I do want to see if you can make certain enemies immune to the Repeater effect. And if that Sectopod 50% damage reduction trait is still lurking in the game code somewhere. ...And if you can make them Overwatch after defensive teleporting. These super-enemies need to be more of a challenge.

If I have a small character pool, will all my starting rookies come from my character pool, or will a bunch of them still be random?

If you changed your INI file properly then your pool should come thru but there will still be random people mixed in, in my experience.

Shiiit I think I just got hit hard by the anti-Beaglerush maneuver.

I'm infiltrating the broadcasting tower, overwatch creeping forward cautiously. My team consists of a Grenadier, a Wizard and Kelly. Kelly with her individual concealment, of course. Few turns in, an Andromedan and a Codex walk into view. Wizard and Grenadier take their Overwatch shots targeting the Codex. I'm already thinking "Why would you do that, you idiots? You know what's gonna happen.". Anyway, one misses, one hits, Codex is left alive and clones itself.

The clone appears in a flanking position, pretty much right next to Kelly, revealing her.

Kelly for some reason doesn't even take an Overwatch shot, which is kind of an issue I've had with individual concealment in general.

Now the Codex clone immediately gets an action and does the AoE thing, catching all three of my guys and I'm sitting here all :eek:.

Don't do me like that, game.

Thanks for this post.

Edit: While I'm messing around with my Ini, does anyone know what I would actually do to these numbers to make the injury system more forgiving?

code:
WoundSeverities=(MinHealthPercent=-10000, MaxHealthPercent=20, MinPointsToHeal=10000, MaxPointsToHeal=40000, Difficulty=2) ;Classic
WoundSeverities=(MinHealthPercent=21, MaxHealthPercent=50, MinPointsToHeal=6000, MaxPointsToHeal=32000, Difficulty=2)
WoundSeverities=(MinHealthPercent=51, MaxHealthPercent=75, MinPointsToHeal=3500, MaxPointsToHeal=20000, Difficulty=2)
WoundSeverities=(MinHealthPercent=76, MaxHealthPercent=10000, MinPointsToHeal=1000, MaxPointsToHeal=10000, Difficulty=2)
I'd like to be able to make it so a soldier only sat out if they took a hard hit.

A codex is pretty neat to control because of their weapon disabling AOE, but when I use their teleport it's to someplace useless. Must be how it's coded.

What do you mean? You aim the teleport with your mouse, it just shows up as one orange square like the kind you grapple to and has a crazy long range. Also one of my favorite animations in the game. Some solid visual/sound work there, gj game.

On one hand, I wish multiplayer specifically told you if your opponent has dropped if a disconnect happens. On the other hand, his deep sigh of annoyance when he realized he had to try and kill a full heallth sectopod with only chryssalids left kinda told me the whole story :3: Thank Jake for unintentional open mic joys.

Still REALLY few people on matchmaking it seems, but a lot of fun aside from the delay, should probably start bugging the friend list for games at some point.

I'm playing on Commander.

When Beaglerush was streaming the review build, he would activate pods by letting them walk into detection range on their turn instead of initiating combat on his own. This pretty much generates a free turn of Overwatch fire. For the release version, Firaxis gave enemies a 50% chance to get a free action when concealment is broken on their own turn (which even the game internally calls anti-Beaglerush maneuver or something like that).

And that is what happened when the Codex teleported next to Kelly.

Ahh okay, I gotcha. I know about the 50% chance for enemy action when breaking concealment, so I adopted a tactic of using a forward concealment Ranger backed by an unconcealed squad to set my overwatch traps. Explains why I never ran into that.

This doesn't surprise me at all. Loading a mission from the geoscape takes about 45 seconds on my SSD. If I immediately save, quit, and reload the mission from the main menu it takes about 5 seconds. Game needs about 10 optimization patches.

Missions are procedurally generated. If it's generating when you start the mission, but then using the stored configuration when you load it from the disc, that's kind of understandable.

I assume the seed is generated from the game state at that point, but the conversion between generating the level from seed to an actual level is probably what takes so long the first time. The seed can later check if a level is already generated with those parameters and load the already generated result, if I understand their implementation properly.

This isn't something that the Unreal Engine was designed to do and it's kind of witch-craft that they were able to do it at all.

I had a sectopod doing this once at a chest I had to hack to win a mission. Eventually I have up, killed the sectopod, and it let me hack the air where the chest used to be. Mission Complete. Later, filled with false confidence, I gladly destroyed a sectopod beside an objective only to immediately be told I failed the objective.

It happened to me once before when I accidentally triggered a pod and a random ADVENT soldier after seeing a MEC shot to poo poo in front of him calmly proceeded to shoot my sniper in the face, which I think was the only time she got hit with a serious injury.

I just wasn't prepared for the string of events that would lead to Kelly getting revealed by a clone at close range, really. At least this way I got some use out of the sword in a late-game mission, because when you lock Kelly's gun she gets to slicing.

And the Andromedan that was in the pod with the Codex became my new best friend.

That whole mission was a cascade of hilarious poo poo happening anyway.

This Andromedan here just bumbled through some apparently destructible and flammable terrain features. I have not taken a single shot at him or the Archon, that' all his own doing.

Later, another Andromedan + Archon pod. My Psi Wizard took a shot at two Archons with Void Rift, which killed one and put some damage on the remaining one. It also, for the first time, procced panic on the remaining Archon. That Archon then got his panic action and double-moved, ending up...

..right in front of Kelly. :getin:

I used a Psi operative to lock one in stasis while I ambushed the rest of the pod, made it pretty easy to skulljack it the next turn.
