Purchase one less F-35, all welfare fraud problems resolved.

The issue screaming llama is those who are cheating are doing it carefully and intentionally and it's very difficult to find those people. However the more time you spend investigating, the more false positives you return of people who have done nothing wrong and then are totally hosed by having their money taken away for no reason. The harder you work to stop people "cheating" the higher and harder you set the bar for desperate people who really need help to get it.

My university educated friends struggle with centrelink, filling in forms correctly, passing off all the documentation, etc. etc. because of how "hard on cheats" it is, desperately trying to prove every single detail of their lives. I'm sure you can imagine how hard this makes it on people who are mentally unwell, physically or mentally disabled, or simply poor in time or education.

I don't give a gently caress about welfare fraud, because out of all the wastes it is firstly a tiny one, the amount of money we as the australian people are losing to it (compared to things like corporate tax avoidance and the f35 is miniscule). Secondly the people who are defrauding welfare who get cracked down on are the loving poor. Who cares if they get al ittle extra money, they have loving nothing and every dollar they get goes straight into the economy anyway, better they get money they aren't entitled to than you cut off people who are entitled to the money because of false positives and they end up broken on the street.

This isn't loving hard. Welfare is a pittance and if some people are getting more of a pittance than others who the gently caress cares, it's so small as to be not worth enforcing and merely takes them slightly closer to having a living wage.

Very few people are "good at IT" (very few people are "good" at any thing they do), and on these huge scales it's far more likely you'll get a poo poo outcome than not.

You still have to do it some time though.

God I hope we get flatly denied for membership. Maybe then it'll start sinking in.

Also ScreamingLlama you're advocating for terrible breaches of privacy based on the meager NewStart allowance. I'm not sure where this "you get welfare, therefore the government owns you" idea comes from, but if I pulled a sickie, posted a picture of me catching a movie on my (friends only) Facebook and someone from work reported me for it I'd be well within my rights to claim that as a privacy invasion, and yet I make way more than these poor people who would rather pretend not to be married than lose what little money they get.

Some would argue that a person who is disabled due to their own fault (car accident while driving drunk, etc) are just as "not worthy" as an obese person. This is a horrendously slippery slope though and in a fair society what should matter is that you are disabled, not how you got there.

Also once you you introduce blame into any insurance system which our welfare and our healthcare systems are, you gently caress it up. That's why any sane analysis of healthcare does not advocate higher premiums for smokers. Why stop there? Arrest for non-prescription drugs, bad driving record, plays contact sport - you pay more. Yeah I agree with this, just to be clear I think eating disorders and issues with depression etc leading to someone overeating and therefore struggling with everyday life is a valid disability. It's just that Screamingllama is a moron and arguing against apparent welfare fraud, which is such a pitiful amount to be taking from the government anyway, even ignoring the very small percent of people who do it, while claiming disability for something his fellow welfare fraud crusaders would normally dismiss as a disability is stupid. Also a very fat man telling vegans to go gently caress themselves while apparently packing himself full of factory farmed meats to the point he cannot function properly is gross. if he wasn't such an angry boy telling others how to live i would have sympathy for his fat arse but as he likes to poo poo on how others choose to live their lovely lives then i don't see why we can't call him the fat moron that he is.

If David Morrison had any honour, he’d resign

DAVID Morrison, the Left’s latest choice as Australian of the Year, used to be big on “standards” when he was chief of Army.

“The standard you walk past is the standard you accept,” he thundered in his “Jedi Council” speech of 2013, so acclaimed by the feminist establishment because he claimed demeaning attitudes towards women were “systemic” in the Australian Defence Force.

This was Morrison’s mantra when he stripped a blameless lieutenant colonel of his command two months after that speech, for failing to be aware of sexist and pornographic emails cc’d to him by a civilian, which he hadn’t opened.

Morrison shamed the married officer in public statements by claiming he was part of the so-called Jedi Council “sex ring”, as an excitable media dubbed it, and killed his promising career. He didn’t name him, but he didn’t have to.

Everyone in the Army knew which lieutenant colonel in Townsville had been marched out of his office by military police wearing plastic gloves.

“Ken”, 43, has tried to kill himself twice since he was retired medically unfit last January, most recently on Australia Day after watching TV coverage of Morrison receiving his gong. He is due to enter a military hospital this week for treatment including electro-convulsive therapy.

Reported rape of six-year-old girl categorised as 'minor', Child Protection Systems Royal Commission hears

The reported rape of a six-year-old girl in state care was categorised as "minor" by an initial investigator, South Australia's Child Protection Systems Royal Commission has heard.

The inquiry, sitting in Adelaide, was prompted by the case of paedophile Families SA carer Shannon McCoole, who is now in jail for sexually abusing young children in his care.

It is currently examining an internal investigation that happened after McCoole was suspended from duty.

A work colleague said she rushed into a room after what sounded like McCoole climbing onto a bed while tucking a six-year-old girl in.

The woman said she heard McCoole whispering, then the child saying: "Stop, don't tickle me there" and witnessed the girl on all-fours with a look of "sheer terror".
