Is there a solution for the game crashing (or not even starting) on launch?

On that note I'm spending an inordinate amount of time "upgrading" my soldiers' appearance as they level up, and compose a suitably in character epitaph for when they eventually get dropped. As Rookies they have basic resistance armour; Squaddies earn class appropriate colours and loosely co-ordinated clothing. One higher level than that they earn the right to have a hat, etc etc. It's an incredibly loving nerdy level of continuity but I love it so much.

My only rule is that outside of character pool soldiers I won't touch their physical customization beyond hair/tattoos/scarring.

Hey, what's up red ranger/green grenadier buddy. :haw:

Thats probably the best way to have it. Though I can't wait for the inevitable "increase your stats around the base by assigning your soldiers to rooms to practice" mod.

Still not working, I am still here trying to reverify and assuming that support services do not work on weekends.

Every time I start up the game, it discards my video settings in favor of what I presume are the (very low quality) default settings. It's not just resolution; it's discarding options like v-sync as well. Has this been happening to anyone else? And is there a fix for it?

That is hilarious.

So, if for some odd reason you lose your GTS, you do lose the tactics you've researched until you build another one, just in case anyone was wondering or anything.

Oh it's gonna happen one way or the other, pal.

 This games an rear end in a top hat.

(Operation Black Tears)
I played the original xcom and the long war. First VIP mission in this game I take 3 of my best guys and a recruit to level him. Only 15(?) turns to get to VIP and evac, ok that's doable. Set my sniper up and ambush a group of 3 jerks killing them all. Then a sectoid group triggers. I spend 2 turns fighting them while trying to move into the building, lost 1 recruit RIP. Blew a hole in the wall then hacked the door. Walk outside into 2 new groups and 2 turrets...Down to 3 turns, can't call in evac on me and the evac zone is probably 3 turns away with turrets in the way and a sectoid group. So lost the entire squad. They killed my sniper and turned him into a zombie who then killed a panicked hacker. Then they mind controlled my ranger and ran out of time.

(Operation Senseless Mother)
Now I thought I was doing OK a couple weeks after that cluster gently caress. Got a mission to raid a convoy. I roll up in there with my best squad because I know this game don't gently caress around. I find a trooper and officer and figure this is a great time to do the skulljack poo poo they are complaining to me about. I set everyone up and it goes ok. Except my overwatches missed the trooper and then the codex pops up(had no idea about this). Luckily I had a backup plan in case of crazy poo poo. My ranger tosses a flashbang on the codex and trooper. The trooper then runs up next to my hacker and puts 3 dmg on him and the codex finishes him off from a mile away behind a tree.
I them move my ranger up to get a shot on the codex and triggers a loving snake with a shock trooper. The snake pulled my heavy from across the entire loving lake and triggers a sectoid group. Mmhmm. A shock trooper brings my ranger to 1 HP(Thank god for nanoscale) and disorients her. My sniper blows up the snake trying to mate with my heavy. At this point I said gently caress it and dropped an evac point on my surrounded 1hp ranger. Sprinted my heavy there and evaced him. My sniper was out of points. The entire map overwatches in range of the evac point and my sniper runs through all of them and made it away.

Now my entire team is gravely wounded and I have 1 recruit and supplies for only 1 more. I think I lost.

This game has so many neat little touches. Getting to rescue captured squaddies if you leave them behind, posters with your troops' faces on them, seeing your guys wander round the base etc.

Even nice little things like when you overwatch shoot an enemy and miss, they do a little "cover their head" animation.

Not yet, though they sold the preorder pack for EU after about a month.

On losing all your soldiers, if you have enough Doom Bars left, you can totally just chill for a month or two in this game and ignore missions. The Resistance won't be happy, but it's not like EU where they'll shutter your base and give you a game over.

Doing a mission to protect a transmitter. All my squad is miraculously alive and only 1 sectoid left to kill. He's behind a trash can giving him full cover and has only 3 HP left, but it's the end of the mission so I run a rookie out into the open to flank and kill. I try to line up the shot only to find that the 3 spaces of EMPTY loving AIR are somehow preventing it and he cannot shoot the sectoid.

Whatever. Grenade, boom, win, leave.

Also regarding the little stuttering here and there. Does anyone who's install the game on an SSD have those? Little pauses and stutters when performing actions, like when jumping through a window or whatever?

The number it shows is how many actions they lost, so Stun 1 means they lost half a turn, Stun 4 means they lost two.

No Squadsight penalties, which eliminates the aim and crit penalties from squadsight. This is already a super mobile game, and honestly sharpshooters need a little bit of a buff as is.

Exactly.
This definitely seems to be lacking in games considered "in-depth".

Player influence is always something that games should account for, kind of like how too many head-shots would lead to soldiers wearing bulletproof helmets in MGSV.

Having one enemy run at normal speed while everything else slows down during an overwatch ambush looks really silly.

Edit: Sharpshooters are amazing when geared up. My main sniper has like 70 kills at this point, 20 more than the next one.

I'm having a hard time enjoying this game. I feel like the normal difficulty level (Veteran) is too intense, and the Rookie setting is far too easy. I'd love something in between the two settings. This is coming from someone who's completed XCOM and Enemy Within multiple times on Commander difficulty. I keep coming back, but the losses you take on Veteran are so punishing, especially early on when you only have 4 squad members active. All it takes is one stun stick guy and your team can be totally screwed. I don't think XCOM 1 was nearly this punishing. I've started the campaign over twice now, having had all my decent guys get obliterated on the first retaliation mission (where the aliens attack a resistance camp). You have to save 6 people and kill the attacking aliens, but I can never get more than 3 before my team is obliterated. After that the rookies you're left with are just not good enough to continue the campaign with. Really frustrating.
