It is, but mechanically, those weapons would have to be coded as something other than extended hull pieces since, if they were, they'd also be used as the hull/armor. Depending on how impact damage is calculated, as well, it could lead to hilariously destructive or impotent shoving matches.

Also, I'm sure some CIG fan/employe pitched grappler arms like in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cF2dylb-tY&t=780s (it's anime)

I mean, making a low budget indie movie is hard. It looked better than a bunch of stuff I watch on netflix or prime. I dunno, I feel like beating up on a dude for a little movie is kinda over the top. Beat him up over not telling us what his CIG facebook is saying or whatever but shoestring budget movies are hard. I'll link this interview because it sorta helps illustrate how hard it is to do these, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbFV2Jpn7aI I guess if he had 106 million dollars to make a movie and gave us that....yeah. I'd trash him too. It's like comedy, you punch up and not down.

Edit: Lmao watching this again and he points out he needed a plan at the beginning in order to stay on budget and to get what he wanted in it. Unlike Crobert

Yeah, I don't know. Personally, I do like some of the ship designs in Elite: Dangerous but in general I give sci-fi a lot of leeway. Then again, I grew up watching stuff like Red Dwarf, Lexx, etc. I think once you see one really far out sci-fi show, you kind of give everything else a pass. I guess if anything you might say 'uninspired' as opposed to just laughable. Another thing is simply identity, like...I'm pretty sure anyone who has played Freespace can recognize the Hercules in any instance it might pop up, or someone might recognize the Sidewinder from Elite. But a ship like the Gladius in SC and the Eagle in ED are kind of pretty generic, as they even kind of look like a Klingon Bird of Prey depending on how you look at it.

Also, hi everyone.

Well, goons do tend to criticize stuff pretty unfairly. poo poo special effects in his silly movie? Fine, you don't have the money, not everyone is Chris Roberts. poo poo actors? well, it's part of the charm, not everybody can be Sandi. Having two people talking to each other and using alternating head shots where both are on the left side of the screen? You don't know what you're doing.

For sure. I understand the challenges, though with the internet existing I don't think a low budget excuses a lack of understanding of basic principles.

That said, Fuzzy Modem was the one who brought up his own work and compared it to Star Citizen. He clearly fancies himself a ship designing CGI pro so I think it's fair to laugh at the fact that he used his local library's exterior as the top of a futuristic skyscraper base and couldn't be bothered to photoshop out the wooden benches and trash bins.

It's why the big mining spider with the chainsaw feet from SC that showed up earlier in the thread was so interesting. I could imagine that being used for something else than mining, such as climb onto of other ships and cutting them in half. It gives a different and usual perspective to space combat and makes those asteroid belts, space wrecks, and broken planetoids a threatening place since it cuts down on your maneuverability and line of sight, allowing melee ships to get up close.

You don't give a poo poo about the truth. You don't give a poo poo that your "friend" actually did write everything I shared. Well guess what; she loving did. Every communication I linked is one between myself and Cloud Imperium Games. You, like so many other backers, have invested so much time and energy into Star Citizen that the possibility that it all might come crashing down is a terrifying prospect. Imagine for a second that it really is all a lie. Imagine that Star Citizen really is a disaster that will never be released in the manner that they are dreaming of. Imagine that Chris Roberts really is either outright lying to you or that he is pathologically incapable of perceiving the possibility that things are hosed because of his management approach. Imagine that all of your effort, time, money, energy, everything you've done is a complete and utter waste. Can you?

I get it. I was there. I was obsessed with Star Citizen, pouring over every detail, obsessively watching every lovely show and gleaning every hint of game information. I truly, genuinely, authentically believed in the dream that was Star Citizen. I desperately wanted it to be a reality so that I could play it with all of my friends. Imagine all the poo poo you're getting on these forums, all the poo poo Ben and everyone else got, and increase it with an order of magnitude. That was my loving life on these forums defending this abortion of a game. I got poo poo on by this community for supporting SC, I got poo poo on by RSI for actually speaking my mind, and I got poo poo on repeatedly by Lesnick himself every time I expressed a concern. And in spite of all of that it took me getting loving banned to finally realize just how hosed things are. It was only after I got pulled out of the RSI forums and was forced to see things on the outside that I got a perspective other than the SC reality distortion field. I should send whoever demanded I be removed a thank you card.

Beer, you're cool.

The charge was "Doritos". The Eagle may be a tad uninspired, but I chose to show it because it specifically isn't a Dorito. Measuring the rest of Elite's art direction on that one thing is a little unfair I think. It's not just generic sci-fi, everything has a reason for being there and they're quite consistent and detailed with it. For example, all the ships work the same way, so even hugely disparate models will have features you can recognise, like the heat radiators.

Meanwhile, Star Citizen's art has things because Chris thought it looked cool that week. It's a jumbled mess.

Also, if you don't think the Imperial Cutter is a thing of beauty you're a class A pillock.

Oh, and this:

Bolow posted:

This is one of the reasons flying in Elite is so great. It's visceral. The ships have weight, they rumble and buck under your control, and they all have their own character. What's more they feel real, even if the flight model is just a cartoon version of real physics.

Star Citizen's flight model is far superior, to say nothing of its quality in other areas.

Play War Thunder. It's not a space game, granted but it is the most popular flight sim game around and is an MMO with purchasable premium vehicles and fully realised atmospheric flight models for hundreds of different aircraft.

War Thunder is a free to play game. You don't even have to pay :10bux: let alone thousands to have a huge hangar full of vehicles. This is what Star Citizen will be directly competing with for flying shooty gamer time.
