This has been done in 2011 and then it looked very different. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxNudEkQ7B4 Are we sure that new video is real? Also: what happens if you put a Portal through the other? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rt4VJy8jCIU

That first video is just on a lower graphical setting, I'm not sure if maxed out would give you the same amount of recursion as the other vid it might require some tweaking, but it definitely shouldn't be blacking out only 1 layer deep.

Also, vertical position vs. horizontal might be a factor.

I'm not sure if this counts as a glitch, but I thought it was pretty funny when it happened.

There's no way in hell that Portal video is real. There's zero reason a game engine would go all fractal like that, at most you'd see a bunch of Z-fighting or clipping inside the character's head.

Enos Shenk posted:There's no way in hell that Portal video is real. There's zero reason a game engine would go all fractal like that, at most you'd see a bunch of Z-fighting or clipping inside the character's head. Portal specifically renders whatever is on the other side of the portals in order to show you what is being seen from that perspective. If you build a portal "tube" between two walls, you'll see dozens of portals stretching out into the infinite. In the initial render, it just clamps the existing room onto the other side of the hole and re-renders, but after that it starts to bake the render to a texture. That's why you get stuff like the arm progressively extending through the hole in the glitch vid. Portal is kinda unique in that regard- most games wouldn't bother actually showing you the other side, but Portal went above and beyond, and because of that there's a lot of edge case awesomeness like this.

There are lots of reasons the engine would go fractal like that. Portal doesn't use an FBO for the contents inside the portal (because FBOs are expensive on your lovely Intel integrated GPU), it renders scene contents from the eye of the portal, and uses a stencil buffer to mask it in the scene. Source also doesn't render scene contents if it thinks you're out of bounds, to save on overdraw. So I would very much expect effects like that, given the bizarre render conditions you've forced the engine into.

So XCOM 2. It does seem to have a lot of glitches, mostly regarding animations, like with diffrent elevations where people going down from the second floor to the first one will fall through the floor of the first floor, bounce off the ground floor and end up where you want them to be. Or the Vipers. Boy did I have a lot of bugs with viper animations, mostly of the one where they coil around the XCOM operative. Gamewise, the soldier is constricted by the big-rear end Snake-thing, they occupy the same space and should have a shared animation. But it's a bit misplaced. EDIT: Here's it in motion: http://webm.host/d59f3/vid.webm Or half motion - all the bugs with Vipers make their animations freeze in place. Kikas has a new favorite as of 02:10 on Feb 8, 2016 |

Mutons behave very badly with some of the terrain during Reprisal Missions, at least when it comes to melee attacks. There are very consistently some structures where you cannot melee attack them at the same z-level as them, you have to be one z-level up and adjacent. This only applies to melee attacks, everything else targets them fine.

Someone wrote that if you mod the mimic beacon (a hologram soldier that fools the aliens) to last more than one turn, sectoids can raise it as a zombie after it's destroyed.

Alas, the alien bugged out and literally just ran towards me forever, but stuck against a shelf or some poo poo. I watched it on/off for several minutes. I finally weighed my options and decided to exit the closet, except as soon as I did, the alien apparently lost interest and started hunting again. Back in the closet I went, and survived.

The fact that he completely botches the shot afterwards just makes it that much funnier. Why do video game glitches always seem to have the best comedic timing?

I'd like to think the shot was missed because the player was laughing too hard. However, knowing video games it would be more likely that an old replay got messed up by later game updates. That's always a great source of hilarious glitches.

This is probably not a bug. Insane characters can target themselves for assassination. This time the insane character in question just also happened to be a spymaster whose job it is to discover such plots.
