I had to reset a mission because I brought along a medic specialist to counter Lids and I keep forgetting to equip the med kit, literally half his abilities based on. Lids are bullshit. I'm basically mind controlling a Zerker or something beefy next time to be my bait.

I've actually never allowed a berserker to have an action. andromodons look scare but have a hilariously inaccurate punch, like 40% to hit. archons are shits but they're just stronger scarier stun lancers who have a delayed (and therefore useless) missile attack. mutons and gatekeerps and codexes now! They'll gently caress you up. psi witches too but once again, never let them have more than one turn.

My current game kinda makes me understand the people saying the Avatar project is bullshit. I started in South Africa, my only connection was through Europe, and the two first facilities were in East Asia and South America, requiring at least 4 connections to reach from Africa. If I hadn't gotten a facility lead from a random event on the world map, I might very well have lost this.

What about the skull jack? I wanted the gts and awc for squad size and recovery and now its was time for comms and the power to fuel it. I'm never going to build the proving grounds at this rate.

With regard to the map and enemies, being able to read the (unrevealed) map is kind of a required skill at this point, especially with the mission timers. Since mission timers continue before cover loss, to strike the balance of getting moving done vs not losing your ambush opportunity, you need to be able to make reasonably educated guesses where units are going to be in the next hop forward. This isn't always easy, and it isn't always obvious to people that one, this is an important skill, and two, how you develop that skill. In that vein I can see why people complain about timers, actually. I don't think it would take more than a couple concealment losses against surprise patrols to make me feel like the game was bullshit. I still don't have problems with the timers since I hop forward just fine, but watching one of my friends play and get frustrated at this was pretty revealing to me. I had 2 exo suits in my inventory because the 2 people wearing them were injured and I pressed make armor available. I equipped one. The other disappeared completely.

Beagle claims that dashing while in Concealment is what attracts pods towards you. I guess that explains why me and that other guy were having totally different experiences with respect to the AI 'cheating'.
