TheSpiritFox posted:The squad mourned his heroic loss, while at the same time worrying quite a bit about why a rookie on his first mission and XCOM's first mission happened to drop on death a superior aim sight (which it seems like he might have used with all the sub 70% shots he connected) and an Alien Data Cache. The Legendary loot is ridiculous. I had something like seven +20 combat stims and half a dozen +10% scopes/lasers etc after a couple of missions.

Kiranamos posted:drat, the mod list is blowing up. I'm surprised at some of them but am unsure if they will break the game. Specifically, the "STOP WASTING MY TIME" mod seems too good to be true. Anyone try it or have other mods they recommend? I'm only using some customization ones and one of the faster movement ones. Link please.

On the last mission I mind controlled an andromedon and sent it forward to scope out the final room while my team sat in a defensive position and waited. It got killed a couple of turns later and the area went dark - except the shell was then leaving a trail of acid that all the other aliens in the room kept wandering through, apparently, because everything that could be hurt by it slowly died while I hid for 20 turns like a coward. Bit of an anticlimax but hey, I won.

There was a bug in Enemy Unknown where pods would randomly appear where they hadn't been before. Like in the Graveyard map with the building directly in the center, I once had my whole squad inside that building, ended my turn, and suddenly a sectoid pod appeared inside and scattered. That bug was in the game for a LONG time before it got patched, anyone remember how long?

I don't know if this is common knowledge, but be careful to check the armors of each operative once you upgrade. If a recruit spawns with the resistance kevlar armor from the preorder, they won't automatically upgrade to warden, you have to equip it manually.

Tried out the "Stop wasting my time" mod and seriously why aren't you downloading this mod. It lets you play as fluid as EW allowed. Excellent mod all around, even speeds up the Avenger.

Has anyone seen an example of people modding in more music tracks? I figured it would be fun to throw your own stuff into the ambient and combat soundtracks, if the game even works like that.

So last night I got my hands on a psi ops for the first time. There is no emote in the smiles list that will to justice to the pure ecstasy I felt when I used the first ability I got, Null Lance, on a neat little row of enemies. It's almost 14 hours later and my nipples are still hard.

I've become paranoid that some of the bullshit cosmetic item mods I've installed are trolling me and are adjusting the alien unit progress. In a mission before my first retaliation, I encountered a mec - this was before vipers even turned up, who I assumed I was supposed to meet first. Come to think of it, one of the first scanning rewards were dragon rounds and an acid grenade too. Feels like something's hosed up.

It's out! It Will Take Many Bullets Note that due to how the game handle giving weapons out the mod isn't fully retroactive; since the new weapons are granted when you build a weapon, if you already have beam assault rifles, you won't get regular and mag assault rifles with beam stats. Nothing I can really do about that, sorry. It should work if you don't have it purchased yet though. Please report anything horribly broken. Also make sure all the gun attachments actually display properly, I think I got them all but that was the most finicky part.

My Phantom Ranger got Hail of Bullets from the AWC. Not the most incredible thing he could've gotten, but a guaranteed shotgun blast from any distance is pretty hard to turn down.

I think I'm at the point where I have to beat the game now because I can't beat the game at this rate. Lost my haywire specialist because of a Destroy Relay mission, and I was forced to trigger double Gatekeeper+Sectopod. Thank firaxis for mimic beacons. I'm in the middle of October currently, and pods are at a point where I'm dead resource-wise if I'm fighting more than 4 pods in a timed mission.

Welp, first campaign on veteran completed. I fully admit to *lots* of savescumming when a move or encounter didn't go well. Kept a save at the start of every (when I remembered) battle, and one on the Geoscape, again when I remembered after a battle. Didn't realize how amazing the AWS and its random perks were, so I got it late. Igor "Fireball" Dudek: My best grenadier for a long time, and definitely my shootier one. With an Autoloader in his gun, he could always be counted on to lay down heavy firepower where I needed it. I never got the upgraded Shredder gun, but he made use of the standard one quite well. Denise "Jammer" Sullivan: Combat Medic and Robot-Thief extraordinaire. She also made good use of the repeater I gave her. Between that and giving my other soldiers free overwatch shots with Threat Protocol, she was a *very* effective all-around support - and her own free overwatch shot after full movement came in useful on more than one occasion. Sarah "Thumper" Hahn: My primary go-to explosives carrier. Between grenades and her Blaster Launcher, she practically leveled entire city blocks, and I love her for it. Armor is *not* safe when Thumper's around. Lexi "Shooter" Murray: My go-to Sniper. Always reliable, always deadly. Between Killzone and Serial, and giving her an extended Magazine, is it any wonder she has the single greatest kills-to-missions ratio of all my soldiers? More than once did she spend her entire 6-shot clip in a single turn. Diane "Misery" Nelson: I was late getting a Psi Lab out, and boy do I regret it after seeing Misery in action. Not even for just the utility, but the raw offensive power she puts out. Rift, Null Lance, Soulfire... she's a powerhouse, and I gave her AP rounds so that even when she's not using mind-bullets, she STILL doesn't give a single gently caress about your armor. Kiefer "Big Boss" Sutherland: Oh man. Big Boss lived up to his reputation in this campaign. I made him through the character pool midway through the campaign, after finally figuring out why I couldn't get mods to work and getting the right-eye eyepatch mod working. He showed up as a colonel ranger from a scan-rumor (very appropriate) at a time when I was decidedly low on high-rank rangers, I took him full-scout-tree because Big Boss, and I did NOT regret it. I gave him a Repeater, a Laser Sight, and Bluescreen rounds, and, well... he didn't get a huge number of kills, but they were always big kills. See my previous post about all of his various executions and crits. I think it's appropriate that the final shot of the campaign was fired by none other than Big Boss. A crit, naturally.

Thank you for the advice. I wont lie, despite the action camera being janky as hell there is something immensely satisfying about seeing ADVENT reinforcements run and fall into a wave of overwatch fire.

Insert name here posted:It's out! It Will Take Many Bullets You are amazing. This isn't even about ballistic superiority, but more that I am not a fan of the non ballistics model. They even managed to make the plasma animation outstanding, but the guns look like poo poo. Also I saw some people asking about the LW mods and they were a big meh for me. Muton Centurion are a bit tougher, but I think I fought a grand total of 3? SMGs are and I never used officers because of the opportunity cost and the fact that the added abilities were themselves not that exciting, at least the first three tiers. (Please Firaxis give us an optimization patch soon)

Because you don't have to do that to dash and melee, and I've always had my rangers grab loot when someone they sworded dropped some. Yeah. I popped Run & Gun in order to be able to get out after I dashed-slashed-grabbed, but grabbing ended that soldier's turn. The loot was already on the ground and there just happened to be an enemy in range as well.
