that looks decent. as you get more experienced with the Atlas, you will probably need to think about shaving a little armor from those legs and getting another ton of AC/20 ammo in there.

I wouldn't run more than 3 tons, the AC/20 gets shot off pretty fast, I also DEFIANTLY wouldn't shave a ton of armor off your legs for it.

I'm seriously tempted to swap one of my three tons of AC/20 ammo for another SRM ton. People shoot straight for that big cannon every time and it's not even the thing that's doing the most damage to them.

I've got MC laying around and I'm thinking of nabbing a mech bundle. I'm torn between the Thunderbolt bundle (which comes with the SS and the Top Dog looks like it could be some good fun) and the Hunchback Bundle. Are there any others worth looking at?

Hunchback and Griffin bundles are both very good, as mentioned a couple of pages ago.

Hunchbacks are pretty much always good, but lately the Grid Iron has been a bit lackluster since the gauss nerf. Now that they dropped the charge time again it might be p good.

I don't have the Tbolt hero, but the other Tbolts are basically the standard IS go-to heavy for loving up clammers.

e: blackjack mastery pack is supposed to be good, and I'll be honest I friggin love the Cicada hero, but the pack might not be worth it if you got that CDA-2A from the tournament weekend before last.

i use seismic and target info gathering, but you can sub the info for radar dep. i use the ac20 range and rearm, but it dosent make much difference. for consumables i use both cool shot modules. PROTIP: rebind your number 1 and 2 keys to use consumables. you never use those keys to fire weapon groups anyways.

Don't put ammo in your CT, RT or LT. The extra structure means you can get good survivability when you lose your armour, so things that go bang should be elsewhere.

Note that ammo is consumed from the head, then arms, then torso's, then legs. The odds are very good that you'll empty the arms before they lose armour coverage, and as long as you have more total leg armour that CT armour (65+65 > 109) you'll get cored first. Some people run super lite on leg armour and heatsinks to cram a STD360 in there, but you need to be at the peak edge of dad pilots for that to matter.

The 5E has some OK quirks for missiles, but they're not insane. More to the point, most of the Marauder's effectiveness doesn't come from weapon quirks. It's got some good internal structure quirks which, combined with its geometry, make it tanky as gently caress using a standard engine. The arms are also high enough off the ground that they are mostly usable, unlike lots of other notable arm-heavy mechs. Stick 2 SRM6As in that mech along with a bunch of pulse lasers (either 5MPL or 3 LPL, your choice) and lots of heatsinks and it's a really nice brawler. The acceleration quirks also make it a good short range poker.

In general the really crazy weapon quirks are dolled out to make mechs that suck due for some reason that's not easy to fix (e.g. geometry and mount locations) more viable. Mechs that are pretty solid to begin with don't need them nearly as much.

UAC5 used to have both an ability to double tap with a jam chance, and a base faster fire rate than AC5's. However, if your pressed the fire button too fast, the jam chance was 100%, so it needed a careful sense of timing. The AHK script allowed you to toggle between the base rate of fire and the fast rate of fire, while avoiding the 'certainly jam' rate of fire, depending on the situation, and had a compensator that could be adjusted for latency and framerate.

Eventually, PGI adjusted the UAC5 base rate of fire to be the same as the AC5, and did away with the guaranteed jam for early firing. You still have the regular jam chance for double tapping (which can be modified by quirks) but that is easy enough to manage manually.

they're p. good man. They used to be really good with gauss/ERML but those have been nerfed a bit. Still, it's a 65-tonner with ECM and high mounts.

Hellbringers are good, if not great. ECM is still very good and they're one of the only heavies that can carry it. They lose out on weapon tonnage compared to the Ebon Jaguar and Timber wolf though.

Just wait til you put modules on them and get the elite skills with double basics. My god it's such a crazy fun time. The QuickDraw brawler I built broke 800 damage last night with 8 kills. Even 2v1d an Urban and Grasshopper and wrecked em.

The triple large pulse laser QuickDraw is still the best though. That thing is nuts.

I use the AC/20 to get peoples attention early, so they either stop shooting a different mech or break way from their buddies. Sneaking up is better, but the one I posted suits my play style more.


For people browsing this thread for builds:

Always treat ammo vs heatsinks vs armour distribution as something your should customize for your play style. Guns and engine size+type are what make a build (and jump jets), so you need to keep track of what other adjustments you could be making to help yourself out.

If you find you never use a weapon in aposted build, or are dying all the time, or want to understand a newly purchased mech, of course ask questions about how a build or mech is played, there is plenty of experience, but once you have the gist of it, everything else is up to you. You'll also get a feel for how a build is played based on the weapon ranges it features, and turning builds into playstyles will become more natural.

WHM-6D "Wubhammer"

2 LPLs and 5 MPLs with energy heat quirks and range quirks, along with range mods for both weapons and a cooldown mod for the LPLs and you have a stupidly potent machine. If you can get six solid volleys a round, you've contributed just fine.

With modules, the lasers' optimum ranges are 457m and 275m, which is pretty good for pulses. The LPL cooldown module brings them perfectly in sync with the MPLs, but it's not really necessary. I run that one in the mastery slot, so if you can't have something, have Not That.
