What the gently caress. A snake just moved, tongue-pulled, and bound my sniper in one turn. Same mission weird poo poo with healing meant a snake one-shot a person who had more than 4 health with a 4 damage shot.

Heads up people that are installing mods, if you disable a mod you cannot load a save that had it enabled. What mods you install you are stuck with for the entire playthrough, it's really lovely and pretty much the exact opposite of every game i have ever modded.

So how long do rumors stick around on the geoscape? Im trying to scan something so I can get a new engineer but Bradford just told me theres a "time-sensitive mission" to blow up some tower somewhere and as far as I'm aware theres no way to tell how long either one will last.

I really want that engineer, trying to build up my base with all of one guy is loving awful.

Welp I had a huge setback in my game, probably enough to start over. On one of the retaliation missions, I ran into 3 of the mutons, one of my guys panicked and threw a grenade at 2 of my other guys that were stupidly huddled together. Then one of the mutons also threw a grenade at them so at that point they were both pretty close to dead. To add insult to injury, I also had just skulljacked one of the guys:

A codex appeared, cloned itself and disabled the weapons for a bunch of my guys

I thought I had killed everything and then a faceless appears, at this point I'm down to my final guy which I tried to evac out, misclicked and moved OUT of the evac zone and then the faceless killed me. I basically lost 6 dudes in the span of 3 minutes.

Also have fun if a mod ever changes it's name, some people are saying that free camera rotation mod has pretty much borked a buncha saves now because the mod name was changed some, so trying to load a save that's running off the old name or something causes it to just have a fit and refuse.

Hitting the black site will knock two bars off of the Avatar project, which can fill up again as normal. If it hits twelve bars again then you start the two to three week countdown all over again and need to make sure you have something you can hit to take bars off the clock (such as an alien facility).

So then, im in a situation now where iv basically got 3 or so bars to go on project avatar before it starts the doomsday clock, im currently rushing any contacts I can get but I'm a couple days away from a radio facility I need to spread out (god drat I wish i knew what I was doing when i first started making contact with no rhyme or reason to it).

Is it more sensible then to wait for the 3 bars to fill up, then wait for the doomsday clock to be a couple days left and then raid a blacksite? That way I can calmly use those doomsday weeks to actually get my poo poo in order.

I have never modded a game and had uninstalling a mod flat out render the savegame unavailable. If you are extremely poo poo at modding Skyrim you can brick your save, but not have it flat out be unavailable by design in a game touted to be mod friendly lol, give me a break.

You want to do the mission during Doomsday countdown because you effectively get a free week or two instead of none.

Uh, no they aren't. At least later on they're amazing and necessary when you have a ton of armor to shred off.

Chain Gun sounds bad but its basically a dedicated 'kill Sectopod/MEC/Andromedon/Gatekeeper'' button since they have gently caress all defense and your second shot benefits from shredding the armor with your first. You can also get up to +25 aim between tracer rounds and a superior scope which is great.

High rank grenadiers can rain down more death and destruction in a single turn than any other class in the game thanks to Salvo and Volatile mixture as well. When Im at squad 6 I run with one of each class and two grenadiers because destroying cover and armor is so important. Also both trees have an amazing ability to gently caress poo poo up (Always get Shredder thougb)

Yeah, waiting for the clock to fill up and then letting the days go by is a good bet, it'll give you the time you need to get set up.

For some reason, the game suddenly tanks itself down to single digit frame rates, outta nowhere.
When I look on MSI afterburner, it seems like the card is throttling down to 135 MHz, which it doesn't do on any other game.
I went into NVIDIA control panel to set power mgmt to "max," but it's still doing this bullshit.
GPU is a 970, drivers are current, CPU is a 2500K OC'd to 4.4, so it SHOULD be running well.
Any ideas?

Great game so far, my man Zackarie Attacke is getting the job done. Seems a bit harder than the last one, or it just drops you in the thick of it faster before you have the cooler stuff. Panicking rookies galore.

Question, are civilians on the map that aren't in the objectives of any use? Can you rescue them or anything? I saw a few civilians off to the side once in either the second or third mission, died, played it again and won but didn't run into any civilians.

Also in the first VIP escort mission, I notice "bad" civilians, some scientisty guy with a red circle around him who keeps walking away when I go near them. Should I kill them? (Assuming they might do bad stuff)

I can run the original XCOM very smoothly on high settings, but this one requires me to turn down the graphics to the point where it looks worse than the first game if I want to have stable performance. Is there some .ini trick or setting that I don't know about that is making this game perform so badly?

It's been that way since the very first X-Com game, terrain destruction being weird nonsensical bullshit is pretty much a tradition at this point. I think it's more that the previous games usually didn't put objectives in/next to suff that can blow up.

So, each Avatar building starts off being worth one pip on the timer. You can see it next to each building, and also next to the indicator in the ocean. Any Avatar building, including the ocean indicator, will provide additional pips over time, advancing the doomsday clock. Doing story advancement stuff will just remove pips. Also, destroying a building will reduce the pips by the number of pips it's providing, so technically it's somewhat advantageous to let a building get to at least two pips before you take it down. More bang for your mission, risk, and time bucks. You can keep it at bay for a long time, but there's no way that I've found to remove pip advancement on the main indicator in the ocean, so there's a hard limit that will catch up to you eventually.

Also, a note on the skulljacking. When they ask you to skulljack things, be careful. When they ask you to keep skulljacking other things, HOLY poo poo be careful.

You mean unlike the TES/Fallout games by Bethesda, AKA the most moddable games? Because while some of them are okay with taking mods out, it can result ina pile of bugs and Skyrim loving hates you and your entire family if you try to load a save without all the ms enabled.

I'm kind of surprised it's not like "hey are you sure you want to do this?" but i'm also not super surprised. Besides, you should always keep seperate saves as you try out new mods.

Iron Rose, are you having any issues with the mod tools? It keeps saying it can't find some necessary component when I try to open them. I'm thinking this might be because they're in two different locations, because I put the game proper on my SSD but not the tools. I think I might need to move the game over the my not SSD because it feels like the SSD isn't helping much either.

I think you get story advancement for completing specific objectives. So far, I've just gotten them from skulljacking objectives, of which I think there are just two, but I haven't done the special missions you get from the resulting research and stuff. Oh! I forgot dark events. There's a dark event that just advances the doom clock, so keep an eye out for that if you want to stretch for time.
