8-Bit Scholar posted:Suikoden 5 is exactly what the series' third entry should have been--a bigger, slightly flashier Suikoden 2 with a few new additions to the battle system or something like that. That's exactly why I enjoyed 5. They went back to the well instead of doing these ship battles or whatever the gently caress. It was a good send-off to the series too unless you count that PSP Suikoden game that never left Japan. Isn't BoF3 ridiculously long? I beat that game when it came out and when I had the free time to do so, I can't imagine trying it now.

i played bof3 in high school and never finished it. good music though. i just started bof4 and i like it more than my nostalgia memories of 3. the overall presentation is incredibly strong and the intro chapter is pretty cool while i remember bof3 dragging

8-Bit Scholar posted:Suikoden 2 established a perfect formula for the series, but Suikoden 3 clearly wanted to experiment a lot more and did a bunch of new and different things. It didn't work out too smoothly, and alienated a lot of its regular audience. It was big but bloated and nothing felt quite as rich and polished as Suikoden 2. #5 absolutely felt like #2 in all the right ways. Also, in spite of how folks seem to look down on #1 (rightfully so past a point), it is still definitely a solid game Never touched #4; heard enough bad things to stay away from it. Also on the topic of BoF4 and how rad it is, I encourage people to listen to its soundtrack, if that is your kinda thing. Wonderful music

Kind of surprised there's still that many Vita games coming out. Even if they are mostly cross-buy and mostly indies or anime.

Suikoden V is such an underrated fantastic game and it's painful that so few people have played / beaten it. It's easily the second best Suikoden, and in my personal opinion pretty close to II.

Practically every third party low to mid budget game in Japan is Vita/PS4, a few even throw in a PS3 version still as well.

I kinda want to play Persona 2: Innocent Sin on my PSTV and it's on sale on PSN. Is the combat 90's enough that I probably won't enjoy it? I asked if the game was worth playing in the RPG thread but I wasn't sure if it was worth it for the story or if the gameplay was super 90's.

The story is great, the gameplay is indeed 90's SMT. At least it's not Persona 1.

Yeah, it released 7 months after the PS4 and very very few people there care about the exclusives the console offers (especially since it's now an automatic given that any game not made by Microsoft is a de facto timed exclusive), not to mention the console's size being off-putting for Japanese home entertainment arrangements and Microsoft burning a ton of good will when they launched the first Xbox and summarily fired most of the Japanese staff on release day there. At least there's a Japanese Killer Instinct player who placed in 7th at EVO.
