I don't know but i have about a one in three chance of crashing after missions, it is killing enjoyment of the game right now.

In EU/EW at the very least, the game saved your RNG seed to discourage scumming individual shots. I would not be surprised if XCOM 2 behaves the same way.

I have a pretty good idea how to tackle a second campaign, but yeah, risk management is a thing. You need to learn when to bail on missions, and when to skip missions. The penalties aren't nearly as bad as the WARNING WARNING :siren: would have you believe.

What is unrecoverable is losing all your dudes and their gear repeatedly.

Going into a failure spiral from getting crushed by horrendous rng feels pretty poo poo though. I don't recall that ever happening in XCOM 1 unless I really made stupid moves. Here I'm using all the tools at my disposal and still wiping out.

I fought tooth and nail to hang on after early wipes and the doom clock redlining, and came back from the brink three times, but in the end I simply couldn't keep pace with enemy forces, despite reaching plasma tech. Rookies couldn't handle combat against high end enemies, a single hit would cause a panic spiral, and I couldn't get enough resources to recruit vets in any significant numbers.

With a shot accuracy average of 70%, it's not like I was overwatch creeping and lobbing shots at targets behind hard cover, but when I really really needed those shots to hit or not to get hit, welp, :xcom: That average was closer to 80% before the last few missions that torpedoed that campaign, rookies can't hang with sectopods and whatever that orb of doom is.

I have to give them credit for the difficulty spikes though, I don't think I've ever failed so many missions within steps of the finish (sometimes literally, nothing like losing your final evacuee as he sprints to the evac point and dies to a single overwatch shot because gently caress you).

I also detest how badly you can get hosed by your last soldier move to what you think is a safe space that isn't revealing new los. Nope, you moved to the one square in the middle of your other five troopers that can see through two windows and three floors to another squad of enemies, :rip: your team.

And again for emphasis, I failed every hack from tier 1 to tier 3. That's spectacularly loving poo poo luck.

I was having a run where I had like 20 flawless missions.

Then, an event was ongoing that made enemies easier to detect me. Cue civie rescue mission.

Literally 1 tile forward, I trigger 3 pods of enemies and a faceless.

I lost half my crew, including my maxed out Sniper.

Then the very next mission was a VIP mission which wiped all but 2 units because a grenade blew up the evac roof.

Literally the only thing that was going through my head was "I don't have enough to make another mimic beacon."

This is a UI change that I don't know why they made, since huge health bars were much easier to read in EU/EW and naturally stacked instead of just being one bar with a billion millimeter-sized pips.

ADVENT should get some firewalls on their poo poo, because I just won a relay mission through four consecutive 30-40% capture hacks on two turrets and two MECs and another hack on a squad crit bonus :smuggo:

I was thinking of switching one of my Specialists for a Grenadier right before that fight too, but turns out that that little ol' drone is one of the best new toys XCOM gets. Not to mention the higher aim growth and fantastic Overwatch perks kinda makes them a bit more consistent in drawn-out fights.

Also, I swear this game is stacking the percentages somehow. I can remember a fair amount of aliens shooting past smokescreens and flashbangs, and on the other hand I've managed to pull off some bullshit hacks like the above. poo poo's weird.

Ask me about the shitty opinions I have about Paradox games!

But those are the flags for Denmark, Finland and Iceland.

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned this in about 100 pages but it's sort of sad how few choices of language there are for your soldiers. Even weirder that Australian is an option and there's a northern irish UK choice but no Japan, Nigeria, China or whatever. I really don't like my characters from countries to have american accents. Especially since your tutorial person is Irish!

I savescum entirely so I've not lost any soldiers but man I do feel like they stay wounded for a REALLY long time. I didn't realise that you could make it go faster by building a facility. It's strange that the first game introduces each building and tells you what it does but this one just drops every single one on you at once!

This is pretty much the same voice selection that was in EW, and they probably did the same thing (record US/UK/AU voices, and also voices for various languages the game was localised into, and let everyone use them all).

Ironically enough I really miss Long War's custom voice packs (particularly their Euro and SE Asian accented English packs), but there's already a (woefully incomplete) custom one on the Workshop so eventually there may be more selection.

Hover over your soldier's names when they're selected for their stats.

And before you ask, I don't think you missed anything, I only discovered that because I noticed something faintly popping up when I was moving my cursor and spent a few minutes trying to figure out what I saw before I realized what I was seeing.

I think it's hilarious that unconscious is pretty much a lot worse than flat out death, because it will cripple -two- of your soldiers unless you're resigned to leave the unconscious one for dead.

Or are they supposed to wake up at some point and I just got hosed by the RNG?

This is a brilliant mod that stries a nice balance with timers... it's such a simple idea hat I think it has a lot of merit. Basically as long as your team is still concealed, the timer won't tick down. It's only after enemies are alerted to your presence that you have a time limit.

It's frankly an elegant solution to the issue, and I'm sorta amazed it wasn't a default feature.

I thought EW had Russian? It's just a bizzare thing to me to see Italian and not Japanese I guess. I haven't even SEEN any Italian troopers although I converted my Ukrainian into one. I'm genuinely surprised the game has been made in German, Spanish, French and Italian but not into Russian.

Grab what you can safely, but I have had better luck putting priority on killing the bad guys and just hoping for some of the civies to survive. Flashbangs can be used to "test" for Clayface wannabes.

Embrace failure.

Also realize that your dudes and their stuff is the most valuable thing in the mission most of the time.
