Yeah, concealment is not for that. That's a trap. I actually read some guy John Teasdale's IGN article on XCOM2 and he expressly warned against doing that because, well, that would happen. So instead I use concealment to clean up the first pod I run into swiftly and cleanly.

I stayed completely dark (in concealment? :haw:) on the game until launch, so I'm being delightfully blindsided at every turn.

I made it out with only two casualties!

Somehow the last trooper survived two rounds of panic :monocle:

First run out with exo, after engaging first squad out of concealment, she triggers a muton pack right around the corner on my final move from cover to cover, on the opposite side of the building from them :cripes:

Then she panics from taking one damage and flees into the building :cripes:

If there is a single brick missing from the wall it counts as half cover and you can get spotted or pulled through it.

My game locked up on alien activity in iron man, and reloading the next save has me unable to do anything (I can't even tell whose turn it is). Is there anything I can do or is that campaign lost?

EDIT: The save in question https://www.dropbox.com/s/cl9nw7j3danu0np/save6?dl=0&preview=save6

If someone can load it up and actually get it to a turn, and reupload it, I'd appreciate it. Figure it'll give you the same problem though.

Skulljacking an officer seems really difficult, especially knowing what happens after. In EU we had it lucky, the aliens were just sitting there in nice small rooms waiting to be stunned...

Not that I have seen. I eventually beat it (With HEAVY losses) by positioning like 3 snipers back by the ramp and squadsight sniping the loving spike.

I know XCom is meant to be difficult but Jesus Christ it's getting ridiculous. I've just suffered four defeats in a row because I cannot keep up with the aliens. I never had this much trouble in the first game but holy poo poo I cannot catch a single break. I'm almost tempted to reduce the difficulty down to easy. I won't do it but I want to because I feel like Normal in XCom 2 is equivalent to Classic and I never managed to beat Classic.

It has happened to me while standing in brand new floors, so probably not that.

More than twice so far. Once I triggered a pod by being next to a dude, then swording him from the exact same angle/location. Pod appears, yay!

Edit 2: I managed to avoid the dark event of being tracked by a UFO! I mean, I WAS being tracked, and then it went away at the end of the month. Posted this earlier in the thread, there's a fix for this. Game uses X-axis as FOV constraint which causes a ton of screen estate to be chopped off. It can be changed.

Locate XComEngine.ini in My Documents/my games/XCOM2/XComGame/Config and change the aspect ratio lock from X to Y

Change this:

AspectRatioAxisConstraint=AspectRatio_MaintainXFOV

To:

AspectRatioAxisConstraint=AspectRatio_MaintainYFOV

I have no idea why this setting isn't the default.

I can't believe how badly I'm getting hosed :psyduck: Three failed hacks in a row on a turret and two mecs? Check! I go 80%+ mission accuracy due to careful use of flanking and cover destruction, but when it really counts and one roll can ruin me? Yeeeep. Love it.

Is there some way to tell if someone is in line of fire for overwatch? I lost a spider armor trooper to an enemy three floors below on the other side of a bunch of cover when I tried to move in to the building, away from the trooper.

If you have the LOS crosshair on an enemy, that means that they can hit you with overwatch. If you're trying to maneuver around overwatch, use the waypoints to be sure that every step is safe.

Make that four failed hacks :shepface:

Think this is going to be a failed outing, unless the rookies can tackle an advent facility.

How do you use waypoints?

Also how far into the realm of statistically improbable am I falling. I'm whiffing shots left right and center on this mission against targets with no cover :psyduck:

The difficulty is badly balanced. XCOM1 gave you a linear progression of basic easy-to-kill enemies, all the way to the big nasty fuckers with a few little surprises tossed in to keep you on your toes (Sectoid Commanders, Cyberdiscs, Muton Beserkers, etc). It also gave you infinite Rookies to cram into the meatgrinder until a squad of hardened motherfuckers came out. XCOM2 for some insane reason shoves you up against Sectoids that are Ethereals in all but name and can actually eat some decent damage, and Vipers that can pull your guys out of safety and crush them to death in a single turn. And these are your standard enemies right from the start before the game eventually goes for much less bullshit opponents like second-tier Advent Troopers and Mutons. It's a stupid wall that does unnecessary damage to what should be the time in the game spent building up your very limited forces and resources.

Also wow is the writing bad. Just hit the Blacksite Foundry and... they're turning people into Advent Troopers enmasse? But... we already knew this. Bradford himself says this right in the tutorial mission, and Dr. Tygan says the same during their dissection.

Gotta love your squad's badass hero :allears:.

That reminds me, I had one guy myself. Just joined after being found out in the ruins and he went on his first mission to go kill the first Advent Facility. The mission went well but during the escape he kinda lagged behind a little so he had multiple Mutons and Sectoids targeting his rear end and got left for dead as a distraction while the squad extracted.

Pictured; the reason XCOM soldiers wear brown pants as standard.

The Wolfman ignored all that and came home :black101:.

Also a general thing on the difficulty due to the lack of abundant Rookies;

In XCOM1, this would mean you sent your B-team out to die for a mission or two. in XCOM2, you pray like mad that nothing happens because you don't HAVE a B-Team. Or anyone else, for that matter.

Really hoping there will be some technical patch that fixes the inordinate pauses between actions. And hopefully that or a mod to add the F1-Info back so you can see what this or that dude is rocking. There are a few things that should be in the UI but aren't.

I know why there are pauses is so overwatches all trigger one at a time and for multiple enemies but the way its implemented means the game processes and thinks out everything and then lets you see it. I have seen soldiers go into permanent slow mo or never actually fire a gun forcing a reload.

And one time, that kind of save reload crashed my game and corrupted a save.

If I go into Concealment after losing it, is there any way for my Ranger to get off an over watch shot? It seems that she gets detected on the first Advent move that flanks her, but won't shoot until the move after that, but by that time the enemy would rather shoot a flanked soldier rather than move again and get shot instead.
