Cool, but you're not most readers and I doubt most readers of manga go on slut walks or any sort of event that attempts to reclaim language that has negative connotations for sexuality. Nympho might actually a decent alternative as a translation of 痴女 as it's also generally a term associated with women over men. This is meant for its common usage and not for people who actually have the condition.

Oh, so the succubus was supposed to have a Minnesota accent? I didn't get that at all when I was trying to figure out how you guys had approached the hokkaido accent. It's a really good approach though. I hope it will become more clear as she gets more lines. An accent can be tough to establish.

Yeah, I thought it was your typical Texas kind of accent. Mind you, I'm foreign- the only accents that really stand out to me are Bostonian, Noo Yawk and the aforementioned Texan. For me at least, 'Nympho' carries connotations of actively having sex, while Shiho and the rest of pervert society seem to just want to titillate people.

I guess "charismatic pervert" is a little awkward, but it does accurately convey that she isn't just a regular pervert, her skills are in seduction and titillation rather than just having a dirty mind.

I think part of it is that 'pervert' as used in the context of anime and manga tends to have a certain playfulness to it, given how it's been used for the past few decades.

It's not just anime, I don't think. The word is pretty broadly used. I recently watched a google talk by the woman who wrote that super popular book about the magic of tidying up. When she called herself a clean freak, she used the word for pervert. Edit: Although, upon reflection, not the same word as female pervert that is used in this manga. The first character for "female pervert" is the first character for "molester" as well. So I'm not really sure what's up with the word choice in this manga. Twiddy posted:I don't quite know how to respond to this comment considering that a massive disrespect for QC leads to a lot of real world problems. Ah, yeah, I'm not trying to disrespect what we do. It can be quite difficult depending on the source material - and ESPECIALLY the translator. If you're working with a terrible TL, it makes you want to gouge your eyes out (I've actually dropped a few projects because I just couldn't handle working on the TL's scripts anymore. I'm a proofreader, not a TLchecker). What I'm saying is that out of the scanlation jobs, ours is logistically the easiest. Unless you're working on something like Pumpkin Scissors - with GIANT chapters, or with a bad TLer, proofreading takes the least amount of time, and QC is generally even less (again, depending on who you're working with). It takes a certain kind of person to be able to proofread though, and a lot of people think that just because they're a native speaker that they can proofread with minimal effort (that part is key). That's where the terrible proof jobs come from (with what I've seen after proofreading for ... god, 4.5 years - and checking dozens upon dozens of proofreader tests).

Yeah, it's really pretty tough to pin down - especially because she doesn't use it all the time, though we did a good bit of work trying to distinguish it from the Texan/southern accent. Also, she only uses the accent when talking to her parents / I think when she gets flustered, which makes it even more difficult to pin to her. Hopefully it will get some more screen time in the future.

Dammit Shima, just... dammit, Shima. But yeah, considering the people Kuromine hangs out with, why can't he be a superhero? Surely Nagisa's got some power armour somewhere, or Akane could give him powers, Akari train him to become Batman etc. EDIT: Or he could go along with Shiho's plans, and become a (the first?) male Charismatic Pervert! You can do it, Kuromine!
