Nah BiggerBoat posted:I was thinking about this the other day watching "Decades". It's a show where they go back and replay the news stories and footage of the current date and highlight things that were going in past years. Well it is just like how people love to talk about random spikes in violent crime despite violent crime being at historic lows. In NYC some people were flipping their poo poo about how violent the city was getting despite the city being on a multi-year downward trend in violent crime. And of course, it was poo poo like the NY Post and other similar outlets that were feeding the narrative that the city was growing more dangerous. It reminded me of rather a lot of Christians.

Conflating an entire genre of music with a political ideology is a gigantic stretch at best and while there have been some interesting posts about cultural identity relating to country music the good majority of it has been idiots discussing the artistic merit of good music vs bad music within the genre which has been little more than a hurr hurr "hip hop vs rap" style internet discussion with no relation to politics.

No less than half of the people that I KNOW vote democrat 100% eat up the NY Post anti-Deblasio hype. It is probably more than half. Living here is really why I love seeing how conservatives try desperately to paint dems and liberals as some singular amorphous blob. NY democrats are pretty goddamned conservative when it comes down to it. I know very few definitively left leaning NYers (and only a few more strict conservatives), compared to the vast majority of moderate conservatives and centrists who don't realize where they fall on the political spectrum because they vote D. They love to laugh at Republicans but constantly complain about taxes, "thugs", Deblasio, welfare queens, etc. ToastyPotato fucked around with this message at 21:04 on Jan 25, 2016 |

I missed countrychat but this is a great modern country song IMHO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ub9jYLcb0Y There's good music in every genre. Radio just gravitates towards the most banal and generic. Disregarding country as a genre because of Florida Georgia Line and Eric Church is like disregarding rock as a genre because of Mumford & Sons and Nickleback. Way too many people of all religions treat it as a gang affiliation rather than a positive, guiding philosophy on life. Not sure if this guy counts as country or not (more folk/blues) but William Elliott Whitmore is pretty good. http://youtu.be/C9axGUdvV2c Not too many country songs have "he don't need no water, let the motherfucker burn" in the lyrics sheet.

Just this post and that's it: Growing up in the 70's I spent a lot of time in the car with my mother. Back then, Country & Western music was real country music, and it's all she listened to. I didn't care for it, but I know how it sounds. Now, I sometimes find myself in someone's car listening to the "Country" FM station and I can say with total certainty that it is not country music. It's Rock'n'Roll music with a violin and or mandolin thrown into the instrumentation, and a rural poo poo-kickin' singer with a southern twang singing about getting a beer, gettin' down with country attitude, and general being the real America. I still don't care for it (actually I find it extremely distasteful now, but I'm an old), but I know rock when I hear it. That's rock music.

Maybe The DA seems to be pretty apologetic about the whole thing, but maybe its just a front? I mean last year it seemed like a DA could spike anything and get away with blaming it on a GJ. I have to assume there's some reason the GJ got away from him in an EXTREME manner or they actually did orchestrate this turnaround. Or maybe the whole thing was egregious enough that there was no denying....but still, if the DA wants it dead at any time I thought they had the power to do so, practically, if not ethically. I'm leaning towards the DA being sincerely sorry but I really want to know exactly how this conclusion came along because god daaaaamn.
