The electric baseboard heater isn't going to get completely covered, and it's extremely unlikely it's gonna get up to temperatures hot enough to start fires just from being covered at all. If you''re worried, get especially high temperature fabrics as previously mentioned. Most systems won't heat up above 300 F when completely covered and left on high.

They're not infinite heat machines, and people routinely have couches or other fabric covered objects right up against them that also "block heat" from getting out, and those things don't catch on fire so long as they're the proper sort of fabric either.

Edit: And the most common cause of fires with drapes and baseboard heaters by far are either an accelerant ending up on the drapes (such as oils or greases), or an electrical problem with starts spitting out sparks or a straight electrical fire, which then catches the drapes.

Simply having drapes go over it is an extremely rare cause of fires, and most commonly happens with very old baseboard systems that do not properly regulate the heat combined with low temperature to catch fire curtains.

Thanks. The electric baseboards, are probably 20+ years old. The drapes are apparently polyester.

Not a bad idea, i just used elastics for tonight to tie them up and make them hover about half a foot above the baseboards, but tomorrow i will go dig out my sewing kit and try to hem them. :downs:

The capsaicin itself does not cause any physical damage – it tricks your nerves into feeling like they've been burned even though they haven't. However your body reacts to it as if you really have been burned and depending on how severe that reaction is your body can damage itself. For example, with a hot enough pepper your mouth will become inflamed which can result in some tissue damage. Or if you get acid reflux from eating hot peppers and eat them continually, you might eventually do some damage to your esophagus.

That's interesting! If you sprayed a very high concentrate of capaicin in your mouth, would the inflammation produced be similar to an actual burn?

No, it's similar to an allergic reaction and nothing at all like a burn.

It'd be kind of like getting tear gassed, which is just very painful and not at all damaging in most cases.

That's exactly what pepper spray/OC spray is and it won't "burn" you but you will hate your very existence for a while.

Allergic reactions are no joke. A large enough dose of capsaicin could put you into anaphylaxis or shock and kill you. So yes, I guess it would technically wear off either way.

The worst things about the prequels are all deficiencies in filmmaking or performances; the worst things about TFA are thematic or structural. I wasn't a fan but I don't think there's a lot of overlap between "hates the prequels" and "hates TFA." It's basically Disney cargo-culting A New Hope.

I'd say go and judge for yourself.

That's the correct usage of the term. Where are you seeing Michigan St on the bubble? I haven't heard or read anything like that.

They were 4-4 in conference a few weeks back and there was concern (although even then they'd still not be on the bubble), but they've since gone on a win streak and have a solid chance at top seeding.

Get a sun box. SAD is caused by hosed up levels of serotonin and melatonin, the release of both is heavily dependent on sunlight. More light = less SAD. Your doctor isn't wrong per se, but Zoloft is the easy solution. Sitting in front of a light for a few hours a day is a bigger pain in the butt, but it works.

e: Also if you have an office job, spending more time outside and/or in generally brightly lit areas (even without an expensive sun box) can help a ton.

I take a vitamin D supplement every morning, nominally for this reason. I don't know if it actually helps or is placebo, but since I started a couple winters ago I feel like my mood is more stable come January/February. Ymmv

ESPN notifications have been known to switch Iowa and Iowa State, so possibly it said Michigan State but meant Michigan. Saying they are on the bubble is a bit of a stretch, but much less than saying MSU is.

I'm a stay at home dad. In the Pacific Northwest. Our falls, winters and springs are really grey and I get out of the house whenever it isn't raining a ton, but yeah its just not sunny very often until summer or late spring.

Do you have personal experience with the sun box? Probably going to get one. Also I was for a while taking a vitamin D supplement and didn't notice much difference. I'm taking a multi-vitamin now that has vitamin D in it.

You can cash out the fake money into real money, though the sites obviously want you to play some more with it and there have been one or two websites which are near-criminally difficult to get money out of. Other than that, you've just got humanity's poor understanding of risk.

You can upload from the imgur app but sharing to a bbcode link is all weird and terrible now.

You should just use the Awful app. The iOS version has automatic uploading, don't know about the Android version.

Is that just an android limitation? Because I can upload poo poo from my phone to imgur just fine, but that's iOS. Not using the app — the website. Because their poo poo app was just for browsing and why the hell would I want that rather than uploading?

You do have to hunt down the tiny upload button, then close out their stupid advert for their app before you can touch the upload dialog, though.

Install imgur for android and it'll totally let you upload from the phone itself, I've been using it for many years now. It's this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.imgur.mobile&hl=en

There are also unofficial imgur apps that just handle uploading and giving you a file link to copy.

I don't have personal experience with using them, however I was a psychology student in college and interned with a few therapists and sun boxes were always their recommendation. This was several years ago and I've heard through the grapevine that medication is now much preferred because it's what insurance companies want to cover.

Both probably work at the end of the day, but I'd guess that medication is generally more effective for larger swaths of the population (and probably cheaper as well). I'd ask your doctor about them.

I don't think vitamin D does a whole lot for SAD.
