A friend of mine gave me a bunch of Eventide repacks that someone got him as a gift but that he has no use for since he doesn't play regularly. Apparently they'd been gotten from a garage sale. Between the repack status and the set, I obviously wasn't expecting any value, maybe just some EDH fodder. I'm like six packs in and I just turned up a $25 card. I mean it's a fringe dual land that's only "worth" that much because of a collective hallucination, but perhaps the same could be said of all rares

Does anyone have suggestions around good deck boxes that can hold 4 (or more) decks at a time? I've got two of these: http://www.amazon.com/Dual-Black-Magic-Matte-Finish/dp/B00O0ZFLZU/ but I'd prefer one instead of two. I used to have the box that comes with Deck Builder Toolkits, and that worked well, but I mistakenly threw it away. I'd rather not use a generic cardboard box.

Strange request, but if you don't want to just get four deckboxes and a bag/carrying case for them, it sounds like you want the Stack 'n' Safe from Ultimate Guard. Ask your local game shop.

Entropic posted:If you control a Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet and cast a Flaying Tendrils, can you choose which replacement effect applies so that you get a zombie from your opponent's 2/2 dying? Yes. Technically both happen, so it is a matter of stacking triggers, with flaying tendrils exiling it on first, then kalitas exiling it, then you get the zombie and tendrils fails to exile the already exiled card. If you're not playing with assholes, just say what you're doing and if they can't stop it as you describe when you do it, it'll be fine. The above is only notable if you play on mtgo (don't play on mtgo.)

http://www.statesman.com/news/news/crime-law/75000-in-magic-the-gathering-cards-stolen-austin-s/nqCmg/ Card store in Austin apparently got robbed blind. If they're estimating $75,000 in value from 300 cards stolen, they must have had some serious poo poo.

The issue is that their value of the goodies was too well known and they didn't give them any extra protection at night.

Oldsrocket_27 posted:http://www.statesman.com/news/news/crime-law/75000-in-magic-the-gathering-cards-stolen-austin-s/nqCmg/ We play at Pats sometimes. They run good tournaments. The video shows them loving with the door for 5 minutes with a water main key before they finally break it open and then 15 seconds in and out with a case of foil standard stuff, a case of modern and legacy staples and their vintage case including gobs of duals, alpha and beta power pieces. Edit: they were clearly players because they were bad at breaking in and they knew exactly what to take.

They could've just done what my store does with their stuff, lock it in a safe under the counter, and bring the really, really valuable poo poo home with them for the night.

Insurance might not cover the merch if its not at the location depending on what type of policy they have. Taking it home seems risky. Safe is a good idea. And Pats has tons of poo poo. Those were just the main pretty display cases in the glass displays. They just ganked them right out of the glass counters and bolted.

There's a jewelry store not far from where I live whose insurance policy mandates that they have to take everything out of their displays and stash it all when they're closed. Seems like a good policy, though obviously we're talking different orders of magnitude in price (but for how much longer, hyuk hyuk )

Let casinos run Magic tourneys. High stakes buy-ins for the grinder pros, casual $20 tourneys for the tourists, with a nominal % rake going to the house and everything else back to the winners. Professional dealers shuffle your deck for you. Massages at the table while you play. Buffet comps. It's real.

Ulamog stuff (bfz) was all Attack on Titan and Kozilek stuff (ogw) has some Evangelion. Obviously the only way to go from here is to have Emrakul's spawn be Pokemon themed.

Unrelated but in IRC we were talking what the earliest playable Reach creature was (not counting Woolly spider because that format was a joke) By earliest printing I think it's Silklash Spider, but that wasn't played until 2012. It looks like that honor goes to Thornweald Archer (cloudthresher is probably the notable one though). During the search I ran into lists from the best standard format ever though: http://mtgtop8.com/event?e=6&d=101507&f=ST Look at the piles in this top 8, including an aggro deck with bob and a 10 mana spell and whatever lsv is trying to do. Also a reminder that Solar Flare is a deck that got its name because Angel of Despair apparently looked like Krillin(who only uses it the once on Frieza - Tien is the original user) to the guy who named the deck. Interestingly enough (to me) Craig Kremples is 7th place on that top 8, so apparently he wasn't just some guy. And what LSV is doing is the Pickles lock and it's fantastic.
