It's Georgia so nothing's going to happen, but a state associate superintendent decided it was good idea to post racist images on his public Facebook page. The page that also identifies himself as an associate superintendent. Sadly, there will be many educators across the state who will back him up.

Re: the surprise grand jury announcement on those James O'Keefe lookalikes. An autocross friend on Facebook said something fairly astute: Those fuckers directly led to people getting shot and killed. I had completely forgotten about the dude who lit up the Colorado Springs PP back in late November because I had filed it away to "of course, it's just another attack on Planned Parenthood; it's so rote and trite." I'm hopeful that something actually comes out of it.

Levantine posted:Does he really not understand the indictment came down because PP didn't sell baby parts illegally and these shitfucks lied? Or is this just more impotent wailing on his part? Here's the thing- to people like Walsh, a large part of their positive self-image comes from the fantasy of living in a world that is full of unspeakable, pitch-black evil. This exempts them from actually having to do anything to actively and affirmatively become good, since simply saying "that thing is bad" puts them in opposition to the bad thing. The worse the thing they're condemning, then, the better they are for condemning it, and so they are all too eager to believe that the things they don't like are not merely in disagreement with them but actively evil, and the darker and more wretched, the better. To Walsh it doesn't matter what actually happened- he already derives a large part of his self-image and self-worth from hating Planned Parenthood, and so he's going to actively resist the idea that Planned Parenthood aren't worse than Hitler, since that would diminish his own goodness. Fred "Slacktivist" Clark, a liberal evangelical blogger, has a couple of posts titled "False Witnesses", about Christians who choose to believe obviously false things in order to feel good about themselves. The first post deals with the recurring and bizarre slander that Proctor and Gamble are in league with Satan, and the origins of that rumor. The second post goes into the psychology and morality of that sort of lie, and why they spread. I find them both pretty fascinating and they go a long way toward explaining why a particular sort of Christian tends to be incapable of not lying about the people they don't like.

Thanks, those blog posts were very pro click. I hate to be the "both sides do it!!" but those articles were handy not just for understanding people (like my boss ugh) who believe the Planned Parenthood Baby Parts bullshit but also a lot of the Huffpost articles I see floating around my friends' Facebook feeds that fill the same function as Fox News in stoking fires of eternal outrage. Speaking of Huffpost, there's a bizarre parallel between my father and the father of my fiancée. Both our fathers are engineers from upper middle class backgrounds but in the past decade his dad has gone bonkers on Fox News and my dad has gone bonkers on Huffpost. I suppose in times of uncertainty that kind of news fills a certain need. I think that 20 years ago their politics would have been nearly identical while now they are completely polarized. My guess is that the "for want of a nail" difference is that I suspect my dad fakes his religious faith for the sake of my mom but I'm positive that my fiance's dad is a real believer. I try to get him to stop reading Huffpost but it's like trying to talk an alcoholic into giving up the drink. Oh well, at least it ain't Fox News.

Much like the above post? I've noticed that many right wing evangelicals live in a world of absolutes and just seem to bury themselves in delusion. there was a guy ranting on the radio a few days a go claiming that "Sex" and "pornography" have destroyed civilization. He then ranted in anger about "Whores" and people that are featured on 'The Bachelor" as the real problems in society. "People have sex too early in relationships and it ruins the whole relationship" was another point. Which would be a nice argument if not for the fact that people loving and pornography have existed since man has existed. It's this weird "punishment" fantasy these people live in. Their views on sex, feminism, and other things are so rigid. Even your average suburb GOP voter would call these people out on their idiocy.

So Limbaugh is running with "a rogue prosecutor" for the PP indictments. How dare an enforcer of the law actually try to punish someone for engaging in illegal activity because they totally weren't genuine about wanting to break the law and its exactly the same as a police undercover sting except for the whole them not being cops or having any legal jurisdiction part. Otherwise identical.MariusLecter posted:The only people I've known to hate cats are likely to have or in the future torture them or other small animals. Oh gently caress off with this. I have a hard time even killing bugs that couldn't potentially harm me but I have no idea why anyone would own a cat when dogs exist. 9 times out of 10 they are moody and unpleasant and for all of the talk of how clean they are I can usually smell when someone has a cat as soon as I step indoors but only a dog if its neglected. Matt Walsh is a maliciously stupid dipshit but not liking cats says nothing about him as a person.
