That's exactly why I enjoyed 5. They went back to the well instead of doing these ship battles or whatever the gently caress. It was a good send-off to the series too unless you count that PSP Suikoden game that never left Japan.

Isn't BoF3 ridiculously long? I beat that game when it came out and when I had the free time to do so, I can't imagine trying it now.

Suikoden 2 established a perfect formula for the series, but Suikoden 3 clearly wanted to experiment a lot more and did a bunch of new and different things. It didn't work out too smoothly, and alienated a lot of its regular audience. It was big but bloated and nothing felt quite as rich and polished as Suikoden 2.

They made further attempts to experiment with Suikoden 4, but had an even smaller budget and less to work with there and the result was...underwhelming.

Suikoden 5 is exactly what the series' third entry should have been--a bigger, slightly flashier Suikoden 2 with a few new additions to the battle system or something like that. The castle-building, character recruitment and styles were all reminiscent of that game, and it was the best at capturing that great atmosphere that the old games had.
Yeah, #3 just didn't feel good to me. Plus, none of the front-runners felt like the One True protagonist so it lessened it. If memory serves, I think you chose which one was the protagonist (based on rune) and you played all three of them? My memory is a mess, probably.

#5 absolutely felt like #2 in all the right ways. Also, in spite of how folks seem to look down on #1 (rightfully so past a point), it is still definitely a solid game :shobon: Never touched #4; heard enough bad things to stay away from it.

Also on the topic of BoF4 and how rad it is, I encourage people to listen to its soundtrack, if that is your kinda thing. Wonderful music :allears:

There may have been a last-minute replacement for the PS+ games before they were announced. https://twitter.com/oldmario/status/692862216484179968 Under the What's New section on PS3 for EU accounts, an icon for PS+ games shows Grid Autosport along with I Am Alive, not Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. I wonder what happened with I Am Alive for it to be replaced. Will it show up in a future PS+ game lineup?

Even though Sony's abandoned it, there are still a decent number of games coming out for it in Japan, granted many are PS4/Vita multiplats.

e: Plus there are plenty of past releases to localize. Cyber Sleuth first launched last March, and XSeed might bring over Tokyo Xanadu at some point.

SUPPORT: Thank you. One moment while I work on this for you.
Me: ok :)
SUPPORT: Thank you for your patience, in this case could you please provide me more details about the main reason for you in order to request the refund?
Me: With Amazon Prime, I get a physical copy for 10$ less
Me: and free shipping
SUPPORT: I understand in this case according to the user agreement all sales are final; however, I will submit the refund for review.
SUPPORT: Your refund will be processed as a one-time Gesture of Goodwill back to your PSN wallet. Your refund will be reviewed within 3-5 business days and you’ll receive an email once it’s been approved or denied.
Me: well... on this page:
Me: https://www.playstation.com/en-au/get-help/help-library/store---transactions/pre-orders/playstation-store-pre-orders/
Me: "Once payment has been taken from your wallet, you can cancel your pre-order up to but not including the release date and will receive a refund of the purchase price to your wallet."

Me: and that I WILL receive a refund. not my words.
Me: I looked it up before asking for support.
Me: So I don't understand when you speak about the user agreement. this is a pre-order and not a final sale, the product isn't even out yet.
SUPPORT: Yes I understand but every single purchase is a final sale including the pre-orders since you purchase a product from the PSN store even if the product is not released yet and I'm just providing you with the PlayStation guidelines and the information regarding the refund request.
SUPPORT: But don't worry I already submitted your request.
Me: ok I know you don't write anything up, I don't hold grudge against you. But then, the infos from playstation.com isn't totally true and should be changed...

You should get a refund no-questions-asked, they usually say that to scare people away from asking for one (which itself isn't legal in a bunch of countries).

Some numbers of console sales in japan 2015:
http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2016/01/06/ps4-sales-1-3-million-units-in-japan-during-2015-ps-vita-over-1-million/

Here’s how each system performed in 2015, according to Media Create (lifetime in brackets):

3DS (includes all models) – 2,347,554 (20,194,610)
PS4 – 1,330,410 (2,255,980)
PS Vita (including PS Vita TV) – 1,069,471 (4,492,546)
Wii U – 877,082 (3,000,365)
PS3 – 219,103 (10,237,637)
Xbox One – 20,624 (66,582)

It seems like the Vita isn't doing that bad relative to the big consoles, it's just that the 3ds and Monster Hunter dominate Japan

The Innocent Sin PSP port is great and makes some nice modern concessions. I beat it but then got a rude awakening trying to follow it up with the PS1 version of Eternal Punishment because it was lower res, 4:3-aspect, worse translation, other quality-of-life things missing, etc...

I kinda stopped playing EP after the first few dungeons.

Yeah, it released 7 months after the PS4 and very very few people there care about the exclusives the console offers (especially since it's now an automatic given that any game not made by Microsoft is a de facto timed exclusive), not to mention the console's size being off-putting for Japanese home entertainment arrangements and Microsoft burning a ton of good will when they launched the first Xbox and summarily fired most of the Japanese staff on release day there. At least there's a Japanese Killer Instinct player who placed in 7th at EVO. :shobon:
