Mr.Citrus posted:I think overwatch has a -15 penalty A wiki says there's a small aim penalty, so I believe you. I wish there were a way to view hit probabilities from a specific XCOM troop to a specific enemy in spaces where they currently are NOT. Like, if the sectoid runs from cover, is my Overwatch going to have a better chance of hitting him on the next tile over than Fire has of hitting him where he rests? Another frustration is the around-the-corner-is-not-flanking thing. Seems like hit probabilities are very low for some situations that are definitely flanking but don't count as flanking.

Number 1 Sexy Dad posted:Sorry if this has been covered somewhere already but if everything else is equal, do overwatch and fire have the same hit probability? No, overwatch has a slight aim penalty unless you're overwatching firing from concealment, and also can't crit unless you're a specialist and bought the Cool Under Pressure perk from the GTS. But since overwatch shots are made against targets who don't have cover you usually have slightly better odds of hitting than you would if you just took a shot at someone in cover. If you're a specialist with Cool Under Pressure and the Guardian ability from ranking up then your overwatches are stronger than your regular rifle attacks. In terms of accuracy it tends to be: -Shots on your turn made against enemies who have been flanked or had their cover destroyed -Overwatch shots -Shots against enemies in cover That said, being able to back up and overwatch can let you catch enemies in a better position, especially if you haven't encountered them yet because if they wander into your pod on their turn you can shoot them with overwatch, watch them scatter for cover, watch as their turn ends and then take your turn to mop them up while if you wander into their sight range on your turn you have to watch them run for cover and then figure out how to root them out in hopes that you can wipe them out before they can take a turn attacking you.

I read that Reddit thread about the caps lock key speeding up load times, man that's hilarious and weird. Seems like it only works for me when returning to the skyranger after a mission, but that's a significant chunk of loading time removed.Number 1 Sexy Dad posted:Sorry if this has been covered somewhere already but if everything else is equal, do overwatch and fire have the same hit probability? I don't know the exact figures, but I know that it specifically says that overwatch penalties are removed when you use them in an ambush, which kind of implies they exist otherwise.

One thing that would be cool is if mind controlled troops acted on their own turns instead of getting what is sort of a free or advance turn as soon as they're taken over. If handled as a delayed reaction (mind controller queues action, action is executed on troop's turn) it would be a nice nerf to a sort of OP (IMO) ability.

That's really interesting, that any overwatch penalty would still exist in an ambush, when a grenade will always hit. e: I mean, I assume 'overwatch penalty removed' means the regular fire penalty is still there even in an ambush. I.E. you set up your overwatch ambush and you still have no better chance of hitting than using Fire in regular combat. theres a will theres moe fucked around with this message at 03:26 on Feb 9, 2016 |

On Guerilla ops where you have to destroy the enemy transmitter before it finishes sending data, can you blow the transmitter and evac? I was going to, but I REALLY wanted that destroyed MEC.

First encounter with a Gatekeeper. One lightly wounded, one wounded, three gravely wounded, one totally fine. That's gonna smart just a little bit. On the plus side I can probably just ignore half the poo poo that needs an A team until mine is back on top. EDIT: I could probably have tackled it with no losses or even wounds if I hadn't done a dumb explore after all my guys went on overwatch to end the turn. I hit with everything, but it was in a bad order and I didn't get the opportunity to Stasis it before it raised a poo poo ton (nine) of zombies. An Advent MEC probably ended my first playthrough on its first appearance, actually. My squad was stuck a bit clustered together by a bunch of Advent troopers on overwatch, and I didn't know what its abilities were. Cue a rocket blowing up everyone's cover, two people immediately dying due to being exposed, two more panicking, and the VIP getting caught in the blast. I managed to defeat the enemies without any further losses other than the VIP, but two of my three survivors were half a turn's movement short of making it to the Skyranger in time for evac. That huge area cover destruction is absolutely brutal, though. From having only encountered it once, it looks like the only way to reliably beat it is to kill the MEC before it gets to take an action. If you're only fighting the MEC pod it's not so bad because there won't really be enough followup to punish your team for being in the open, but if a MEC pod walks up while you're already in a fight and you don't have the resources available to immediately kill it (as was the case for me) then GG hope your B-Team is ready to roll.

So I've found where XCOM2 stores it's names for ADJECTIVES and NOUNS for op names and what have you. I figured I'd start putting together a list of names for hilarious operation names like we had in EW. Only there's a lot more names to fill in now, and I'm not nearly creatively enough. So any suggestions from you dumb nerds would be greatly appreciated. Since I don't want to clog up this thread with dumb posts, just PM them or email them to at SA<myusername> at gmail dot com. I'll put the list together and upload it to the workshop and/or share a dropbox link for you guys.
