Find me a person who unironically enjoyed the mechanics of a huge, politics-fueled fleet fight and we'll find us a liar. I'm sure the schemers and diplomats are having their own version of fun, but the idea of being CTA'd for some big fight coming up and then having to sit through hours of TIDI "because it's important for the corp/alliance" is enough for me to never even consider applying to GSF proper. That, and I know from enough MMOs with goons that the average line goon is just as bad, if not worse, than a pubbie in terms of "how smart" and "how pleasant to be around".

I don't doubt that there's :other: fun stuff to do in null besides big TIDI fights, but I hate the idea so much that I'm not even willing to entertain the possibility. I just want to scam people, and highsec has the highest concentration of stupid bears to be cheated.

Picrelated, it's a picture of a collection of stolen missioner ships about two years old (the hangar has since grown much larger in size). Every single ship is from a unique mark, still fitted exactly the way it was received. You can't get that kind of enjoyment flying in GSF fleets.

Social pressure is a helluva thing. I've heard enough griping and groaning about the latest "man I was up until __________ because I had to shoot a structure/make a reinforcement timer/stick with a committed fleet that escalated and went to TIDI/stay with a roam". Sure, there's a narrative of "we don't force anyone to do anything", but in every organization/guild/clan/whatever there's expectations and a culture to help out the guy next to you and listen to some degree about what anyone in leadership says, and they felt it, they felt that they "had to" do things they didn't want to and/or like. Don't tell me that doesn't exist in GSF, because otherwise GSF would never have gotten anything done. You might not call it a CTA and you might not mandate attendance, but at the end of the day there's going to be big group stuff happening that people will be getting involved with and unfortunately 100% of that is so unappealing to me I really just want to distance myself from it as far as possible.

To make an analogy, I consider big nullsec stuff to be like a cult that you absolutely cannot stomach the idea of. The people in the cult might be super pleasant and cool outside of that cult, but at the end of the day the fact that they're in that cult bothers you so much that you just can't bring yourself to become extremely close friends with them, the kind who would be your best man at a wedding or give you a place to sleep when your house burns down, because you know that inevitably the cult is going to become part of that friendship; because it's such a big part of the other person's life, befriending them means getting involved with that cult to some degree. Not saying that GSF is a cult (lol) but that's just how I feel.

It's a poor analogy. I know it's hard to believe on the internet, and that tone doesn't really transfer well in text, but here the platitude of "not saying _____ but _______" is actually being used to self-deprecate here, not to "talk poo poo and pretend to be nice about it", believe it or not.

Maybe I should file with GSF anyways though. inb4 J4G

That's their own loving choice and much like "oh man I'm tired because I was up all night playing Fallout 4" it's largely an admission of wanting to do said thing, wrapped in the guise of a complaint.
You'll find more "gently caress main fleet" sentiment in GSF than you'll find the opposite, by a wide margin, so if anything the "social pressure" would be to kow tow to not going on fleets.

If you join and openly and loudly proclaim that you will never go on any fleet, ever, nothing happens to you.

As DT said this is the outsiders opinion on something they know nothing about; this particular opinion is largely absent from people with any experience of 0.0 and is usually parroted by NPC alts on Eve-O who pretend to be in the know but actually just mine in highsec.

Read the replies. Went to go shoot things with my GSF friend ("friend") who fed me all this crap. Turns out he'd been using "oh man I HAVE to go on this GSF thing today/this evening/this weekend" as an excuse to gently caress off and do serious real life things, because for some reason he got the idea that I wouldn't understand him having a life, because for some reason being a functional adult and doing things like job interviews, classes, and going out with girls is something shameful. For more than three years. He didn't want me to join GSF because he got the impression I'd stop the highsec scamming business to "join him" and he liked doing that more than GSF fleets with his EVE time, which I don't doubt.

He'd basically led me to believe he was some low level FC/whatever and was constantly "on the clock", when in reality all he does is shitpost all the time and welp the occasional (reimbursed) ship.

I am now slightly irate with him, to put things lightly. Can't trust goons IRL either, apparently. If I had a dumbass opinion, it's because I've been getting lied to my face by a friend I trusted for years. Well, that makes it sound more serious than it is.

It's hard to say, the extractor (The injector can be sold for isk, 500k SP at a time) still requires Aurum, so IDK how that's going to affect the PLEX market, I know Aurum tokens have been rising in price pretty steadily though.

PLEX prices are already pretty insane though, I think using Aurum was kind of a piss poor idea. Anything that drives up PLEX prices is bad in my mind.
