This reminds me, this weekend I was clearing out the hole I'm infesting with my two PI-Parasites and I had this hilarious problem of Asian and Russian people moving ships (including caps) through. Since I'm not retarded, I never even got close to being caught, but whoever was part of that silent movement/conflict in the background kept rolling the holes I kept probing down to move out my PI-goods.

It was kind of funny, but after the second time one of my parasites was accidentally evicted because of a collapsing hole, I had to put everything on hold.

Today I logged in again and finished clearing out the hole in blissful peace. Now I can savely ignore those two characters again for 1+ months while the planets slowly fill up again. :v:

He's doing Planetary Interaction inside a wormhole. Unlike moongoo (where the POS owner is the only one who can extract goo), nobody has exclusive rights to a planet in PI, but yields go down as more people use a planet, and resources regenerate at a fixed slow rate. So, it's profitable to find a planet that nobody else is using; you can quickly strip it of everything not nailed down, at absolute max yield, and then leave it to regenerate over several weeks of zero activity.

You can basically only do this in WHs, though, since every planet within 10 jumps of a civilized area will be in heavy use. You should see the planets in JU-, they're pretty much permanently barren and shagged out from being used by 10,000 guys every weekend, just like your mom.

The rest of it is him dodging angry renters who may be offended at his blatant theft of "their" planets.

That only worked when you were bringing in ten new people every single day and had more newbies than anyone could handle, and needed to get them indoctrinated as quickly as possible. It makes less sense for today's Eve and today's GSF.

e: And also, not all squads were equally good. If you were a newbie and got into Theta or Rho, you were gonna have a good time, nearly guaranteed. If you got assigned to Delta, lol rip.

I'm not so sure, the holders of those POCOS are some corp which seems inactive since forever. And most of the time, the wormhole-system they're in is deathly quiet. The POCO-owners certainly don't object to me being there, the tax has been set at a mild 10% for over a year now.

The last hole I had a parasite in was a lot more hostile, they raised the taxes up to 27% and when they still could neither catch me nor force me out, they finally closed access entirely. Back then I was still scouting around for a place to put my second PI-character in, so I just kind of shrugged, slowly emptied my colonies with normal launches and then moved everything to the wormhole I'm using today. Also since then I'm making always sure to connect everything up to my command center from the very start, so I can in an emergency just ignore POCOs completely. :v:

Kaedric posted:

Can you explain what any of this means.

Whatever it is it sounds neat.

To expand on what others have said, normally you do PI in wormholes by searching for an empty or at least really inactive hole, then you slowly replace the POCOs in there (either by Interbus or player-owned) with your own. You also put down your own tower and poo poo and essentially do what ullerm said dialed up to eleven. People who do this often run sites inside the hole, too. Normally you do this 1-2 months until you are filthy rich or too many people have noticed you being there, then you pull everything down and move on.

At least this is how someone who has done this has explained this to me, I of course have no idea how common this is, considering without local and eternal silence it's sometimes hard to see how many people are living in a wormhole.

So, this is how I not do this, since my main characters move around a lot so obviously they can't run sites and I'm too anti-social in EVE to have lots of friends, so I do "Parasites". Which is a simple method to generate some extra income with low effort and works like this:

You have at least two characters ready, both of them with scanning-skills trained to at least 3 (everything else equals huge headaches). Optimally, both characters have most or all their planetary skills trained to max, at least one of them needs to for obvious reasons. Then the character with the better scanning-skills moves around and scouts until you find a wormhole-system with the planets and the level of enemy activity you want.

Now your scout takes up permanent residence in your newly infected system, followed by your PI-character moving in, throwing down command centers and then hiding. Both your scout and your PI-character of course have a multitude of bookmarks to move around the system and evade penetrant visitors. Also both obviously need decent cloaking skills, too.

That's the basic parasite set up. Now you relax, log in once a week to make sure your colonies keep running, and once a month you make a run with your PI-character scanning the down the static wormhole leading back to K-Space, empty out your colonies, contract them to another, unrelated character and then use that one to make courier contracts to move your PI-goods to Jita.

The scout is only used when you gently caress up and get evicted because the wormhole closed behind you.

I've taken this set up and modified it a bit: Both parasites have acceptable scanning-skills, both have near-perfect planet skills and both can fly blockade runners and have the most important support skills up to at least level 3 or higher.

This way I have 12 instead of 6 colonies generating slowly money. And if one of them gets trapped outside, I use the other one to get the first one back inside.

It's a nice little side show to what I'm normally doing and it allows me to roleplay an annoying pest while getting paid for it. Of course, even though emptying out my colonies takes only a single afternoon per month, I'm lazy enough my payout is rather erratic. (Sometimes I can't even be arsed to log in to wind up my colonies, so everyone on the ground just suddenly gets a long undeserved holiday.)

Still, since nothing has happened for so long, I'm secretly planning to put another character in one of those NPC-NullSec systems where no-one is ever going and even if they come visit, they find out the locals have put their POCO-taxes to 99% or just closed them for everyone else. The sole purpose of that character will be squatting on a couple planets and slowly sending out PI-goods with unstoppable launches.

That said, if you want to make money, there are better methods to do PI. I just prefer my method, since it allows me to be a giant jackass to everyone who thinks planets "belong" to them.

Edit:

After typing up this entire improvised guide to be an rear end in a top hat with PI, I just forget the most important: This set up for the lazy only works if you use PI-Calc or your brain to think up which tier 2 goods are the best for the planets you can use beforehand. Don't do the simple poo poo with this, and don't do tier 3 or higher. With tier one stuff like Water you'd kind of defeat the point of being a lazy git and with Supercomputers and poo poo you will end up creating giant headaches for yourself, even if you somehow make this work in W-Space.

Think about it this way: PI-Parasites are about putting three times the normal amount of effort and skillpoints into PI-characters to turn them into literal ghosts you can send out to stealthily haunt W-Space, why would you then go ahead and use them like completely normal, non-ghost PI-people?
