I ordered a bunch of colors of chip from American Gaming Supply, whihc let me get some plain reds, yellows, and purples for objects (and some white for when I actually feel like using an ultra-light) plus some pink, orange, grey, brown, and other assorted colors for when I need to mark weird stuff, like Spiral portals or differentiate between multiple copies of one figure when it matters (e.g. Construct assignment). If you go that route, be prepared to drop about $40-50 on a good assortment with their $12 flat-rate shipping. That should do you for a LONG time, though I'd also suggest getting a crapload of greens and blues so you can make tokens of bystanders and 3D objects. I started making object tokens because of the Gamma Bomb and the fact that you have to occupy its square, which is physically impossible with it there.

I might need one of those racks with a lid. I ended up buying a bunch of the token rings from MiniatureMarket from their Heroclix "blowout" or whatever they just ended (http://www.miniaturemarket.com/catalog/product/view/id/47402/s/fls-id-red/, for example, are the red ones). They're not super-complicated - just colored rubber rings you can put around objects to clearly identify them. For $2 a pack for 5, I got one of each object color - much harder to miss the object in the field, and easily separates yours from your opponent's. I don't think they fit the newer clix oreo bases, though, so they're pretty much for older clix or objects. Supposedly Wal-Mart has some sort of exclusive 5 or 6-sided Star Wars tokens they've started selling. I'm hoping the upcoming clixFX bases don't get expensive - I'd love to have a ton for characters with Barrier who can create flame walls.

I've got mine in a tacklebox, though you can also use pill bottles for special sets of them, like if you've got special object tokens or bystanders you've made. I keep enough regular chips to do me for any given night in one of the tallest widest-mouthed pill bottles like you'd get in a Wal-Mart pharmacy.

So I gathered a couple of friends to give my new minis a spin in our first game. I've read the rules and understand most of them so I'm confident in that I can explain the game to them rather well. Now, we'll probably end up with 3 guys, counting me. Is there any special rule for a 3 player game? Should we just go free-for-all, or is there a way we can play 2v1 that is actually balanced? Specially keeping in mind I only have like 20 minis for us 3, and all of them are trades I made for a boardgame. I tried to grab pieces that were rated as good in hcrealms, marvel universe, and modern era.

I've never enjoyed anything that wasn't 1 v 1 just cause I find that it normally becomes 2 v 1 and then 1 v 1. If you want to straight do a 2 versus 1 then the only fair way I can think of to do it would be to give the one double the points you get. So if you each are doing 300 he'd get 600. Honestly I'd just do some 1 v 1 games until you get the basics down. Then figure out if you want to do 3 player games

Not to mention that things get weird once you start getting into more than two players. For example, powers you can use on your opponent's turn, like Probability Control, reset when it becomes your turn. So if you have a guy who probs your first opponent's attack into a miss on your first turn, you can't use PC on the next opponent's turn from that same source. Adding more players also drags out the time, and sometimes you really need that full 50 minutes for just a two-player game.

Pff. I love battle royales and having multiple players on a map, but it definitely works better with an even number of players, and it does start taking a while for your turn to come around - helps to institute a time limit to keep things moving, and since you have so many players to go through, you should still have plenty of time to think about your moves. Multiple player games are fun because you are all playing the same game, and politicking becomes an aspect - trying to convince one opponent that another opponent is the biggest threat so they make a better target than you, etc.

Yeah, and I'm really impressed by the Batman and Nightwing they've got there. For 125 points, you get a decent, flexible Batman, a Nightwing with Sidestep, Leap/Climb, Outsiders, and can copy the Batman TA, and that weapon drop object. That's a whole hell of a lot of utility for the cost.

Was the Wonder Woman/Superman set produced in very small quantities or something? It's the one set I didn't bother getting anything from as I had little money at the time and I meant to get a CUR set from ebay later but there's none of those and even the sellers I usually get some stuff from have just a few rares for high prices this far out and no SRs, one is even selling the basic commons for £4.99 each which is pretty crazy.

I played in a pre-release last night, running: - Elasti-Girl - Mercury - Copper - Creeper - Booster Gold Round 1: Versus Crazy Quilt, Condiment King, Alura, and 003 Batman Pretty much every roll went against me. Quilt and Condiment's powers slowed me down quite a bit, and by the end of the round, my opponent just had more points. Round 2: Versus Black Cat, Wizard, Robotman, Witch, and 002 Batman This time, my rolls came through, and Booster Gold's prob control countered my opponent's. Elasti-Girl's colossal bonus ended up being a huge help, as she absolutely clobbered everyone she went up against. Even when KO'd, I saved her with a low Weird Regeneration roll, keeping her on the map. I really just wanted to play a group of random dials, and thought 5 characters on a 300-point team might be a stretch, but it worked out rather well. Elasti-Girl is going to get a ton of play. The Metal Men aren't super powerful, but very flexible as long as they're near each other for help. 1-1 was good enough for the small group we had to get a pick of prizes, so I took home the Gaslight Batman. No God packs, but the one person I didn't play (and overall winner) got a KC Superman. The judge didn't play, but did buy a brick - 3 ID cards, prime Ivy, no chases. I also bought the retail Brainiac Skull Ship, which I didn't need, but just looks so awesome, I went for it.

Huh. The mystery of not knowing an opponent's dial, or not knowing what you might lose if you push, seems like a big part of the game. But it also makes for agonizing decisions that indecisive jerks like me take too long to make. I'm trying to decide if knowing everybody's dial all the time would make things better or not. To be fair, much of my fun is in playing the characters and teams I want to play, as they say. So maybe it won't matter that much. But it does take away some ability to surprise an opponent. Also trying to decide how I feel about the whole 'specialist' thing. Yeah, I see the appeal of being able to cram more dudes and fuller theme teams onto your force, but I don't know if more characters is compelling if all the dials are one-note boring dials. Then again, the generalist dial may not be as interesting if it's visible and no longer has the ability to surprise someone with its versatility. But maybe I'm overestimating the need to have your opponent not know things.

My brother and I have been playing since Infinity Challenge and he is disgustingly upset about the Dials on Cards. I am neutral, I don't think it really helps or hurts in a major way. What I do find dumb is that LAYOUT.

I recognize now that I'm knee-jerking a bit too hard and being a little sentimental about this change that I don't think is all that big a change, on the whole Basically I immediately thought back to tons of fun moments like deciding to do the dreaded mystic damage + push last ditch shot to try to kill a fig and double-guessing yourself the whole time wondering out loud, "he couldn't possibly be any deeper, right?" I mean, that's a pretty big part of the fun, especially for new sets. Like, it can't just be the shops I've played in where "I don't know where this fig goes" is part of the common parlance So that's like, weekly "fun" games where a tiny bit of magic is lost I suppose. That's fine, we'll adjust. Where I think less is different is in the competitive scene. Most people will have their team's dials memorized so they know when they can stand to push or how much damage they can take. Any "meta" figs that have stop clicks are known by the hardcore players; that's part of being a "good" player is recognizing and remembering where the commonly seen "good" figures' dials go. The "specialist" and "generalist" thing seems like an incredibly odd way to talk about the game design though. Are they basically going to do < 100 figs with regular (non-special) powers and then others that are "typical" figures? I would definitely be OK with pre-carded era dials with modern era combat values, if that's what they're going for. Not to mention I'm pleased to see they're going to be limiting improved movement a bunch more. Overall I'm not so against these changes, I guess, that is, until we see what they actually entail

I think you can already see the specialist/generalist thing, just look at the Single Facet of Superman/Batman pieces in this set. My main complaint is that the new card design is just horrible. Why do you need the super big picture of the 3D render of the piece? And why is there all that extra black space under the keywords? Gross, guys.

As for the specialist/generalist thing, that's pretty much how I've been describing characters in general. I've always been a fan of specialist pieces, since they do a thing. Having a piece that toggles between roles (like going from RS to Charge, or the reverse, which is just terrible) can lead to your team just not at all working with a single roll that goes against you. "I built for top-dial ranged support! Now my guy runs and punches things! gently caress." Honestly, any half-decent player I've gone up against has known if a character will toggle roles, or if they can push, or things like that, so I doubt this will have an impact on high level play, apart from some d-bags having to pore over dials on the cards in the middle of a match in order to stall for time. That's really my biggest issue with it.

However, I really have a problem with the dial taking up enough space that the card needs a two-column layout by default, which in turn necessitates crunching the font size down. Isonorm Becker doesn't do well at small sizes, and it may be the anti-aliasing in that image but it really shows there.

I'm mostly worried with this setup about what's going to happen with characters that have massive rainbow dials, like Crazy Jane. I guess with this specialist/generalist split, they're trying to cut down on number of different powers? Regardless, that's a TON of dead space on the back of the card.
