alf_pogs posted:honestly the idea of spaceships being used as big jousting melee weapons is - in my head - kind of cool. It is, but mechanically, those weapons would have to be coded as something other than extended hull pieces since, if they were, they'd also be used as the hull/armor. Depending on how impact damage is calculated, as well, it could lead to hilariously destructive or impotent shoving matches. Also, I'm sure some CIG fan/employe pitched grappler arms like in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cF2dylb-tY&t=780s (it's anime)

Having two people talking to each other and using alternating head shots where both are on the left side of the screen? You don't know what you're doing.

alf_pogs posted:honestly the idea of spaceships being used as big jousting melee weapons is - in my head - kind of cool. :agree: It's why the big mining spider with the chainsaw feet from SC that showed up earlier in the thread was so interesting. I could imagine that being used for something else than mining, such as climb onto of other ships and cutting them in half. It gives a different and usual perspective to space combat and makes those asteroid belts, space wrecks, and broken planetoids a threatening place since it cuts down on your maneuverability and line of sight, allowing melee ships to get up close. This was my first loving thought when someone brought up "melee spaceships". It's an improvement over the flying forklifts that are the Vanduul fighters.

You don't give a poo poo that your "friend" actually did write everything I shared. Well guess what; she loving did. Every communication I linked is one between myself and Cloud Imperium Games. You, like so many other backers, have invested so much time and energy into Star Citizen that the possibility that it all might come crashing down is a terrifying prospect. Imagine for a second that it really is all a lie. Imagine that Star Citizen really is a disaster that will never be released in the manner that they are dreaming of. Imagine that Chris Roberts really is either outright lying to you or that he is pathologically incapable of perceiving the possibility that things are hosed because of his management approach. Imagine that all of your effort, time, money, energy, everything you've done is a complete and utter waste. Can you? Beer, you're cool.

tooterfish posted:The charge was "Doritos". The Eagle may be a tad uninspired, but I chose to show it because it specifically isn't a Dorito and measuring the rest of Elite's art direction on that one thing is a little unfair I think. It's not just generic sci-fi, everything has a reason for being there and they're quite consistent and detailed with it. For example, all the ships work the same way, so even hugely disparate models will have features you can recognise, like the heat radiators.

It's not a space game, granted but it is the most popular flight sim game around and is an MMO with purchasable premium vehicles and fully realised atmospheric flight models for hundreds of different aircraft. War Thunder is a free to play game. You don't even have to pay let alone thousands to have a huge hangar full of vehicles. This is what Star Citizen will be directly competing with for flying shooty gamer time.
