Pham Nuwen posted:So does welfare pay into a 401k? Because that seems like a big loving hole in the plan right there. To me, it's the institutionalism effect and partly not really knowing the importance of a 401K or saving money beyond what you want to buy tomorrow. There is a belief, I suppose, in that the welfare system will take care of you to the end. And maybe that's true to some degree, because that is what they see. They see their parents and grandparents still in the system and still receiving a check or whatever, and think (in different terms) 'That is my 401K, why do I need to save?' whether out of ignorance or simply gaming the system.

So my shitbox Mazda's a lot less smoky these days, at least on startup... a goon had suggested Liqui-Moly and it seems like that may have done some good? Whatever the reason, it used to blow massive clouds of oil smoke whenever I started it, and now it only does that sometimes and with less volume. Even if I get smoke on startup, by the time the choke turns off it isn't smoking anymore. I can drive around and there's no smoke. But if I drive it for more than a few minutes, it starts to blow smoke out the tailpipe again. Not as thick as on a bad startup, but it'll definitely leave a trail of thin whitish-blue smoke. My uneducated guess is that there's a bunch of oil and poo poo in the exhaust and especially the cat, and once the cat gets hot it starts burning that poo poo off. Does that seem feasible?

Those people keep getting richer and richer while the middle class shrinks. This isn't about professionals. This is about extremely rich people whose ancestor got lucky and they are able to use their extreme wealth to grow their wealth more and the expensive of everyone else. They're leeches. If you make $500,000, I don't really care (but you could afford to pay more taxes, poo poo so could I). If you measure you net worth in hundreds of millions or billions, you're probably part of the problem. Sure we have examples of mostly self-made people who actually did something useful like Bill Gates (though his father was very wealthy), but most of them are Donald Trump (inherited wealth, pretends it isn't) or hedge fund assholes.

His actual salary would have been 58,273 before taxes, etc. quote:Second, income inequality isn't the term that should be used. It is wealth inequality. I'm all for simplifying the tax code and saying 'if you earn this, you pay this, done.'. But the majority of the income the wealthy have is generated in weird and strange ways to get around being taxed (or taxed much much later). And there is no way the tax code is going to be changed/simplified because too many jobs and money depend on the tax code being a mess. Simplify it and all those jobs go away.

And yeah, there can still be fraud for disability and unreported income, and there certainly is, but that's fraud and should be reported. You'll never have a system free of fraud. When the new turbo went on, for about 2 weeks the thing would smoke like a bastard every time i wailed on it going up a hill and got the EGT's right up and started to burn it off. I just thrashed the guts out of it for a day or two and it obviously either coated all the oil with diesel soot and stopped it burning or burnt it all off.

Well so much for sleeping in tomorrow - got a text from the market manager for Dining In asking if I could work a double tomorrow. I was already planning on going in early tomorrow since ~superbowl~, but she threw out an offer for a $25 gas card right off the bat. I think I've talked myself into getting a second car - I've liked the Panthers for a long time, and a Town Car looks pretty attractive for a cruiser. Also for when I work for Amazon, since they keep giving me stupidly big orders that I can barely fit in the Saturn. Plus just something stupidly huge for cruising around in sounds like a good idea. iwentdoodie posted:Also, I just had groceries delivered for the first time ever. That feels loving weird. I qualify for food stamps and a subsidized phone, but I'd rather leave that stuff for people who need it more. Truth be told I'll probably pull in closer to 35-40k this year between the 3 jobs I have now, but my actual income for 2015 was 16k.
