one of the things Trump is kinda correct about is that the middle east is a clusterfuck and arming 'moderates' without really knowing who they are is probably a bad idea.

Lol why would people vote GOP over Hilary if Bernie didn't become leader that makes no sense, Hilary is a turd but the GOP is infinitely worse. What's really blowing my mind is the Hilary camp's current policy of describing all criticism of her as sexist, which is massively untrue.

Junior doctors' row: BMA rejects 'final' contract offer

quote:

Junior doctors' leaders have rejected a "final take-it-or-leave-it" offer made by the government to settle the bitter contract dispute in England.

The offer included a concession on Saturday pay, but the British Medical Association said it was not enough.

The development is expected to lead ministers to announce that they are going to impose a contract on doctors.

The news has emerged as doctors take part in their second 24-hour strike - due to end at 08:00 GMT on Thursday.

During the walk-out they have provided emergency cover, but the stoppage has led to the cancellation of nearly 3,000 routine operations and treatments. GP care has been largely unaffected.

The offer was made on Tuesday evening, on the eve of the strike, and rejected by the BMA on Wednesday afternoon when the walk-out was in full swing.

It was made by Sir David Dalton, the hospital chief executive brought in by ministers last month to broker a deal in the bitter dispute.

In his letter to the union on Tuesday, he said it was a final offer and that if it was rejected it would mean there is "no realistic prospect of a negotiated agreement" .

It would have seen those working at least one in four Saturdays get extra pay for each of the Saturdays they work.

The move represented a more generous offer than previously when the bar for extra pay was set at one in three.

Sir David also said the fines levied on trusts for over-working doctors would be increased, while the extra pay medics got for very long hours would be increased.

But the BMA responded on Wednesday by rejecting the offer, sticking to its stance that any Saturday working should attract higher pay.

The letter reiterated the union's proposal made previously that basic pay be increased by only about half the 11% offered by ministers to help pay for it.

The government is now waiting for Sir David to confirm that he sees no way of resolving the dispute.

It is then expected ministers will move to impose a new contract on England's 55,000 junior doctors, who represent a third of the medical workforce.

The new contracts would then come into force from August. They would apply to all new junior doctors immediately but would also be imposed as existing junior doctors changed their rotations - it is expected 80% would be on it within six months.

It is unclear at the moment how the BMA will respond to that prospect, although their mandate allows them to call more strikes.

BMA junior doctors leader Dr Johann Malawana said the government had "attacked" and "patronised" the profession.

"The health secretary can end this dispute, but he must put politics to one side and concentrate on agreeing a fair contract that delivers for patients."

Good on the BMA for sticking to their guns. Hunt is determined to sell the NHS off no matter what, maybe he'll at least lose his job over it :(

While I agree that someone with that skills to be in that position mending basic hardware is a massive waste of resources, the fact that he either can't do it (Everyone I know would either be able to do it, or have a go) or can't authorize writing the kit off should be troubling.

So we're just going to forget that we had an agreement that both the BMA and the government found acceptable but which Hunt, just one man, vetoed because of ~reasons~, and then had the gall to try and score points on the fact that "only" over ten thousand junior doctors turned out to the latest strike.

I know it's an ideological battle for the Tories, but is there anything specifically Hunt gains from an NHS selloff? Any fingers in corporate medical pies that might make for an obvious ulterior motive? Or is he just banking on staying friends with other Tories who do?

Jeremy Hunt once co-authored a paper about how it was time to privatise the NHS.

Also I remember something about every Tory front bencher having links to private heathcare providers.

I don't think I'd move to the States if I didn't have an employer who wouldn't think twice about paying $10k to get my paperwork in order. Does not seem like a place I'd want to be with a job that doesn't pay well and offer good benefits.

The Tories are pretty much all on the take from someone, that's the point of going into politics for all but the most old-school.

And if he isn't right now once he's shuffled out of government he'll go sit on the board of some healthcare company or some company with shares in one.

Check your family tree for the Irish or Italian grandparent that every True Scot has? Those are the two EU countries both offer no questions citizenship by grandparentage (Italy might be grandfather only I think?).

I don't qualify for this because I only have an Irish great-grandfather, my grandfather was selfishly born in Scotland and only grew up in Ireland. The other good option is to have the foresight to be born with dual nationality, I also recommend that.
