What's AMC's stance on swears? They're cable, so technically they can do whatever, but I'm sure they have rules. How often was Breaking bad, for example, allowed to say gently caress?

premium cable isn't regulated but since cable's ad-supported i think it falls under some looser subsection of FCC regs? Like i know there's a rule against displaying nudity on basic cable dunno though i'm out of my depth there either way i know for a fact that breaking bad only got one uncensored "gently caress" a season, and it was the first "gently caress", and it was only on the first airing

I doubt he will ever swear in the show besides the occasional "poo poo."

If some basic cable network wanted to show a program with uncensored language they're free to do it. But they don't do it because of advertisers. FCC does have a say in what they consider obscenity on cable, but that doesn't cover language. AMC can show an episode with 50 "fucks" in it if they're confident advertisers won't pull the plug but the FCC will step in if they try to show any actual loving basically.quote:Do the FCC's rules apply to cable and satellite programming? In the past, the FCC has enforced the indecency and profanity prohibitions only against conventional broadcast services, not against subscription programming services such as cable and satellite. However, the prohibition against obscene programming applies to subscription programming services at all times. https://www.fcc.gov/reports-research/guides/obscenity-indecency-profanity-faq X-O fucked around with this message at 07:33 on Feb 9, 2016 |

The only thing I'm not liking is the skids in episode 2 onwards, they just seem a bit too much. Grew up in an Alberta town of ~15,000 people and the show hits really close to home, especially the hockey players I bit the bullet and got the trial, and I'm so glad I did. But I 100% agree, could've done with 30-40% less of the skids (but then again, that's pretty much a fact of life right there), and the preacher was a little too Dean Pelton from Community, but it was such a blast. I feel like the hockey players were every player I've ever known. It filled the 19-2 shaped hole in my life for a little while, at least. I loved that Jared Keeso apparently dragged Dan Petronijevic over from 19-2 to do a couple episodes. That guy's a hoot.

To clarify, the FCC has nothing to do with cable channels, it can really only regulate what is said over the airwaves. So basically, ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, Fox, and a UHF station or two depending on your local market . The threshold for what is allowed in cable is usually set by the local cable providers and advertisers. IFC and Sundance are both niche channels that show tits and rear end, and allow uncensored fucks. The word, not the act. Still, good luck finding them . So if you see Comedy Central showing an uncensored version of the South Park movie at 2 AM, odds are most of the advertisers are going to be Trojan condoms, Adam and Eve, and cam websites that really don't care if the Family Research council boycotts them. As for actual loving, my local cable provider will happily show it, they just charge extra to see erect penises penetrating vaginas. Actual obscenity, when not delivered over public airwaves is usually restricted to kiddie porn, scat, and bestiality. thrakkorzog fucked around with this message at 12:36 on Feb 9, 2016 |

I have a feeling we're only a year or two out from some basic cable channel breaking the "F" barrier for primetime shows. Both Syfy and USA seem well on their way seeing as they have new shows where they let characters say gently caress, they just mute it. For example, last night's The Magicians had Penny call Quentin a "racist mother____" while another character mentioned they were doing what they were doing to ____ with someone.

You can explain away violence to children, but there's nothing you can do about tits and fucks. Don't worry honey, that's just ketchup. The silly man spilled it all over himself and he's just helping him clean it up. No, no, that's sausage. He ate so much he was just stuffed and the zombie was helping him out! That's just his walking stick they snapped. He was about to go for a long hike, it's a good thing they tested it before he left! Haha! Look at the silly brain hat! The zombies like it so much they can't stop taking a close look. Halloween's over! Time to smash this jack-o-lantern we made of our friend's face! Hand me my bat. But if they showed a naked zombie, what do you tell them? She has balloons under her shirt? Ridiculous. Somebody has to think of the children.

Syfy used both "poo poo" and "rear end in a top hat" in The Expanse, so yeah. Things are definitely easing up. There was a great behind the scenes video where Shohreh Aghdashloo had to keep refilming a scene where her character says "poo poo" because she was too polite to really belt it out.
