I picked up the Calth set yesterday to get the ball going on my 30k Dork Angles and I have some questions about cataphractii. I went ahead and grabbed five more off of ebay for an even ten to play around with. What are some good weapon combos for either two squads of five or one squad of ten? The kit comes with powerfists and I'm kind of partial to axes to keep points down. Forge World now sells some additional arm packs for the plastic models so anything is workable. My legion of choice gets a "powerful" bonus for using power swords, but I have always been underwhelmed by power sword terminators in 40k. To be more precise, I have always loving hated power sword terminator sergeants. They're useless shits. Though in this case I could get a sweet S5 power sword on the sergeant (and only the sergeant) for free. That might actually do something. How critical is AP2 for terminators, especially cataphractii? Would I be better off with axes and/or fists? Which of the two should I focus on more? Are twin lightning claws worth the upgrade cost or would singles be better? Despite the DA bonus to hit, a single lightning claw looks like it'll be slightly more effective than a regular power sword. Comedy option: All power mauls all the time? Mango Polo posted:Yo Book 6 is most likely going on sale tomorrow; if you enjoyed the pictures do consider getting it.The fluff is cool, the art is cool. If you dont go AP2 weapons on terminators, you are at risking of getting absolutely murdered by terminators that have some AP2 weapons. Chainfists are also a good option for cracking open spartans.

It's worth noting that DA terminator command squads can have Calibanite swords on everybody. I think with them I'd go with combi-weapons on everyone and then hide 2-3 power/chainfists in the squad. With regular termies, all powerfists and combi-weapons.

Since there was some interest in Zone Mortalis earlier, I want to mention this thing that literally just popped up a few days ago: The equivalent 4x4' setup is about 90£ cheaper. (360 vs 450). On one hand, it's MDF and looks obviously cheaper than the real deal and that's a lot of britbucks a knockoff. On the other, it's entirely modular and you can flatten it all for storage/travel. Plus with some scatter terrain I think it'd look pretty sweet. This is pretty tempting.

For only £90 difference I'd have hoped it look better than that.

I don't think it can get any prettier than this with MDF sadly. Alternatively you could grab just the basic tiles and make your own walls, but that... sort of defeats the point. I'm amazed no one has made a proper ZM gaming mat. FAT tried making one but it looks horrifically ugly.

Just played a 1500 pt game vs my night Lords buddy with pre book 6 and pre faq rules. Absolute massacre. I'll post pics later. Sevatar killed 5 cataphracti with storm Shields and then 10 veterans basically alone... Until my Praetor Solomon Krayt stood alone and kicked his loving dick in and his 9 boyfriends. 5 attacks? 5 kills what up. Draw in the end. Less than 10 things left alive. Going to have to swap the cataphracti for a command squad though as I forgot about the bulky rule with drop pods. More conversions ahoy! I love 30k. Feels so much more balanced and dramatic.

Yeah, the power is way more in check and fights are much more dramatic. Each combat is suspenseful because there is hardly any Eternal Warrior and morale is a big deal. Melee happens in every game I have played. I've also realized that scoring is less important, while denial is more important. I think the shattered legions are pretty much screwed as a result. Our last campaign game was a bloodbath and despite how it was going early game Hixson and Panascope eked out a 1 point lead from a triatary objective. I love close games and I haven't really played a blow out quite yet.

I've been working in some ruins terrain lately, and it seems like some of the pieces could be modded to make a workable (albeit generic stone and not sci-fi grimdark spaceship specific) ZM setup. The half-way height (up to the gap where the floor gets inserted) on the 2-stories ruins below is about 2.25" or 2.5". Looks like I have some experimenting to do.

I was gonna say pretty much every spaceship had it's own giant cathedral anyway so masonry wouldn't really be out of place, but then again that wasn't really true at the time of the heresy, was it?

I converted up a bunch of combi-meltas using the bolter-combi stuff from the Calth set and gave one terminator a chain fist. Shitcam activate! I was thinking of five more with dual lightning claws, but they can't sweeping advance at all unlike the Tartaros. It doesn't feel all that viable, and needs a dedicated Assault transport.

He'll build a space-wall and make the xenos pay for its construction. So book 6 is indeed out. There's also a bunch of new no-saving bundles (lol) Avoid the Book 6 + Crusade Army List bundle though, that stuff is getting updated this year. And sadly... I guess we can't expect any models for the Contemptor Cortus?

Was there any sort of ETA for the new legion army list book or is it just "later this year"? If that's the case I think I'll just pick up Book VI now and get a big bits/mans order in later with the new red book tossed in.DJ Dizzy posted:If you dont go AP2 weapons on terminators, you are at risking of getting absolutely murdered by terminators that have some AP2 weapons. Hencoe posted:Why wouldnt you be able to do it with regular artificer armor command squads? You can, but terminator armor would include an invulnerable save. You could take power weapons and combat shields for the same price as the terminator armor upgrade so really all you'd get out of the deal would be a combi-bolter and one less attack. Well, and a 5++ at range instead of a 6++ if that matters. I'd probably go for the artificer armor squad, I was just thinking out loud through text. Plus, tartaros armor looks cool and more customized versions of it would also be cool.

Take 3 on my Emperor's Children trial guy: The ostentatious metal sculpted shoulders are definitely the right direction. (I want to put them after they've definitively turned traitor.) And it looks like I should blend my re-applied highlights a bit better, but overall I'm very comfortable with this!

The WIP rules have been posted for this guy: WS: 4 - BS: 5 - S:10 - AV: 14/13/12 - I: 3 - A: 2 - HP: 7 Magna-Lascannons are S10 AP1, 72" range, Ordnance 2, Large Blast. And it has two of them. Twinlinked. So not only hitting on 2's but rerolling those 1's as well. Those stubbers are actually straight up Autocannons and the pod on the top is an Ironstorm Misslepod with ordnace rather than barrage.

On terminatorchat, what's the best to go with Sons of Horus? AP2 is great but axes and fists mean they lose the Merciless Fighters bonus, which they'd normally be getting thanks to Extremely Bulky. I guess power or chainfists would still be best on the Sarge for S8 in challenges, but what about the regular mans? E: head and jaw on that Knight look orky as hell.
