Also, a question:

How much data does this game use, say, in an hour of continuous play? Google turns up nothing but forums on which people helpfully say "if you had unlimited Internet it wouldn't matter :smug:"

As for "lol fai get unlimited internet dweeb," there are many places in the U.S. that still have iffy-at-best providers, and some that still have none at all. My case is a combination of both that and the fact that I'm staying at a friend's house for the season, and I want to make sure my splatting Aidens isn't eating up her monthly data allowance.

My shared house Internet was on the fritz the other day (probably my housemates torrenting non-squid related media), so I used the 4G hotspot on my phone and I think I used up about 300MB after 2 hours of gameplay.

I had less disconnects and lag than being on wifi too.

Again; get an ethernet adapter. If you can't connect one directly to your internet router, get a cheap wireless router and bridge your network through it.

To answer your other question, it should be a pathetically small amount. The amount of game data that is used for communication is practically negligible. We're talking like a few KB tops. After playing for hours it would add up to a few MB but that's all.

Pretty much the only practical thing to worry about is all the patches. Those are obviously huge. The actual game data is tiiiny by comparison.

It took a while, but someone in Japan came up with an online Inkling creator. Now you too can have the totally original Splatoon OC that you've always wanted (do not steal.)

Now, it's all in Japanese, you can't make dudes and the clothing selection is a little limited, but it's apparently been updated since launch and I was able to make up my go-to Carbon Roller loadout, at least:

Then you should be agitating for municipal broadband. Your community is lacking a basic utility - would you just say "that's not an option everywhere!" if we told you to get grid power when you asked how much it'd drain your batteries-and-solar-panel setup?

Try flanking and attacking the other team from behind. It's always helpful to have one teammate doing that.

This is not the case in the U.S.

While municipal broadband has been a success in some parts of the country, the ISP lobby has been actively lobbying to make municipal broadband difficult or impossible to provide legally in many states. This isn't a fight the nerd community of Podunk County, USA can win.

I don't know about Time-Warner but Comcast is definitely rolling out data caps in test markets within the United States.

Well, there's that, and that it's not really my fight to begin with--I'm just staying here for the winter. Back home, up in the rural poverty funland that is the Midwestern U.S., I actually have a choice of three providers that are relatively affordable. My buddy here in rural east Texas has access to a single provider, and they have data caps. They do offer an unlimited plan, but it's prohibitively expensive.

Dr Cheeto posted:

They try this once in a while, and as far as I've heard, it's never received well. Decisions like trying out metering and capping their service make me think they're actively trying to stay in the top 5 list of "Worst Companies in America."

I don't know where you live, but cable options are in many places extremely limited and if the one or maybe two high speed providers decide to start metering there's basically fuckall you can do about it.

In my area the only broadband provider is Comcast. I live in a city of over 850,000 people. Your other option is AT&T's DSL service.

Most of the time the reason that there is only two providers is because one of the two companies contracted themselves with the government to only allow one other company in the city, which is totally legal and "allows for competition"

Leave them in a bust cross section like the middle of the mall or one of the lanes at the port, they are great for Jumpers when you don't want to wait, place one on the tower in Tower Control, and revenge splats.

Revenge kill insurance policy. I drop one every time I make contact for peak suicide bombing. If you have friendly ink to maneuver in and a point the other guy is likely to cross then drop & bait can be effective especially on the other side of the map.

Yeah, dropping them and falling back is pretty effective. The problem is that there's enough of a lag between activation and detonation that unless the target is distracted, it's pretty easy to get out of the kill zone. Maybe try dropping them when you get into a fight? That way when it detonates it should take them out too, or at least cover up the enemy ink you create on death.

I did the last Kraken challenge as a way of getting back in after a week of inactivity. It was fun! The only part of the Octavio fight that gave me trouble was the very last bit, and that was because there was so much going on that I missed the big missile. Otherwise, I was Kraked out the whole time. :v:

The Hero Shot Replica's okay. Don't much like burst bombs, and a rotation with long, sniper-friendly maps like bridge and port was probably the worst place to test out a medium-range shooter, but I liked it even though I was outranged a few times. Got a few people with the bomb rush, too. That must sting. :smuggo:

Oh yeah, the regular slosher's great. The tri-slosher is a little faster, though, and I think that's what drew me to it. The bubbler is super useful when pushing, too.

Does damage up affect slosher shots in any way? I was running it with a shirt that had main ink up and three damage up subs, but I was wondering if I needed to.
