Apple Pie Hubbub posted:Christie and Obama looked chummy immediately after Hurricane Sandy and immediately before the 2012 election, and conservatives have never forgiven Christie for it. I agree with everyone who's said wingnuts rejecting Christie over the one decent thing he's done for his state is insane, but I would think the main reason he can't gain traction is he's got the same act as Trump -- bombastic "telling it like it is" NYC metro shitbag-- without reality show fame to back it up. I hate that he's coming out of this as "a decent guy" for not winning in a field of horrible candidates when his entire political career is petty corruption and grudge-holding -- http://theslot.jezebel.com/bye-chris-christie-you-tremendous-dick-1758263272 At least Bruce Springsteen still hates him and that makes CC so sad. nobodyssweetheart fucked around with this message at 15:51 on Feb 12, 2016 |

Christie is 400 pounds of pure poo poo in a 300 pound bag but there's always been an attempt to portray him as the middle of the road moderate that can cross party lines and enact sensible legislation (to defund everything and funnel money upwards). I think he's lost that but you can see that some people still want to pretend.

Never forget. w/r/t Christie and Obama, and I really hate bringing up DbD, but I loved that DbD storyline that showed New Jersey in the wake of Hurricane Sandy as some sort of post-apocalyptic hellhole because Obama had mismanaged FEMA funds or sent 'em to the drat Muslims or whatever. Wingnuts desperately wanted Hurricane Sandy to be Obama's Katrina times a bajillion, when all it showed was, oh yeah, government can work somewhat efficiently in the face of natural disaster when the people running it give two shits. Meanwhile, Mitt Romney held a canned food drive, sending to NJ thousands of cans of food that no one actually wanted or could use. The only response to crisis that wingnuts know is prayer chains and churchy donation drives, which have their place I guess, but it's nothing when compared with good-ol' governmental infrastructure know-how. The aftermath of Sandy proved this, but to wingnuts, it was all about Christie betraying Romney because Romney was sure to win had it not been for that meddlin' storm. D.N. Regalingualius posted:Shame he only took things out on Rubio, though. Would've been interesting to see him really taking the piss out of as many of his rivals as he could in one final roast before he bowed out. Primary polls are notoriously unreliable, but they were extremely close (he was in second with like 0.5% ahead of Kasich) coming into NH. He ended up underperforming by about 5 points, putting him in 5th behind Trump, Kasich, Cruz, and Bush. His debate performance was all over the news and really underlined the rumor that had been following him lately that he just repeats the same talking points (Christie didn't just mention it based on the debate alone). It's possible he did so poorly for other reasons, but people had been saying that he's inexperienced and doesn't know what he's talking about for a while, so it certainly didn't help dispel that.

Success is kind of a stretch. A lot of people have realized that the rich pay a disproportionately low amount of taxes compared to the middle/lower class. I think that's why Bernie has come out so high in the polls. He's actually looking pretty electable, I must say. That said I'd still vote for Hilary. I'd be less pleased about it, but at least it's not Ted Cruz or god forbid, Trump.

Nah, I'm reasonably sure this ties into the brainwashing the American electorate underwent over the second half of the 20th century, which ended with the belief that public benefits are a bad thing in and of itself, and doing without things Europeans take for granted is patriotic and virtuous. Like this post right here seems to summarize the way a lot of Americans think. Clunk Tap It posted:I'm not getting this.
