only incoming shot was a range 3 tie, thought Autothrusters and evade token could handle it. 2 hits vs 5 eyeballs (PS0 crit)

At least my Soontir or Palpatine escalation list building dilemma is solved.

Loving Omega ace though.

Went 2-0 in my first ever league last night against a guy running K-Wings with TLTs and bombs (not the best list, I know). I was Imp; first game 2x Bounty Hunter and a Doomshuttle, I stripped the shields on both of his K-Wings on the first pass due to some lucky die rolling and Vader and was able to focus down Miranda to prevent regen schenigans. Second game I swapped the Firesprays for Soontir and Carnor Jax, he kept the same list, and even though Jax lost SD on the first pass (rolled 5 blanks with an evade token against 2 hits from TLT), I was able to stay out of arc with Soontir all game until the end when I flew through an asteroid intentionally and took a damage to setup a Range 1 kill shot.

I really need to invest in a Raider to get the Palpmobile going; saw no fewer than 3 guys running that last night; would have saved Jax in the second game for sure and made much shorter work of things.

The gunboat looks like it's related to the Lambda. If the shuttle doesn't read as Imperial to you, the others won't either. The Imperial aesthetic is supposed to be all angles and hard edges, and it has those things.

I don't like the Missile Boat, because I think that fighter-to-fighter homing weapons are inherently Not Star Wars, but that has nothing to do with how it looks.

And Gunner. Gunner is pretty key to buzzsaw builds like this, because you just DGAF if you miss, twice. It;s particularly important on the Shuttle because it doesn't have a 360 Primary, so you have to have the ace in arc in order to doom him, so you want to make the most of that.

But the gunboat is fighter sized, right, about as big as a Punisher. Making it the odd man out for fighters.

The lambda is much more a transport than a fighter or bomber, and established in screen canon.

The Firespray is not an "Imperial" Ship. It's a ship that belonged to a mercenary who contracted with the Empire that as far as screen canon is a unique one-off. If they'd done the S&V faction out the gate, I don't even think it ever would have been lumped into the imperial faction.

The Decimator doesn't share the aesthetic of fighters, because it's a baby capital ship, so it has a hybrid aesthetic where it does the wedge thing, but also the hexagonal front viewport.

Honestly I really like the fact that there is a clear design aesthetic going on with some of the EU around who designed what ships and why, but the Gunboat and Missile Boat so clearly echo the Lambda that I wouldn't have a problem with them from a visual perspective.

The fact that they're almost entirely superfluous from a tactical perspective OTOH...

I was expecting stressbots and TLTs (in the form of YWing swarms), so I wanted my shuttle to move first, block them, and force through damage with APL. Then with PS4 during combat, I could shoot first and Vader on their PS2 Y-Wings/PS1 Ties.

Gonna nerd it up here, the Gunboat is not made by the companies that make the TIEs, so the design aesthetic is different. It was the Empire's request for a ship that has shields, hyperspace, and can carry warheads to deal with the more durable Rebel ships. It escalated to the Missile Boat because the Imps want results to deal with a now more serious Rebel threat.

TIE Defenders, Advanced, and Avengers were Sienar's answer to be "Hey! Buy our fighters and not Cygnus!" Problem for all these ships is their expense: very costly and obviously reserved for special units and for a Moffs that steal from the Empire kitty.
