There's actually some precedent that the game is a VR training simulation. In the original Rainbow Six novel they use a supercomputer-powered vr simulation that has like PS1-level graphics. lol

Huh, I've forgotten all about that part. I only sort of remember the heartbeat devices. The part that sticks out the most is when the van gets hit. Been a long time since I read that book. I wonder how it holds up.

Edit: Hard, just had a game type idea. What about a VIP/President style mode? Tall building or something, have to escort the VIP to the safe zone outside, while the "defenders" try and stop you/kill the VIP.

I also wondered if there could be a map or mode where everyone has access to the building cameras. Defenders can place sticky cameras while attackers get their normal drones? Always seemed odd that the attackers couldn't get access to the building cameras.

Rainbow Six actually has the one Clancy antagonist with some character--Popov. Terrorism? Is just business, comrade :ussr:

He's also the one Clancy antagonist who manages to not only skate away squeaky-clean, but also end up hugely wealthy and successful.

I just want to Fuze out of an objective when I hear little bitches shuffling around, getting ready to breach.

Although, a bunch of defenders would be kind of awful on offense. Bandit comes to mind. Jaeger could protect attackers from defenders throwing grenades and c4 out, I guess. Castle should probably not be an option to attackers, although locking defenders into rooms would be hilarious.

Yes.

Here's mine for Attackers:

1. Pick Thermite, play very cautiously until you get your charges off at the objective.
2. If Thermite is taken, protect Thermite

If I pick thermite I really like this idea.

If I pick anyone without a shield then thermite is on his own.

This is the right answer. Recruit with a shield if sledge is taken, maybe thermite. Rook or doc with shotguns if smoke is taken, maybe bandit/jaeger depending on the objective.

Be a mountain!

:havlat: SHIELD TIME :havlat:

Montagne - You have 2 jobs:
1. Be an invincible drone - Fully deploy your poo poo and spot people. Move in, move out. Don't overstay your welcome.
2. Be a punishing distraction - Fully deploy your shield and draw attention. Try to position yourself so that only one enemy can hit you if you were to stow your shield. Once he looks away or is otherwise occupied, start stowing your shield. If he is still not aiming at you, shoot that mofo (aim down sight). If he's aiming at you again, you can go for the quick head shot (risky) or go back to full deploy and try to catch him off guard again.

Loadout:
Revolver: ++body shots are worthwhile, ++If enemy's head isn't exposed, higher potential dps.
Semiauto: ++Substantially higher mag capacity, +++Substantially faster reload per bullet

I like to play revolver, but both guns are viable depending on your strengths as a player.

If you are confident with getting headshots, the semi is flat-out better but my aim is just plain awful so I do better with the revolver because body shots become worthwhile.
A revolver is better in situations where you can get a single shot off safely but a headshot is unlikely.

I always take smoke grenades, personally. Throw them on top of enemies. Seeing through/out of a smoke is difficult to impossible. Being outside and seeing someone standing in smoke is easy. Throw into chokepoints that enemies would like to enter to dissuade/punish entry from there. Top tier gadget if you are securing a biohazard/defuser from roamers returning to the point.

I find stuns to be much less predictable and sometimes their efficacy is just questionable. Take stuns if you like watching the world burn.

General shield use advice:

Learn to shoot at earliest possible full-accuracy when ADSing with shield. With good timing, you can get an accurate shot without the enemy seeing you drop shield.

If you are crouching vs someone standing on the same floor as you, they can probably hit your head by shooting over your shield. CROUCHING BEHIND YOUR SHIELD ISN'T ALWAYS THE ANSWER! In general, adopt the same height posture as the guy you are against. Stairs thwart normal shields from above and below. Unless you are montagne, avoid stairs or take them quickly. Stairs are where shields go to die.

If you are Montagne and you deploy your shield, you can not be stunned with a melee attack on your shield. However, enemies can use the peekers advantage to hit you from behind while they appear to be in front of you on your screen. You can bait out melee attacks on your shield this way, but you are not invincible!

LISTEN FOR "THE KISS OF DEATH". At the very start of the nitro cell throw animation, the operator peels velcro. It sounds like a kissy noise. The moment you hear it, you need to either kill them before they can detonate (hard) or run (varies depending on cover and trajectory of throw)

Advice for playing alongside shields:

As an addendum to the above: Stay well away from allied shield operators unless the coast is clear. They are targets for both suppressing/burst fire and nitro cells. Being behind a shield user is one of the most dangerous places to be in this game. Despite what montagne might say: BEING BEHIND SHIELD OPERATORS IS NOT SAFE. So many times, I'll lure out a cell charge, safely avoid the blast, but the guy behind me (who i ran past!) gets caught in it. Don't be that guy!

Shields enable their user to "soak" shots and attention. UTILIZE THIS BY ENTERING AWAY FROM THEM. They are ideal for starting a firefight at one entrance, then allowing their better-armed teammates to flank with fewer eyes on them. Blitz and recruit like pressing from leg cover (windows), montagne likes entering where he can have his shield deployed (doors).

Playing against shields:

Nitro charges. Enough said.

Think of shields as snipers that inexplicably like being up-close and treat them accordingly. Apply suppressing fire on the head area and move evasively, if possible. If they are decent, they can get a headshot off before you see them drop shield, but missing leaves them momentarily vulnerable. Suppressing fire and evasive movement make this maneuver extremely dangerous for the shield user.

Shields are noisy. Everyone is pseudo-pulse vs shields. Utilize this by hiding behind a corner (no vision at all) and then sprinting out with a melee, just as they are about to turn. Even if it's a fully-deployed montagne, you can get some additional attempts in before he can retaliate.

Why does it take so long to let go of a machine gun !!

Seriously though as much as I'd love a protective shieldplate, or bullets that stagger shield users, or for him to sing the state anthem of the russian federation when he shoots, can we just start with the excruciating amount of time to mount and dismount the gun? That alone is completely unnecessary and makes it a complete deathtrap. Being immobile at headshot height is already punishment enough. :ussr:
