Thyrork posted:XCOM 2 feels like it has some DNA from it tho, some of the alien's do feel like they capture that trully otherworldly vibe. The alien in the mechanical suit and the doom ball feel very TftD from what I've seen. I'm amused by the sea monsters being more other worldly than the aliens. I mean I know what you mean, and it's true. But, it's still funny.

Gah. Why do I always do this? I get one mission, downed medium UFO. I bring a strong squad because i'm hungry for some meld. Listen on the wind and only hear floaters and since its time for me to go to bed I figure "Well I can just take the UFO and have them come to me." And they did. Twelve heavy floaters having an overwatch party outside. I think it is a freaking miracle I only lost 1 soldier, thanks to them not bumrushing me, though the rest are out for a month or so. That mission took two hours. And I'm already hosed for sleep and not thinking straight. I do another mission.

I'm still annoyed as hell that I lost Air and Space to a loving EXALT panic and couldn't do anything about it 'cos I'd just done the base assault and was already satellited up. Makes me want to abort this campaign out of pure loving spite. Question about EXALT, wasn't there supposed to be a scan or something you could buy to ward those fuckers off for a while?

Yeah, panic in shielded countries is the worst. I can endure research hacks and cash drain (and have had incidents where I've lost all of one day or 1 spacebuck when they struck) but there's not a lot you can do if a country goes red on you after you've put a satellite up other than holding the alien base in reserve until after you've squashed EXALT.

Note that taking out an EXALT cell in a country will make its panic go down.

It's not a game ender though. Just roll with the punches and keep going. Having a game end with no countries leaving and/or no soldier deaths is a game with no tension.

Of course not, I'm just annoyed at how lovely and terrible EXALT is I do feel like I'm over the hump, though, having cleared the base defense, so I figure unless I get really bored in the next couple weeks I'll just save myself for XCOM 2 later.

So if I recall correctly, as long as a cell has been revealed by an intel scan it's not going to pull anything trickshit. When a cell is getting ready to stage something, they try and disappear, for which you'll get a notification. You've got 3-6 days before they do whatever it is they're planning, but if you scan again to reveal them it foils their dastardly schemes and they have to start brainstorming again. You have to have scanned quite a few times in a month for it to be more expensive to just let an attack happen; while there are relatively painless ones like a couple days of research or a hundred bitcoins, there's always that chance for the panic spike.

If you totally forget to scan/send agents on covert ops then yeah, EXALT is going to be pretty painful, but that's on you. If you scan 2-3 times a month you get to show up with MECs and Plasma and just laugh as you stomp all over them while their ballistic ammo pings off your Titan suits. It's quite unfair how badly XCOM clowns EXALT. Affi posted:So I'm playing LW and I'm wondering how I'm holding up? You might want to base assault sooner if you can too, as bases gather resources and the more the aliens have the more they can send out Infiltrate missions. Plus the loot you can will help all your other projects.

It's cool that people can say this now, because holy poo poo, if you dared air that opinion back when they first showed the game, you'd get several pages of furious XCom fans telling you that you're mentally subnormal scum. Those enemy designs seriously looked cool. Completely alien aliens, with technology that has absolutely no parallel with anything on earth. I'd kinda like to see that come to XCom 2 in the form of a mod someday.

I honestly thought they looked bad simply because they looked like someone got really lazy with the 3D modeling tools, built a bunch of boxes with a texture on them and called it a day. The venom-like goo that would sprout from the ground was a lot cooler.

Personally I really liked the alien designs that were shown in those X-Com preview vids that everyone seemed to malign. Honestly, they were more alien and weird than anything that was actually in the original X-Com, which looking back on it now, are designs I found really kitsch and obvious.

They were meant to be, though. I think the idea was that all of the old alien horror stories were just warped accounts of scouting missions, hence why we had sectoid little gray men, chryssalid implanters, floater/muton human-like armored hulks... It is a little of an obvious choice, but having it all together at once was kinda neat.

Late November saw a focus on America with two terror missions and ethereals showing up. And teleporting. Along with teleporting cyberdiscs. Lucky me i had my a team with an extra helping of explosives. So now early December. Going to do both the exalt Base and a Base assault I think. My troops are fantastic. Training roulette really can create ubermench. They also created my aptly named snipers "poo poo" and "shittier " with absolutely no redeeming qualities. I ended up dismissing them both.

I'm on my first playthrough, and I just had the base defense mission. I made it a habit of always unequipping all my troops who weren't in battle, which... was a problem for this one. There was maybe one regular Sectoid and tons of Mechtoids, Cyberdiscs, and Mutons and Berserkers, which meant I was plinking away at their HP with default weapons. I only lost one regular though. I guess you never see any of the base security again, though? I threw up all of the base security as cannon fodder, and most of them performed that role admirably, but I had one girl who got knocked down to 1 HP on like the second turn and managed to see the whole mission through. She got something like five or six kills throughout the whole think, lots of which were low percentage shots, and I was looking forward to adding her to my crew.

I asked in the Steam thread and they pointed out that Greenmangaming says who they got their keys from on the individual game page, XCOM2 says 2K so your money would be going to the right people there. Now if it says "Authorised Distributor" like with Battlefront, who knows where your money is going

GMG is bar none the most legit third party seller of digital games after steam. Seriously they're as legit as you can get outside of buying off of Steam or from 2K directly. There are lots of shady keysellers out there, but GMG isn't really one of them. I don't have any affiliation with them at all, but I've bought a dozen or so games from them including preorders and have yet to had a remotely negative experience.

Green Man Gaming used to be squeaky-clean, but they started losing customers by not being able to keep up with the deep discounts that had drawn people before, so they've admitted before that they've gone to grey resellers like Kinguin before for certain games. This blew up around the release of Witcher 3 when CD Projekt announced that Green Man Gaming did not get any keys directly from them, which is why they now list the "key source" on their game pages.
