Just had a Viper move, tongue grab, and then coil (for three damage, when did it get bumped up?) all in one turn. Kinda BS on that one.

Is Major a rank? Because this game needs a Major Major 'Major' Major.

Goodnight, sweet prince.

Seriously, that was one hell of a mission. gently caress all of these high health monsters that are showing up. Two Grenadiers is literally a necessity, one to blow everything the hell up and shred and another to suppress holo-target. I'm amazed I only got out of that with one wound (a 2 health Specialist, but worth it because she disabled the Sectopod for 2 turns while I took care of the Shieldbearers). What you didn't see was the completely empty wasteland of all the cover that was blown up.

Not only doesn't it have an aim penalty, but the fuckers you're shooting at effectively have zero cover. Always break Concealment with overwatch

I've never actually failed a mission because of timers. It just forces you to play at a reasonable pace.

All of my failures were timer related. :shobon:

Also, the soldier I created in my image died on his first mission to friendly fire from a panic stricken grenadier. So long furnaceface, may your plaid toque and smiley face rifle line the entrance to the hall of shame from now until wars end. :canada:

For everyone saying to get flashbangs, you dont get those until later and that second tutorial mission can really gently caress you if someone gets mind controlled. It was a great source of anger for me last night. Now I just need to stop encountering weird LOS issues.

I'm getting stuck in that loop where I start a campaign, then restart it if the first couple missions don't go perfectly

I am not made for this kind of game :( (I'd select Ironman, but this game is glitchy enough that I don't trust it)

It was either that or losing the whole Blacksite mission.

You were straight in the middle of my almost dead squad. The Sectoid that MC'd you was 2 tiles too far for a frag, behind high cover and I was all out of Flashbangs.
There was no other way...
Well at least I got to gently caress some poo poo up before the end. :black101:

Well that was my first failed mission! Heavy turret, first Vipers (three in all), first shield guy, officers and troopers with like double health. What a miserable mission. Lost one of my grenadiers (he was the one with Run and Gun), three of my other four down to one or two pips of health. Revealed a pod that was two Vipers, a Muton, and an Officer and nope'd the gently caress out of there.

Does Xcom 2 still do that thing where in Multiplayer it will always use your mic(including my built in webcam) no matter what, forcing you to broadcast your room noises out to whoever you are fighting? God knows how many strangers had to hear me talking with my roommate or obnoxiously singing along to music before I learned it was doing that.

The thing about words is that meanings can twist just like a snake, and if you want to find snakes, look for them behind words that have changed their meaning.

Discovered this by accident: you can hover over one of the icons in the lower left hand of the screen, near the name of the current actor: usually the debuffs will appear as red arrows, and hovering over them will tell you what the debuff does.

The point is that it takes away choices from the player and enforces one type of playstyle.

If people want to turtle, they should be able to turtle, at the expense of things like elerium containers that disappear after a certain number of turns.

The developers should encourage certain playstyles using rewards and incentives, rather than punishments. Positive reinforcement > negative reinforcement.

You can, and should, just buy it on Steam and play it for ~two hours (which should be 2-3 missions) to see if you are fine with the timer. I didn't like them but I'm glad I tried the game out at least.

After starting 10 or so times to try to get europe as a starting area I was wondering if it was possible.

Looking under defaultgamedata.ini there is the following:

PossibleStartingRegions="WorldRegion_WestNA"
PossibleStartingRegions="WorldRegion_SouthNA"
PossibleStartingRegions="WorldRegion_NorthAF"
PossibleStartingRegions="WorldRegion_EastAF"
PossibleStartingRegions="WorldRegion_SouthAF"
PossibleStartingRegions="WorldRegion_EastAS"
PossibleStartingRegions="WorldRegion_WestAS"
PossibleStartingRegions="WorldRegion_NorthAS"
PossibleStartingRegions="WorldRegion_SouthAS"

Europe is not set. Any idea for why this is?

Does something important happen in Europe later in the game?

Process of elimination. More than Europe (South America and Oceania) is not on that list, so what do they all have in common? Only two territories.

No. Research Resistance Communications and you'll open up connection slots. These let you fly to the grey'd out countries and establish contact. (after scanning in the new country for a few days)

This costs intel, and will cost more intel based on the distance from radio towers. (which you can build in areas you have contact)

I swear once my concealment was broken even when the game said it wouldn't be. Might have to do with the increased alien vigilance dark event that was active. That one sucks so hard.

Also isn't there supposed to be a way to see what units you'll be able to shoot after you make a move? I can't figure it out.

Fister Roboto

The argument that the mission timers discourage careful planning and tactics is bullshit anyway, since it's a turn based game. You can spend all day planning out the perfect move if you want. What people are really upset about is not being able to crawl around the battlefield at one tile per turn and then hunker until the enemy does something stupid.

Yes. Mouseover the spot you want to move to. You'll see tiny target symbols over enemies you can shoot from there. Appears next to their health bars.

Four people left behind on first blacksite. One cut corner on the last move led to getting grenaded and burning to death. And then I got it in my head to haul their corpses home, only to find 3 sectoids in the back of the building after the codex group. Today I learned you only get like a 70% to hit on zombies sharing your tile.

There's a mod on steam that extends those timers by 2-4 turns depending on mission type for non story missions. Gives a little extra breathing room on coincidentally hellish procedurally generated maps.

Also I just on the last turn of a computer before lockdown on my last move on my last soldier discovered that I can use the gremlin to hack from a distance. :swoon:
