Advanced Diamond Frog technique: take on 250 tons of palladium, abandon mission and sell back to the station, repeat. Legit missions carry fines and they can run into the millions based on the value and amount of cargo. In universe, you're committing outright fraud and skipping town leaving the faction holding the bag (and it actually weakens them influence wise) A week later your millions in fines become millions in bounties! And that is why this game is a Han Solo simulator.

I hope their future approach to huge weapons has something substantial to help distinguish the style of combat a bit for ships that mount them. Getting sucked back into an eternity of gimballed lasers because that's the utilitarian path of least resistance would be incredibly meh.

Edit: got sniped by patch chat. That all looks fantastic! I'm thinking about starting Power Play w/ ALD this weekend, either in a vulture or a federal assault ship, depending on how much dough I stack up before getting bored of space trucking and deciding to do murder. Anyone have experience with either of those ships in PP? I have no clue how to fit for pve and potential pvp at the same time Unsinkabear fucked around with this message at 01:36 on Feb 5, 2016 |

It sounds like they are giving us a bunch of pretty text/pictures around what may be basically the same mission system. I don't think anyone was asking for "I really think this station should treat me with the respect I deserve!" but the devs seem like that is the most important thing ever. Well, maybe the grognards in the brown sea were asking for it, but that really is a counterargument for if it should be done. I'd rather hear that they are fixing the broken missions, giving us better control over what missions we can take, adding more interesting mission types, increasing the (non-exploit) rewards, etc.

Where I just replied...but posts there are lost like tears in the rain. And no, it's not worth it, your basic Cobra Mk III is much better. Get Horizons if you're really into landing on planets, but there's no real gameplay/power advantage to it just yet. That may change with the 2.1 crafting stuff, but that can wait, and it'll only get cheaper.

I'm officially pumped for 2.1, E:D has been missing good gamefeel for a long time, giving npcs faces and generally expanding the way missions work is just the ticket, filling out the weapons variety a bit is also one of those things that's been missing since before I started playing the game. It strikes me that they probably wanted a lot of these features (like more huge weapons to go with the new ships) in the initial release of horizons, but ran out of time to get it as a tandem release with 1.5 before the year was out. I mostly think this is the case because Horizons really felt lackluster in terms of non-essential features and extras right at release, but the promised post-release content kept me interested.

Best as I can tell is that the Cobra Mk. 4 (if not mining) is also a cheap entry level freighter since you can easily pack on over 50 cargo units without breaking a sweat. It is absolutely NOT a combat ship, despite the highly misleading and very well placed 5 hardpoints. Man, if it had a better power distributor or better turning or better speed (just any one of those) it would be really decent DancingShade fucked around with this message at 08:12 on Feb 5, 2016 |

The problem was it was probably confusing to some people. The way it appeared was that you needed to buy the base game and then buy Horizons. I mean you got a discount if you did so. What the change appears to be is that there won't be two things called Elite: Dangerous on the Steam store. Just one item you need to buy. Sure, the season pass for Horizons gives you access to all the Horizons content too, and the price change makes sure that you get Horizons at a discounted price over what it costs now. The discounted price right now with the loyalty discount is approximately £29.99. It looks like the new system will have Season 3 being standalone. You won't need Horizons for Season 3. The extra £5 is for the Gold Asp Paint.

I haven't touched any Horizons content yet - I'm assuming that surface stuff is going to be tied in with Engineers at least in some respect so I'm waiting until 2.1 before getting involved with it - and I'm fairly OK with my purchase right now because I basically ended up paying an extra £5 for a ton of cosmetics. Of course all the 2.1 stuff could be total crap but I'm at least a tiny bit optimistic this time

I wonder how that steam change will effect those people who bought E:D base just for the cheap horizons and then did a refund on steam. Maybe they'll get horizons removed and then somehow have to explain to Frontier why they don't also have the base game in their steam library? oops, haha.

Well before now Horizons always included the base game, indeed it would be possible to own Elite just by having purchased Horizons, no refund shenanigans required.
