Number 1 Sexy Dad posted:IDK, man I keep getting wiped out by these loving snakes. I don't understand how to kill them and I don't understand what you mean by 'your man gets a full turn' - every time I get slurped it's death in approximately one turn for the trapped shoot man. Throw a grenade at them. Vipers let go upon taking any damage, and as has been said the soldier they held gets a full turn to shoot them in the face. Really the poison is the worst attack Vipers have. Had one situation early on where it did just enough damage to kill two of my dudes after panicking them away from my medic.

Foul Fowl posted:1) They only do 2 damage/turn, meaning you can quite happily leave them there for a turn without them dying most of the time 2) They're always out of cover when they're constricting a man so you have a 70% or better shot usually 3) Once you do hit them, your trapped man gets a full turn meaning death of snake. Thank you for the rundown. I've read that rushing them is a good thing to do because they can't tongue you up close but I've never had an encounter where trying that would be feasible due to other enemies also being around. Anyway, it seems like i've had to restart about fifteen times just because every couple of rounds I'll find out some mechanic doesn't work the way any sane person would think it would work, and my unwitting misstep usually causes an instant catastrophe cascade. This time it was snakes and full cover. Back to gatecrashing again.

In DefaultMissions.ini after other dark event spawns (faceless and chryssalids) there's something called GodSaveTheQueen that spawns three sectopods. Is this actually in the game?

I really don't mind getting grabbed. At the very least it means the soldier wont be one shotted by another enemy while grabbed, and when they're released they might be able to get a few close up shots before leaving.

Just download ReShade 1.1 + SweetFX 2.0 from https://www.reshade.me and run the setup. It'll copy the necessary files to whatever game you point it to.

Fangz posted:Alright, with the exception of Advent officers on impossible. Faceless also exist, although they're their own thing. As for Reaper against Codices, that is something you brought up. And I personally never had a problem handling them with a Gunslinger. Even if you don't get +2 damage grenades - I don't know why you would deny yourself 5 damage acid burn ticks, but okay - the Codex and its clone will at most have 7 Health between the two of them. That means a Plasma Pistol shot with special ammo kills it. If the Codex teleports too far out of range that's bad news for swords and pistols, but the Gunslinger can at least make the shot. Also, unlike Reaper kill chains, Face-Off just rolls an attack against everything in LOS and doesn't end when one attack misses.

I did the shard gun / mag-rifle ranger/specialist heavy lineup to get through the midgame, and it's surprisingly smooth. Now that my grenadiers and sharpshooters are catching up it's a good change of pace, but all rifles / shotties works perfectly fine. Supplies are precious at that point due to all the upgrades hitting about the same time, and saving 150-300 on the gauss tier is a perfectly decent strategy on Veteran. Legendary probably changes that calculus a bit. 40 Proof Listerine fucked around with this message at 23:23 on Feb 13, 2016 |

I've read that rushing them is a good thing to do because they can't tongue you up close but I've never had an encounter where trying that would be feasible due to other enemies also being around. You should probably lower the difficulty if you're having that much trouble. I'm not being a dick, I genuinely think that if it goes that catastrophically wrong whenever something unexpected happens you probably gotta dial back the disaster meter because imo XCOM is the most fun when you have no idea what that scary looking fuckin alien that just showed up can do and you freak out when you don't kill it in one turn (and then your Captain dies, and you remember them forever). Also, I lost two or three missions over the course of my Ironman Commander campaign just because sometimes your guys get critted through full cover by a flashbanged ADVENT trooper and it all goes to hell. It happens. XCOM 2 is very generous about recovering from serious losses since you can pick up new soldiers from the base which are always (I think) around the same rank as the highest ranked soldier you've had. Focus on getting weapons and armour developed, don't be afraid to pull your troops out if half the squad is dead and you can't possible complete the objective.

So Blacksites. I feel like I don't have a rhythm for this phase of the game yet. I did the story chain and took out the first blacksite. Then I skulljacked some random dude and got a lucky unlock for a Blacksite on another continent, which was neat I guess. Not really sure where to go from here though and I need another one lined up for the next time the avatar project advances. Am I just supposed to keep skull-jacking dudes until I find all the sites or is there some other method? Is it possible to go back and hit a site after it gets rebuilt or do I have to "find" it again? Pretty much I'm at the point where I'm not ready for the endgame but I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to be doing with the overworld anymore.

I swear the hacking percentage display in this game is broken or I have the worst luck of all time. Everything else in the game seems perfectly sensible. Yeah, I'll miss high percentage shots and even go on long miss streaks, but only about as much as you'd expect. Over the course of 2 playthroughs, it all evens out. But hacking? gently caress me. I almost always have around a 75-85% chance to succeed, but I end up actually succeeding maybe 25% of the time. I just count on getting the negative result now, no matter what. If a robot shows up I effectively treat it as an enemy with a passive ability to buff itself and end my specialist's turn for as long as it stays alive. Bringing 2 specialists is a hilarious joke because every single time they end up spending 2 turns each doing nothing in an unsuccessful attempt to shut down an 80% hack chance robot, forcing the rest of my squad to 4man it. I think I've seen the progress bar thing go past the halfway point maybe 4 times ever, despite hacking everything in sight. It's infuriating.

I can build the dark hall or whatever if I wanted, but it's not really clear to me what I'm supposed to be doing at the moment to stall out the game for a bit since I'm only sitting on late-midgame tech and haven't finished taking over my first continent yet. Basically I'm just asking if I'm stuck skulljacking advent officers until the end of time or if there's another way.

Apparently your panicked solders sometimes decide to throw grenades at your other soldiers. I just had a guy panic and throw a grenade at a group of 3 soldiers, which in turn panicked one of those three soldiers who threw another grenade at their feet, killing all three of them. The deaths caused another soldier to panic and run in to a fire.
