Taciturn Tactician posted:Even if the chance is quite low, rolling the dice on your child being permanently brain damaged because you couldn't stop yourself drinking for 9 months is kind of a dickish thing to do, sorry! It takes having two drinks everyday while pregnant for even the mildest symptoms of fetal alcohol syndrome to occur; for the more severe symptoms you need to have at least four drinks everyday. FAS is real and it's bad, but it takes a lot more alcohol to happen than most people think.

I think it's about people bringing pets onto planes in the cabin by having them declared "support animals". But that's kind of a stretch and it would still inexplicably say "airport" instead of "airplane" so I have no idea.

All I know is I'm hungry for mammoth steak and applaud America's airports for perfecting transgenic cloning techniques enough to create a reasonable genetic hybrid of a mammoth. The security may not be the best but let's be fair: neither was Jurassic Park's.

Welcome to the first week of February in... Now, as a reminder, I'm posting cartoons from the past week instead of just picking a cartoonist and doing a dump of all their stuff for that month. 1 Obamacare? What's that? In 2008 it was Hillarycare that was the socialist craze every rightwinger hated. 2 Despite the field seeming fairly crowded, the Republican primary was finished quickly. 3 McCain was not well-received. 4 Not received well at all. 5 What's funny is that, about six months later, conservatives would play up McCain's "moderate" views as a huge boon. 6 Poor lil elephants 7 I dunno why Ramirez brought up the crying thing weeks later. Also: why does Hillary want ham? 8 Ramirez is incapable of drawing a human being. 9 Again, Rudy's weird "put it all on Florida" strategy backfired spectacularly. 10 I dunno if Asay every had a formal name for this character, but in one cartoon she was called "Lara Liberal." I doubt this was the first appearance of Lara, but she was one of Chuck's favorite strawwomen. 11 And he would sit there for another four years, still going nowhere. 12 Obama did something

Time for a Flashback: 1992! First from our friend Tom Toles: Bill Clinton is a good politician, but I wonder how he would do against someone who was as talented at campaigning as he was? Clinton was charming and empathetic, but he got lucky that in both of his national campaigns he was running against a cranky old man. It really helped the "new ideas versus experienced hands" theme that Obama later used so well. Rubio is trying to flip it this year by emphasizing his age while covering up how old his ideas are, while Sanders has some fairly radical ideas that are resonating with the young despite his age. Here's one from Danziger: Of course, Clinton's "charming" personality had a negative side as well. Yet he won despite the many scandals around him. This comic seems to suggest the scandals might actually have helped him- at least they got people talking, while no one cared about Tsongas.
