No I agree, this is a really weird-rear end discussion. A bunch of people here sound like my grandpa asking if my brother's new girlfriend was Persian.

I'm serious here. http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2011/11/28/no-death-no-taxes posted:I suggested that there was something to be gained from staying in school, reading great works of literature and philosophy, and arguing about ideas with people who have different views. After all, this had been the education of Peter Thiel. In “The Diversity Myth,” he and Sacks wrote, “The antidote to the multiculture is civilization.” I didn’t disagree. Wasn’t the world of libertarian entrepreneurs one more self-enclosed cell of identity politics? I think we can reasonably assume that no he has not, unless he was lying then for ~signaling~ purposes, which seems unlikely.

My favorite part is right after that quote:Nosek was visibly upset: in high school, in Illinois, he had failed an English class because the teacher had said that he couldn’t write. If something like the Thiel Fellowships had existed, he and others like him could have been spared a lot of pain. This guy failed an English class in loving high school, and he has still not gotten over it now that he has more money than most people will ever see in their lives. He probably can't write, incidentally. Yudkowsky certainly can't.

LessWrong may be a zombie site and know it, but the neoreactionary downvote squad is still hard at work. edit: hypotheses on what went wrong with LessWrong and how to reinvigorate it. Note that none of them are "the Sequences completely fall apart under critical examination" or "Roko's Basilisk AHAHAHA" or "no thank you I think your cult may not be for me." Note also the phrasing of the problem as LW being too active. divabot has a new favorite as of 13:59 on Feb 1, 2016 |

Adam Cadre is very much a democratic socialist. Also Adam Cadre is non-white by at least some definitions of non-white. His brother called himself Raihan Kadri (same name, different spelling). 1. Scott is absolutely, beyond doubt, not neoreactionary. He's probably left of the American center on nearly every issue. 2. Scott has a bunch of ideas going against core leftist dogma, and he takes serious neoreaction, instead of just filing it under "insane delusions" like a reasonable person.

The RooshV thing seems like pretty good trolling to me, aberrant nature of his writings aside. If you actually read the guys announcement, he has no intention of personally attending any of these meetings he is trying to arrange. Not distracted by this fact, multiple petitions have been forwarded to prevent him from entering countries he has no intention of traveling too. The country he actually lives in, Poland, also seems fine with his presence.
