I still think the look in Punk's eyes was "holy poo poo that guy is going to kill me"

If Punk was really that much of a contrarian dickhead someone at Roufussport would have beaten the living poo poo out of him by now.

He just strikes me who wants to keep work and life separated and gets really fed up when people who are fans of his work feel obligated to be part of his life, and the easiest way to tell people they have no right to that is to be blunt about it. He probably loves the trappings of being famous, the money and respect, but hates actually being famous.

He certainly seemed like he was to people backstage at WWE and the media. So he is to people who aren't a physical threat to him or if they are would be committing career suicide by doing something about it. He's probably smart enough to watch his mouth around a bunch of people that could kick the poo poo out of him, especially when part of their job is to put the gloves on 2-3 times a week and punch him in the face.

Speaking of Roufussport, they're moved into a bigger facility behind one of the best greasy spoon diners in Milwaukee now (Blue's Egg), so I am really looking forward to the first story of a fighter blowing weight because he can't lay off the world famous hash browns. It would almost certainly have been Pat Barry if he hadn't moved to Colorado.

In fairness to the guy, about 80% of success in pro wrestling is being enough of a ridiculous dickhead backstage that everyone immediately caves to all your bullshit. Hell, Hogan all but made it an art form. But Punk does have this weird mix of spending half the time being a super chill dude who you'd want to hang out and watch the fight with, and then suddenly turning on this thing when it comes to his personal goals where he's a really intense and driven prima-donna who's putting up with none of your bullshit. Whereas Hogan just did shitloads of cocaine before his promos, and also after them.

Punk has been a total mark for the UFC and its fighters so it's no surprise he gives them his absolute best in being a professional. It's all the other people he doesn't bother to try being diplomatic or polite to that are reporting their bitter encounters and Punk chalks it up to 'being himself', 'not fake', 'I don't care what people think about me' and all other immature rationalizations he has to keep his ego in tact. He says he doesn't care but he surely cares enough to join the biggest promotion and get paid to fight and be seen as a UFC fighter. If he really didn't care he could've just trained and done some smokers behind closed doors to see how tough he could be. Yea he wants to test himself with this challenge, but surely he wants that recognition and money that can be a part of it. He can be a good guy to people when he tries to like he does with fighters and UFC management; he just doesn't want to put the effort out to everyone. That's pretty typical behavior of people in general though and those that put effort more outwardly to anyone of any status are generally who end up getting more opportunity down the road just by virtue of being well liked. Chris Jericho & Edge had an interesting story about how they were in Texas for a show and were in a tag match that night (Punk & Jericho vs Edge & Morrison) and there was a USA/Canada hockey game for the gold medal going on so Edge & Jericho (~20 year vets each at this time) wanted to call the match in the ring so they can watch the game in the production truck. Jericho was watching the game even as his entrance music hit and ran to the ring right after Canada scored a goal and the match went underway. Punk started the match and never tagged Jericho in (Jericho realized the trolling 5-min in) and after the match ended (2v1 the whole way) Jericho called a meeting with them and laid into Punk for what he did out there. Punk was heated at Jericho for being unprofessional by being late. Edge also chimed to Punk that he and Jericho had 40 years of experience between them and they can perform out there on the fly and included the quote "We don't have to explain ourselves to you". Edge was telling Punk he gets where he's coming from but he's not in the right in this situation because he and Punk are very similar and Punk will see that later on down the road. Edge was validated when Punk tweeted about the Stanley Cup he was watching during a PPV he was on at some point after that.

CM Punk doesn't want to be a UFC fighter, CM Punk wants to have fought in the UFC. In the sense he does not want/need to make his living as a fighter, he just wants to do this as a rich bored man with connections, and he's enough of a draw to pull it off.

WWE has been trying to show some social consciousness lately, so why does it still insist on making its minority wrestlers into grill-wearing, thuggish B-listers?
