Out of all the right wing memes, I will never, never, never, never get tired of "liberals are the real racists." Especially because they so often imply that black people don't know what's good for them by voting democrat.

Which, by the way

Is racist

Seriously, this guy used the term "black fools" while insulting the democratic party for being racist. I mean, gently caress, Donald Trump is in the lead still, maybe that's why non-white people don't want to vote republican. Maybe, just MAYBE, the parties have shifted over the last decade. IT COULD VERY WELL BE POSSIBLE, JUST THROWING OUT IDEAS HERE

It's the weakest argument the republicans have, and they keep using it, because they really truly think that black people don't vote for republicans because they're dumb.

Which again

Is racist

The whole "historically Democratic idea" thing always strikes me as a bit weird, too. If I'm remembering right, some time in the last 100 years or so, the general leanings of Democrats and Republicans basically completely flipped.

Right. It mostly happened in the 60s with the Kennedy (D) and Johnson (D, who doesn't get enough credit) administrations supporting civil rights. Johnson was even from the south, but even before he was the vice president he was in favor of civil rights. Nixon (R) realized he could win over southern states by being just racist enough, and that's the super, super oversimplified version. It's a pretty interesting subject.

Most people don't understand the political shifts that happened in early/mid 20th century that led to what we have now and they're certainly not going to start. From claiming MLK was republican so republicans can't possibly be racists to Abe Lincoln himself singlehandedly stopping slavery with an axe in one hand and a pistol in the other.

A bunch of Southern Democrats left their party during the Civil Rights era and went Republican, although the South by and large stayed mostly Democrat until the 80's and 90's. My state didn't get a Republican governor until the late 90's and the most racist state ever, Mississippi got its first Republican leader in the early 90's.

Not to say Democrats weren't better, because they were. But it's not as easy as saying GOP racist/Democrats not. Everyone was pretty loving racist.

Prester Jane (formerly Prestor John) has a thread on authoritarians like sovereign citizens, fundamentalist Christians, and other nuts who are common in right-wing circles. One of the important things to take away from the discussion is that while the Democrats cut ties with left-wing radicals like anarchists around the 60s, the Republicans instead tried to court the right-wing radicals for votes (especially Nixon and after). This resulted in the current dynamic where the GOP has gradually become more and more controlled by the crazier side of conservatism like the Tea Party until we've finally reached the point where an openly racist fascist is the current front runner for the Republicans. The left-wing radicals weren't given the room to gain power like the right-wing ones, which is why you don't hear anything about an open Stalinist courting votes at the DNC.

This is why very old school Republicans like Eisenhower or John Lindsay (former mayor of NYC through the 60s and 70s) are downright moderate compared to the current cream of the crop. Lindsay was even supportive of increasing the number of black-owned businesses in Harlem, something you'd never imagine any of the GOP presidential candidates trying to do.

Well, Gunnerkrigg Court's decided to sink ships and hook Annie up with Jack, it seems. Interest completely hit rock bottom. Thanks, Tom!
Oh good, generic straight romance #2,405,120. Yawn. No Kat/Annie End, no reading. Jack's the least interesting male since Chiba Mamoru.
And to Tom: gently caress you for not taking a god drat chance, you cowardly loving bitch. "Nope. Everyone has to be straight!" gently caress you.
Remember the lesson GCC teaches us: Be straight, otherwise your peers won't like you. #GunnerkriggCourt #fuckingasshole #badendconfirmed
Now I definitely need to get to work on writing a guide because otherwise the urge to strange that cowardly little prick won't go away.
Yeah, can't do it. Hey @gunnerkrigg - good job sinking ships and ruining the comic, you weak god drat writer.
@gunnerkrigg Can't have the main characters be bi/gay, right? That's for the two designated 'weirdo' characters, huh? gently caress you, you prick.
@gunnerkrigg No, really, it's nice of you to have a 'please stop reading now' arc. Real considerate of you.
@gunnerkrigg - proving that making a bi/gay character the lead isn't worth the trouble. You're really breakin' down barriers there, Tom.
Hey kids: If you're gay, you should be off where you can't be seen. You must be straight. Remember the lessons that @gunnerkrigg taught us.
loving makes me sick. Great, one more generic straight romance with a bland male lead. Good job @gunnerkrigg you loving coward.
Need to go watch @GeorgeTakei say/do things to calm down. Stupid anti-gay bullshit ruining my morning. Off to Youtube I go...

Really. I'm going to start magically liking Jack and the fact that Tom's ensured we won't get anything resembling a Kat/Annie end?

Great, one more boring-rear end straight romance. Tons of potential lost and for what? Because Tom didn't feel like taking any chances. That's for the two designated 'weird' kids in the comic, huh? Can't have the main characters interested in each other, despite all the little hints (and sometimes not so little ones) dropped all over the place. Must make them straight, boring, and ensure they wind up with the worst characters in the comic.

Yeah, tell me what there is to look forward to with this couple, hoss. You seem to be all for it. Jack's the most boring lead in any romance since Chiba Mamoru from Sailormoon. :) There's not a single interesting (or redeeming) thing about him and yet it's looking increasingly like Annie's going to end up with him.

Because straight people, that's why. God forbid GCC take a chance with anything. Nope, must conform to the status quo and leave that gay poo poo to the weirdo characters, right?

Yeah, no. gently caress you and gently caress Tom. I guess it's nice he made a 'please stop reading my webcomic, it's becoming like any other teen romance strip' arc though. Real considerate-like. Always good to see straightforward, boring fuckin' romance blooming. And at the end, they'll have a kid, Annie'll die, and Kat'll be there to talk about the kid's adventures in the school or some other stereotypically generic thing. Because the kids must be like the parents, always and forever.
